As you all know by now, EBP isn’t some kind of official-speak, as in, “Hey, Joe, what’s your ETA to the next delivery stop?” It stands for emergency backup perfume, and it was coined by lovely Posse reader AnnieA, commenting on one of my posts several years ago. It’s something a lot of us probably do without even thinking about it: We apply a scent at home, then put the spray or vial or mini bottle into to-go mode and head out the door. And after a busy day or week — or in my case, sometime even months ? — we forget to take them all back out again.
Now that we (at least some of us) are at high noon in summer, it’s time to share our current sniffages. It’s been hot most everywhere here in the States, and down South here we’ve been pretty fortunate to have high but not hateful temps so far. But late last week and this coming week, the forecast is hinting at some pretty high 90s (97, 98, looking at you!). Praying my ancient A/C system can make it until October. We’ll have to remember this next winter when half the country is thigh-deep (or more) in snow.
Anyhoo, as for me and my EBP, I’ve been grooving on summer staples such as Calyx (a fruity cool popsicle!), Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom, Chanel Eau de Cologne and Le Labo’s Tubereuse 40. And for something a little different to shake things up: Chanel Les Exclusifs 1957 (an icy, crisp blast of Chanel chic that I’m finding works extremely well for me in my new retail gig).
What about you? Do take a look-see at the bottoms of your purses, backpacks, briefcases, etc., and share your emergency backup perfume: What vials, decants, bottles, etc., are rolling around in there?
And, I know, I know — I’m preaching to the choir — a word of caution: I try to keep my EBP items in a plastic zip-top baggie (a plastic-lined makeup bag would do nicely) in a feeble attempt at organization, but also mostly because I’m deathly afraid of leakage. Having once had the lining of a handbag stained this way, I’m not eager for a repeat performance. And it is nice to have your scent choices all together and see them at a glance, instead of spread out all loosey-goosey in the bottom of your purse, which is what I used to do, before said accident.
Have a great week, everyone, and stay cool (or warm, as the case may be for you folks way down South)!
MAC Naked Honey, Yosh Ginger Ciao (oil), Hermes Eau de Merveilles, and Penhaligon Ostara are my EBPs
I also like Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Nil for warm weather. I’m rotating that with Paco Rabanne Eau de Calandre and YSL Y, my favorite summer scents. Now I want to find that Jo Malone Basil and Mandarine!
I like the sound of the Hermes.X
Hey Ann,
I just had a look. There are a couple of Travel Sprays. PdN Fig Tea, Hermès Epice Marine and Madonna Truth or Dare rollerball.

At the moment in my bag are decants of: Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and Le Labo Jasmin 17. And that has worked pretty well this summer!
Yum, those are great! I do enjoy jasmine in the heat, too.
A good friend kindly gave me a bottle of Guerlain’s Mandarine basilic which is my go-to for the hottest days. I keep a travel-sized Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarine in my bag. Speaking of Jo, the drop-down menus on the website are a pain to manipulate.
Hi, Carolyn! Oh, yes — that scent is the best: so bright and refreshing! I’d forgotten about it (have a bit of it around here somewhere), so thank you for the reminder!
You are most welcome. Great post!
