Fire Amber Baby by Cult of Scent

Hey Hey Posse! Fire Amber Baby! Isn’t it the best name for a fragrance EVER? One of the things I really love about wearing it is telling people the name. It always generates its own buzz of excitement.

Fire Amber Baby by Cult of Scent

Jocelyn Fullerton

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Amber, labdanum, incense, resins

With such a short note list you’d think Fire Amber Baby would be fairly straight forward. Nothing could be further from the truth. Somehow perfumer (and friend) Jocelyn has created a deep, multi faceted gem. It sparks and shines yet also manages to give shadow and depths.

Straight out of the bottle and onto skin I’m given a whirl of warm, sweet resins. My eyes roll back in my head and I’m in heaven. Seriously, if you’re still looking for your amber fragrance or you want something extra rich, thick, creamy and toasted then I give you notice that this is a winner.

Not an overpowering sweet sludge but a refined, hefty but curiously lightweight amber that will not rot your teeth but uses its sweetness as a cloud of mystical feeling warmth. As I wander the newly cool streets in Parramatta with my dogs of a morning I’m wrapped tightly in its calming peacefulness.

Later in my ride the cool, smoky incense adds a dark lustre to the ambers light. Its cooling shadow makes Fire Amber Baby even more interesting.

My imagination says wearing on cool Spring or Autumn afternoons. It’s as casual as you want yet will easily make the transition to power glam in an instant. Maybe an extra couple of spritzes?

I strongly urge you to try my mate Jocelyn’s range. An upcoming Aussie perfumer who is doing excellent work.

This sounds so cool. And i could definitely see this being my jam. I love Olympic Orchids Amber Labdanum and Hermes Ambre Narguile. I will have to sample your mate’s line for sure — Thanks for bringing this to my attn, Portia!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Rosemacaroon,
YAY! Can’t wait to hear how you like the range.
Two of my favourite ambers right there BTW! We snap.

Sounds wonderful! I checked out the site, $40 for the sample kit including free worldwide shipping (does not specify currency so I assume AUD). Would love to give them a try.

  • Maya says:

I am still working on ambers and they are growing on me. I also love the name and the perfume does make me curious. I thought the name Cult of Scent sounded familiar. It finally came back to me. Luca Turin, on his short-lived blog, loved them.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Maya,
      Yes, Luca Turin raved.
Interesting that amber has been a challenge for you. Most people gravitate to them early and get a bit bored. Maybe your late arrival will mean a long and illustrious love affair?

I need to research and learn more as well! Your description of this amber sounds amazing. And sample sets ship worldwide?
Thank you for the review Portia!

  • Brigitte says:

There is a sampler set that ships internationally and also Jocelyn custom makes fragrances for clients….very interesting.

  • Brigitte says:

Um, yes, I COULD see this being my jam 🙂 Love the name and the scent sounds amazing! My favorite amber is a homemade body oil that I make from labdanum 10 percent and vanilla beans….I use it all over my body and it serves as a great amber base to lock in whatever I may wear as my SOTD. I am not familiar with Cult of Scent so off I go to research!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Brigitte,
OOOH! This would smell fan freaking tactic over your oil.
Yep, the sampler ships worldwide. Well worth a sniff.
