Road trip o-rama

By Ann

We’re heading out for a few days to the beach, and although I’ll really miss you guys, I won’t be commenting for a while. While seaside, I’m hoping to do some fragrant exploring, but there’s not really any niche or high-end doors at our destination. But perhaps I can do some department- store sniffing.

Thinking of that long, often monotonous drive, my perfume-centric mind began wondering: What’s the perfect road-trip scent? What would work well in the car, be easy on the passengers, and very importantly, make you feel good?

Also, what would you bring along, just in case you don’t find a good souvenir scent during your trip?

For my suitcase, I’ve rounded up Guerlain’s Cologne du Parfumeur (should be a pleasant choice within the close confines of the car); my new minty fave AG Nuit Etoilee and my decant of the lusciously lemony Profumum Roma Acqua Viva from a sweet friend (both great for when the days get unbearably hot); some Kai perfume oil for sultry evenings, and perhaps something else that skews beachy. A girl’s (or guy’s) gotta have choices, right?

What about you?

Fidji is a good choice for travel, imo (also good for staying at home!) I like Milena’s suggestion of Chanel no 19, too. There’s plenty of both in my scent cabinet, mostly in minis – the better to travel with!

I just came back from a six-hour one-way road trip. Like other commenters above, I become ansxious when separated from my collection so I usually bring several decants with me – this time Tocca’s Bianca (lemon, rose, and musk, wonderful for summer), i profumo’s Magnolia Dolce, and Tocca Colette – all were used at least once during my 3 1/2 day trip!

In summer, I usually travel with a few light scents, like a small bottle of Osmanthe Yunnan (which is light and summery and makes everyone smile–if they get close enough to smell it on me!), a bit of Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Vert perhaps, a tiny bottle of Cristalle EDT just in case I want to feel pulled together at some point, and often Iris Poudre for evenings (or cooler days). But now you’ve made me curious about Profumum Roma Acqua Viva!

    Have a great vacation!

My favorite travel scent is Ormonde Jayne Woman – perfect for just about any occasion or location. I’ll usually toss a couple of sample vials of something into my bag, though, just for variety (it’s difficult for me to limit myself to a single scent – it’s not that I’ll wear all of them, I just don’t like to be without choices).

Don’t forget the sunscreen, and have a fun time at the beach!

Have a great time at the beach, Ann! If I go to the beach when I am back visiting in the US I usually wear Sand and Sable or BB Beach as they just fit so perfectly with the East Coast coastline.
We are on holiday in a couple of weeks to Center Parcs (www.centerparcs.com) for a cycling and swimming holiday so I need something that can cope with the Eaux Chlorine and Sweat. (Maybe Eau de Merveilles? I’ve yet to find a situation where it doesnt work.)Not sure yet what to bring but will at least have some Chaos with me and Shalimar for dinner with my hubby.

When I travel, I’m always in a panic and it’s not about what to wear. It’s about the perfume. I always have hated the idea of planning on which full bottles and decants to take. The whole idea of not having access to my full collection on hand. I usually take a large decant of my Cuir de Russie and any other perfume is up for grabs. Noone that I know understands my perfume interest and most certainly doesn’t understand my panic of planning what perfume(s) to wear ahead of time.

    Hi Ann,

I hope you enjoy your time at the beach!

My travel perfume is Chanel 19 – it is elegant, it makes me feel good and does not bother the other people. When I go on vacation, I usually take decants with me, as I like to have choice. This year ( leaving next Monday), besides Chanel 19, I am taking MdO Tubereuse, SL Tubereuse Criminelle, TF Black Violet, Caron Accord 119 and Le Temp D’Une Fete. Last year I did not have a true summer vacation, so I am really looking forward to this trip.

      where are you going?

OMG. I have been there, minus the incontinence. BUT it was the day I had sprayed Angel at the mall. And it was below-zero so heat was on full blast. It maes me nauseous just thinking about it again!

  • Musette says:

Have a wonderful time! I once got jammed into a Ford F-150 with El O, my incontinent pop AND 2 giant Rottweilers. I was in the back seat. With the Rottweilers. Have you ever been in the back of an F-150 ? In early Spring (so no open windows). Two Hour Tour. WHen we stopped for gas I frantically searched my purse for my little hit of Brillante! GOOOOAL!!! I must’ve sprayed that thing 4 times in the ensuing hour of travel.

Hope your trip is less…fragrant !! LOL!

Ooo, Ann, Have a great time at the beach!

I have been using Eau d’Hadrian as a travel scent in the hotter months. It’s clean and citrusy and not too heavy. I have been taking along a Guerlain for the destination, usually Mitsouko since it can comfort me.
