Jar Ferme tes Yeux

Now, I have posted about this before, but that was more about the whole experience than a particular scent. I liked JAR, and in particular liked JAR Ferme tes Yeux. So much that I finally decided to pop for a sample from Surrender to Chance to see if it was what I remembered.

JAR lists no notes, but I do smell civet and incredibly indolic florals like lily with a touch of rot and a touch of spice as if the bouquet had been left around more than a few days too long. It’s also not a shy thing in the concentration: I can’t say that it’s a sillage monster since I haven’t worn it out of the house yet, and might not, especially in the summer heat. While it is very strong, it’s velvety smooth. My Scent Twin had the best take on it- describing it as if CB I Hate Perfume Musk and MKK got together and bred. I’ll add that the kid went to finishing school. I would think of it as a challenging scent. I would think twice about wearing it to a PTA meeting or a Confessional. Of course if you wanted to play a meeting like Joan Crawford facing down the Pepsi board (link NSFW) then this might just be for you. This kitty not only has claws, it has fangs.

Of course there’s the question of price. I’m not sure how much this one goes for- I’m sure it’s north of $500 for 30ML. I’m going to shock you by saying I think it’s worth every dime. Is a full bottle in my future? Likely not, since even with a clear Bergdorf’s card I can’t justify it- yet… That and I think I have to go to NY to get it. But, like a Chanel Couture gown or a Bugatti Veyron, I have to say that though it might be beyond my reach it makes me absurdly happy that it’s out there.

My sample  of Jar Ferme tes Yeuxwas purchased from Surrender to Chance.

You know, The Ferme tes yeux used to be muchly hated by me, but I’ve come around! I think it’s one of the higher ones, like $500? But! The good news is, you can call your friendly JAR person at Bergdorf and they will happily ship to you! 🙂 No, don’t thank me.

A little late chiming in, but the last bottle of JAR I had experience with (albeit Bolt of Lightning), went for $875, which is a tad north of $500. Assuming you care about such things; for all I know there are Saudi princesses among who wouldn’t bat an eye.

TOTALLY O/T, but I need some advice, quickly!

Bought a 100ml bottle of Jubilation 25 in May. Had trouble spraying it last week, noticed that the sprayer tube had broken off in the bottle. Called the company I bought it from ( a small place Tom knows well!) and they sent a replacement bottle out immediately.

Problem is, the juice is noticeably lighter and doesn’t smell near as rich. It’s almost as if it’s and EDT. I know they don’t make EDTs, but even my husband said that it didn’t smell near as “heavy” when I asked him to smell the two on me. I should also mention that after an hour or so, the scents are the same……but the first hour is definitely a much lighter version, and not quite as nice. More like Femme. Certainly lovely, but nowhere near as deep and rich.

It’s a brand new tester bottle….do you think Amouage lightens up their testers? Could they have reformualted it? Or do you think my bottle is just older, and this one will age to a richer scent?

What would YOU do, keep the old one or the new one? I have to hold the bottle upside down to get the perfume out of the old one, and it leaks. I am also worried that at some point I won’t be able to get any out at all.

Help a sista out here, please!

I’ve had issues with the spray pump getting clogged. Clogged spray pumps just take warm water and a needle to get working right. It sounds like the spray pump wasn’t put together right from the get go. It could be that the Amouage testers are a little lighter than a regular bottle. I would contact the seller to ask because it could have been improperly stored.

      • tammy says:

Definitely not clogged. You can see the tube floating around loose in the bottle! It’s broken off about an eighth of an inch down.

    • Tom says:

I’d call them and tell them about it.

It could be that it was reformulated or it could be that the older bottle just aged in. Did they want you to ship one back?

I have a hard enough time trying to justify spending $265 to $300 for a 1.7 oz of an Amouage (can only maybe afford 1 bottle every 2 or 3 years). But $500 for 30ML is way more than I am willing to spend on any perfume.

This is Joan Crawford Week over at the Posse! She was so Scary Cool, wasn’t she?

I could definitely see wearing FtY and terrifying the living crap out of some poor roomful of whomever was dumb enough to play me for a fool (bwahahahaha!).

I’m gonna need that brooch, though. Okay?

    xoxo

Howdy, Tom! Thanks for sharing about this scent, as it put JAR back on my radar — I’ve always heard amazing things about this line. Although, truth be told, with its price and exclusivity, I need to forget it immediately. But, like a Chanel gown, a girl (or guy) can dream …

    • Tom says:

Yeah, I pretty much need to forget it too..

For now, anyway. But heck it’s a lot closer than that Bugatti and I won’t get it dented in the parking lot at the local Ralph’s..
