August Grab Bag

Okay, soFrench Bulldogs Denver - stealing my couch lots and lots going on this summer, and I’m writing this when I should be packing for a Las Vegas work trip.  Frenchies over there after they stole my spot on the couch.

I’m going to do another grab bag for this month, and specifically include a few things in it.  But first I need to do some drawings from July!

Winners of the Papillon Dryad and Areej Le Dore Oud Zen samples – Angela Sears Cunningham and nancysg.

July grab bag (for sure the two new Dusitas are in there) – Peggy McMillan and Tiffanie.

Comme des Garcons olfactory library winner –  nicevulady

All of you winners – just click on Drop Us a Note at the top, send me an e-mail, remind me of what you won and get me your mailing address (Figment winners tell me if you want the man or woman_. I’ll send you a quick e-mail to let you know I got your e-mail and it didn’t land in a spam filter and then get it on the way to you.

The grab bag for August will for sure include these samples, plus a bunch more – Tom Ford Mineral Oud, Zoologist Dragonfly, Naomi Goodsir nuit de Bakelite (greeeeeeeen tuberose, this thing is unique!).

How is your summer going? Mine has been just so busy, and there’s been some great releases, which is unusual for summer, and it’s made me very happy. The Dryad, the Nuit de Bakelite.  Have you found a new love this summer, or enjoying an old favorite or just waiting for something new this fall? What in the world is coming this fall? I’ve been so distracted, I have NO idea!  Fill me in!  I’ll draw for two grab bags from commenters.

  • africanavioletson says:

The Nuit de Bakelite and Mineral Oud sound intriguing. I’d love to enter.

  • lena says:

Not much is going on down here in the southern reaches of Australia (well not for me, anyway), and I’m definitely looking forward to spring!

Your pups are so gorgeous, even if they did steal your seat – cheeky little things 🙂 Thank you for the draw.

  • Jordi says:

I’ve found that I love Chergui from SL even more in the summer. Don’t know nothing about any reformulation, it smells amazing as is.

  • RoseMacaroon says:

Oh the doggies! Sooooo sweeeeeet!!! I’m such a newbie, haven’t smelled anything mentioned w/ the exception of England Passant, which I luuurve. On my mini-vacation in NOLA I tried some lovely scents at Hove — Bayou d’Amour which I got in a body oil mini and Elan d’Oranger (or d’Orange, not sure right now) which I can’t believe I didn’t purchase as its pretty flawless as a fresh orange blossom. Definitely next time!
Thank you so much for the draw!

  • SunnyDay says:

This summer I have been wearing L’Envol and Eau des Merveilles Bleu and sampling Sole di Positano and L’ombre dans L’eau.

  • audesko1 says:

Hot and humid here. Wearing Melodie De L`Amour and feel like blooming flowers. Perfect for summer. Thanks for the draw!

  • Despina Veneti says:

My summer has been filled with stress, medical check ups of me, family members and friends, lots of work, but some very interesting meetings with old friends and new acquaintances.
Thank you for the lovely giveaway!

  • This summer I’ve been exploring scents from the 90’s; found some original Le Feu D’Issey on eBay, wow!! But for the hot Buffalo weather, the new Rosa Greta (won the bottle here!!) and L’Occitane Neroli and Orchidee have been beautiful. Love the pups!! And thanks for the giveaway!

  • Rachel Lavine says:

I am in love with April Aromatics’ Calling All Angels which just smells wonderfully spicy, rich & lush to me – reminds me of the Middle East, but the reviews say honeyed, resin-y, incense – neophyte vs. pros! Just tried her Unter den Linden which went on sweet, sweet, sweet & floral (to me) and dried down into something more subtle, interesting & also delicious. And finally wore Le Labo’s Patchouli 24 & I am in love! Just don’t tell April. Thanks for the draw!

  • Nicole says:

I’ve been wearing Frederic Malle en passant. Even when it’s super hot and humid it always smells lovely. Your doggy picture makes me smile 🙂

  • Ingeborg says:

Please enter me in the draw. I have only been close to home during summer, no travel abroad, so have not smelled much new. Rain almost every afternoon now, so hoping for warmer and sunnier days before summer is over. Received some Tauer samples today and finally will have a chance to try his gardenia perfume and some other things, hope to find a candidate for my next full bottle buy.

  • Paddy Mogan says:

I’d love to be entered into the drawing ! Great looking pups!

  • Grizzlesnort says:

Please enter me in your drawing. Mineral Oud and Dragonfly, wow.

  • Patty Pong says:

I haven’t tried any of those named offerings. In please. 🙂

  • DinaC says:

Our summer here in Virginia has been hot and humid like usual. Daughter had her wisdom teeth out yesterday, so I’m playing nurse-mom and serving up soft foods. I’ve been wearing lots of my favorites like Cristalle eau Verte, Escale a Portofino, Bobbi Brown Beach, Vetiver pour Elle, Cartier Declaration and L’Artisan Premier Figuier Extreme. I’m eager to try Gabrielle, and the Naomi Goodsir green tuberose sounds great to me.

  • Gigi says:

For the last month or so, evening has had me testing the Sultan Pasha attars almost every night and I’m loving the bejeezus out of them. The hot humid (and very smoky) daytime has been filled with citrus or Vetiver. Looking forward to autumn!

  • HeidiC says:

I love the Zoologist line, and would love to try Dragonfly — I’ve also been really curious about the Bakelite. I’ve been wearing a lot of Dilettante and Parfum d’Therese this summer, but am looking forward to breaking out the leathers and more snuggly scents again. My compromise has been vintage Jolie Madame.

  • Kate E. says:

Thanks for the draw and the pic of the pups. They don’t look like they stole anything at all–must be a misunderstanding! Took a class this summer and I’m about to start school again in a few days. I’ve been wearing a lot of tuberose and orange blossom in the heat but I’m looking forward to cooler weather. Have a good trip to Vegas!

