Back next week

I am sorry I have been away but I had a bit of a personal issue, A couple of weeks ago one of my oldest friends partner decided to kill himself by shooting himself in the head in front of her. Frankly I never cared for him since I thought he treated my friend terribly; she deserved so much better. I knew he drank, but didn’t know how much. Our little group have banded together to try to be supportive to our friend who survived this. But I implore you, if you are in a relationship like this, get help. If you have a problem with depression, get help. If you have a problem with alcohol or drugs, get help. If you are in a relationship with someone who has these problems, get help. You may not think you need it, but it can help. Be kind to each other and be safe.

So many suffering families, including mine, losing family members due to addiction and depression. I am so sorry that your friend had to endure such an ordeal. I will pray that she is somehow able to find peace.

Tom, this is wise advuce, and I’ll pray for your friend. In January, one of my good friends attempted suicide .She called me as she was doing it, and thankfully I was able to get her help in time .She is still recovering, and so am I. I can only imagine what your friend is going through. But she is very lucky to have good friends like you to see her through this.

I am so very sorry to hear this, Tom– so traumatic. My mother committed suicide when I was a teen, but not in front of me; I can’t even imagine. Hugs and prayers to all.

I know first hand of victim abuse because I survived an attempt on my own life by my ex which landed me in Shock Trauma. I am lucky to be alive and my advice to people in an abusive situation is to LEAVE. I know that isn’t always easy but in the end, it’s the only alternative. Counseling doesn’t cut it when you are living with someone who wants to kill you (not their own self). If you are fortunate to escape from the situation, the counseling can come afterwards.

The only thing I am thankful for is that he didn’t try to kill her before killing himself

My brother committed suicide a few years ago, shortly before Christmas. Many say it’s a selfish act or even cowardly but we knew how much my brother loved and adored his family. He was tortured and deeply troubled even with mental health counseling. Your friend is lucky to have such wonderful support. Continue to keep a close eye on her because she, too, may need counseling somewhere along the way since the “after-shocks” run deep.

  • ScentSpirit says:

So sorry to hear of all the trauma you, your friend and everyone in your circle will be going through. You will be in my prayers.

I’m so sorry to hear of this. Help is hard to get these days. We truly have a mental health crisis in this country, not enough counselors and few resources, so we do need to reach out and help one another as well as be persistent in seeking treatment for ourselves and others. Your friend is fortunate to have you and your group. Take care of yourself, Tom.
