Summer Daze

My darling Posse!  I was going to write this marvelous post about high/low fragrance pairings – and I will – just not right now.

Because now?  NOW?  I am in thrall to only a few things:

My PORCH!  It’s not quiiiite finished – construction is, but we’re in the midst of electrical and T, my fanTABULOUS electrician, is indulging my every electrical whim.  I currently have FOUR outlet boxes on the LR side of the porch and Floyd knows how many he will indulge me in, once I get the kitchen/DR area figured out.

OMG!

Once I get the DR/kitchen sorted * I’ll probably only go inside to … :: you know::  – M, the Cranky Contractor’s helper said ” you’re never going back inside… are you..?” – and.. well, he’s not persackly WRONG! I work out here, read out here, look at the boortz taking baths in my fountains, eat/cook out here, I rub copious amounts of body goo into my skin out here – it’s my own private paradise and I couldn’t be happier.

Why I Can’t Leave – the view from my porch

Which brings me to my current perfume and a bit of perverseness.  Every day is high 80s – 90s and it either does that West Indies downpour at 4-5 pm or it remains insanely hot.  And sunny. Which means I am completely drenched in Hawaiian Tropic SPF 50.  All day, every day. Just. In. Case.  Besides the gym and necessaries I spend all day on the porch or in the garden anyway so (insert shrug emoji).  I’m indulging in some really bizarro combinations:  HT SPF 50 + Tribute Attar (actually that’s a winning combo – the attars are designed for extreme heat, as is SPF 50 so they just link arms and jump into the volcano) or Jean Nate and SPF 50 which really are made for the season and each other so that’s an Easy W.   SPF 50 + Clinique Happy with an overlay of Cartier Baiser Vole Lys Rose – not my favorite (I feel like I just fell into a bucket of Mall Smell)  but OMG! the compliments!  I’m not persackly sure WHAT they’re smelling – but …. okaaay?  I guess.  I’m wearing it right now because I’m getting pulled off my porch and off to civilization and I want to see if it’s still a thing.

My first flush of peaches are ripening – once those are ready I’ll see if Chypres go with SPF 50.  If you hear a sonic BOOM! and the earth tilts just a beensy bit… it’ll be me, for better or for WTH?  We’ll see… (looking forward to my vintage Mitsy going head to head with Hawaiian Tropic)

So.  That’s my world right now.  What are you doing in the midst of Summer (or… if you’re Weird Like P 😉 and it’s Winter what are you wearing for the cooler months?)

  • I am a total nutjob with the outdoor kitchen/DR – my inside kitchen is persackly 11 (yes, ELEVEN!) steps from the porch.  Ask March – she’ll confirm (though it may be a few more steps for her because Teeeny little feets).
  •   So… whyyy?  Well.  Why ask why?  I … eh.. nutjob.  It’s all I got!

That is an amazing porch!!! And the garden! Such a beautiful scene. An outdoor kitchen is going to great – I often cook Indian/Pakistani food and every time wish I had an outdoor kitchen – we got a larger hood for our stove but it seems like all it does is be more efficient at pulling the smells straight into the second floor – modern construction at its best lol. No guilt over the outdoor kitchen- you’re going to love every bit of it once it’s in!

  • Lemoncake says:

Love, love, love your porch….the plants, that ceiling fan and the view make it all just perfect. I’m not so adventurous with scent pairing but you are inspiring me to give it a try. As far as SPF….I’m great with applying to my face everyday but not so good on the rest of me…need to work on that!

    • Musette says:

      SPF ALL SKIN!

:: and thank you for the smoochies re my porch!::

Also… I try those weird scent pairings at home – if they’re a disaster… well there’s the shower!!!

  • alityke says:

That porch is perfect. The garden is lush!
Outdoor cooking? Get them lovely contractors to build you a wood fired oven & a brick bbq & smoker. All cavewoman cooking

  • March says:

Hey, we talked about this, but it’s FUN to cook outside! BBQ, caveman, etc. Also in the summer you can avoid some (most?) of cooking in a hot kitchen. Your porch is absolutely lovely and I hope you enjoy every second of it this summer. <3 Oh — and I’m wearing Fracas in the heat BECAUSE I CAN. I have the body wash, creme, and perfume.

  • Eldarwen22 says:

Wore Ubar last night as a bedtime scent and can still smell it this morning. It’s a pity that it was discontinued. I am happy that I snagged a bottle when I did. We have had nothing but hot and humid weather here and can’t do anything outside. My favorite layering is the Lush Sleepy lotion and Jicky right now. Eventually I will see if Lyric and Rose Jam go together.

  • Portia says:

YAY Musette, So happy it’s all coming together so well and you’re loving it.

Wearing Ubar tonight and swimming in it.
    Portia xx

Love that porch and view, Ms A! No wonder you are living out there. We are having the same summer weather but we’re in a drought pattern, boo, the vegetable garden has to be watered every day. Lots of zucchini, eggplants and peppers.
My current favorite body goo is that cream in the big aluminum jar from Amazon that you recommended, it reminds me of Clair de Musc and smells good with everything. So I can say blame Musette!

  • cinnamon says:

I love the huge wrap-around porches I saw in New England. With hanging rockers. Your porch looks amazing. You said you can cook out there? A grill? BBQ? And your garden looks wonderful.

We’re in a break from heatwaves. Probably start back up soonish. The huge eucalyptus in the garden behind mine is creaking ominously from lack of rain…

    • Musette says:

Yes! I can grill, etc… but I want a little bit MOAR – a fitted kitchen… it’s plumbed for a sink and I’ll have a cute SMEG-type fridge… ( stopping at that since… ain’t nobody need a dishwasher in the porch kitchen when I have a dishwasher SEVEN steps away). The cooking part is what I need to sort- Big Green Egg? Glam-y grill? Both?

  • Maya says:

    My comment has disappeared……trying again

I really like your new porch. It was worth the wait. I’m curious – is there any way you could use this in cold weather or winter too?

  • Dina C. says:

Your porch looks amazing Musette! You work so hard in your garden it deserves to be looked at every day. We are also in that high heat + humidity + afternoon thunderstorm cycle which I dislike so very much. It’s the pits. Your HT spf and scent combos sound really fabulous. I have some HT Island Sport High Endurance spf 30 in a spray format that smells like old school HT. I need to wear it next time I go out.

    • Musette says:

      Thanks, Dina!

::being MOM! for a minute here::

You’d BETTA! be wearing sunscreen EVERY time you go out!!!

      Xox… love, Mommy Musette

  • Tom says:

I miss having a porch. We had two; the front one, which was I guess the “formal” porch. Facing the street, it had some decorative uncomfortable white iron furniture. We’d sit out there to watch the July 4th and Memorial Day parades. And a side one that faced a small park that had a fountain. That one we lived on on summer evenings subsequent owners used that space to expand the dining room which I think was stupidly, but it’s not my house.

LA isn’t a porch kind of town. Too bad I say.

    • Musette says:

Inorite? For the most part it’s got perfect weather for a porch – even the rains!!!

Your EC porches sound divine !

  • Tara C says:

That porch doesn’t look screened, how is the bug situation? That’s the only thing that would keep me inside. It looks like paradise though! I love being outside.

    • Musette says:

Nope! Not screened- the ceiling fans are on high, which creates a constant breeze that bugs dislike. I also have a box fan on the floor so the porch is basically bug- free!