  • Kandice says:

This summer has been way too hot, and I’m ready for it to be over. It was supposed to be cooler this week, but now they are saying the heat index will be 106 for Friday. The only new thing that I’ve tried and liked this summer has been Yes I Do! by ELDO. I’ve mostly been wearing my lighter magnolia and beachy fragrances to deal with the heat. I’m looking forward to the times I can wear my heavier, richer fragrances again. Thanks for the draw. It sounds fantastic!

  • AnnJune says:

I’ve been wearing Chanel No. 5 L’Eau all summer and loving it. Pleasantly surprised there, as I was never a fan of the original, but thinking Eau Premiere might work for me going into cooler weather. Looking forward to trying the new Elizabeth and James releases and the new Chanel Gabrielle, also very excited about Cire Trudon’s new set of 5 perfumes being released this fall! Love your puppies – Thanks for the draw!

  • Kathryn says:

Thanks to the Paris Shopper I finally tracked down a bottle of Pierre Bourdon’s Sous les Magnolias. That has kept me so happy this summer that I haven’t tried anything else for awhile. Could it be that I’m finally satisfied? I probably should sniff something new to test out that unlikely idea.

  • Queen Cupcake says:

Patty , it is *their* couch now. ? My work has been the only thing going on for me this summer; I’m hoping to take some vacation time in September. Been revisiting many sample vials. Loving L’Artisan Noir Exquise just now. Good luck in Vegas!

  • Pats says:

Hiya – i have been enjoying Annick goutal Rose Pompon – a lovely sweet rose with a fruity fizziness – very pretty and totally summer suitable. I have also had a quick try of their Tenue de Soiree which i think is perhaps even nicer – powdery, musky, patchouli, with a little iris – its gorgeous – i may have to buy a whole bottle of this one! Thanks for the drawing – i have not tried any of the samples you listed above! Cheers! 🙂

  • tfk31 says:

I have been so busy this summer, – a new Greyhound came to live with my current menagerie. I haven’t tried anything really new lately. I did travel in May, and fell HARD for Amouage Bracken. I am in the same boat as Tara, but I think living in rural Nova Scotia, I am a bit more isolated from the fume world.
Thank you for the draw, and if I win, please slip one of those adorable Frenchies in my packet ?? <3

  • Tara C says:

Would love to try those samples as I am in niche perfume purgatory up here in Canada. So many interesting releases and I can’t smell any of them. 🙁 Can’t wait for winter to arrive and my trip to the US whrtr I can try and buy to wild abandon.

  • marianna says:

I would love to be entered in the draw. We are experiencing nice 75 degrees in California, such a gorgeous weather

  • nicevulady says:

Hi. its been raining this last week, and when its not raining it is so humid. Fortunately, the weather was gorgeous while the grandsons were visiting. One of the sons is moving out for the third time, so maybe this time will be permanent. That leaves only one other son currently living at home. Getting rid of cable tv and only keeping internet. Should be interesting. Your fur babies look very content. Mine just lie on the tile and pant.

  • SnarkyShiba says:

There has been so much smoke from forest fires (I’m in the pacific northwest region) that I have been going through a dry/green/decidedly unsmoky perfume phase. L’ombre Dans L’eau helps to cut through the muggy air, and I’ve been enjoying Bel Respiro and Cristalle, too, as an antidote.
Thanks for the draw! Your frenchies look so comfortable!

  • Kate C says:

Please enter me in the draw – it feels like ages since I tried anything new. This summer I have been wearing a lot of Comme Des Garcons Avignon because ever since Victoria at EauMG mentioned wearing an incense perfume in the summer I decided that sounded like a good idea. And it has been!

    • I recommend trying Avignon layered with Lady Stetson. Tania Sanchez said that LS was like Chanel #22 but without much incense . Her comment made me try the combo ,and I really like it!

  • Jennifer says:

The one thing I’m certain of is this summer is going by waaaay too fast! I’ve discovered Baiser Vole and surprised by how much I’m liking it. So much so that I swear I get whiffs of it even when I haven’t put any on!
    Thank you for the giveaway.

  • eldarwen22 says:

I would love to be entered into the drawing. Serge Lutens has gone crazy. A few of his export line isn’t gonna be export anymore. One of them is FdB and it looks like some might be discontinued. I was reading this in NST.

  • Jeanne says:

Summers in Ohio are so humid. I love Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom. Makes me feel cooler.

  • fillifelle says:

Hi Patty, the grab bag samples sound awesome, I dunno if I’m eligible for the draw since I’m located overseas. Anyway, I just came out of a gardenia/vanilla bender lately, and am currently on an almond bender. So I’ve tried Isabey’s Gardenia, La Chasse Aux Papillon, Tihota, etc… and now going back to my beloved samples of Farmacia SS Annunziata’s Cara and Vaniglia del Madagascar. That’s what I’ve been up to this summer ;D

  • Melissa K says:

Oh, I’ve been dying to try something from Zoologist!

  • Nelle says:

I would love to win the grab bag, I have not really discovered any new fragrances this summer! But I have reaquainted myself with an old fave In Love Again by YSL!

  • Suzy Q says:

Hi Patty. This grab bag features perfumes on my “to try” list, so I definitely want to be included in the draw. This summer I’ve been wearing ELDO You or Someone Like You quite often. I accidentally discovered that L’Artisan Passage d’Enfer smells amazing in the summer! Getting the most skin time is Attrape-Moi It Was a Time That Was a Time. This one is hard to pin down: sweet, salty, bread-y. It is sheer enough to wear on the hottest days. My old summer standby is Nuit de Tubereuse.
