Nuxe Prodigieux Le Parfum – sunshine in a bottle

How was everyone’s holiday, if you were in the U.S. and celebrate that?  Mine was uneventful.  I wanted to garden, but with all the hailstorms, put it off until this week. So I caught up on a lot of stuff, knitted, read, it was lovely.  I made a Pot au Feu for my sons on Sunday. That was fun!  I haven’t made a big French dish for a while. I’m inspired to go back and make another Beef Bourguignon again.

There are a lot of beach perfumes out there or some.  My favorites are the CB ones, At the Beach and Mr. Hulot’s Holiday. I typically don’t like the all coconut/vanilla ones overly much, like the Estee Lauder one or Bobbi Brown Beach. They are fine, but I just won’t wear them. I’ll go put on suntan lotion instead.

Nuxe had so many requests for the smell they had in their Huile Prodigieuse that they finall made it into a perfume, Nuxe Prodigieux Le Parfum.  Notes of orange blossom, bergamot, tangerine, rose, gardenia, magnolia, vanilla and coconut milk.  Okay, all the usual beach perfume subjects are present and accounted for. I really do love the sell of their Huile, and I was hoping this would be close.  Now I’m sitting here going by memory because I don’t have  nay of their Huile to compare it to!  Probably better, though, I can just evaluate it on its own.

At first I was horrified. It went on with that “Tampax-fresh” smell that sends me with a sick headache to my bed.  Blessedly that quickly subsides, and it is just lovely oil-drenched skin warmed by sunshine and some white florals.  Okay, that end part never happens, but imagine you tucked a magnolio or gardenia blossom behind your ear. It’s really lovely. The longer it’s on, the softer and more like what I remember of Huile it gets.

If you are a fan of beachy white floral vanilla coconut scents, but prefer the to not be a complete dead ringer for your Coppertone and a little more sophisticated beach, try the Nuxe Prodigieux Le parfum.

I’ll give away 5 samples in a drawing to commenters.  So hate beach scents, love them, never tried them? If you like them, what’s your favorite?

  • Jennifer Smith says:

My faves are BB Beach, EL Azuree Soilel and BBW DCed Ile de Tahiti.

    • Jennifer Smith says:

Oh and Jil Sanders Sun Delight and BBW Exotic Coconut and Coconut Lime Verbena.

  • katrin says:

I would love to try some beach scents. The only one I have come across of those mentioned above is Bronze Goddess.

  • Kandice says:

I haven’t really tried many beach scents so I’m still undecided on how I feel about them. However, I’ve been wanting to try the Nuxe for awhile so thank you for the opportunity 🙂

  • VanessaBL says:

I like the idea of them a lot, but I never tried one that really made me one to buy it. But I haven’t tried many either… Just. Bronze Goddess, and I think I smelled the Bobbi Brown one, but not on my skin.

  • Marsi says:

I love the smell of the Nuxe. My favorite beachy scent is Bronze Goddess, which I find scrumptious.

  • Tiara says:

I used to love beachy scents but have found myself leaning toward other things these past few years. CB I Hate Perfume At the Beach 1966 was love at first sniff but can’t wear it (allergies). Creed Virgin Island Water on a steamy hot night still hits the right note. Also love Cote d’Amour and Weekend à Deauville.

  • imapirate007 says:

My favorite right now is the Olivine Amongst the Waves, the oil version, with coconut and tropical flowers. Also something that I thought I’d hate but love is the Irene Neuwirth for Barney’s scent which I get jasmine & salt, and I can’t get enough salt. Very beachy. To me it’s a cross between Margiella Beach Walk and Germaine Monteil L’eau de Monteil- if anyone remembers that. I’m always on the lookout for something salty like Sel Marin and coconut-y. The Opus Oils Island Girl collection that was mentioned sounds interesting too.

  • poodle says:

I like the floral beach scents a lot. I don’t really have a favorite one. It depends on my mood I guess.

  • Audrey says:

Not overly excited for those scents, Halle Berry,s first scent is as beachy as I have,

  • Sherri says:

Love be achy scents…Suzanne Lang vanilla coconut, Monyette Paris, Sarah Horowitz Perfect Coconut Milk, Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete (am I crazy or does the new one seemed to have more white floral in it than the previous release with the carnation?) Basically anything involving gardenia or tiara, I love!

  • I haven’t tried the Nuxe oil but it sounds nice. I like some tropical/beachy scents. Favorites are Guerlain Mahora and Lush Sikkim Girls. I like Kai and Bronze Goddess as well. I haven’t tried Manoumalia but I’ve been meaning to. For a more literal “beach” scent, I have TokyoMilk Marine Sel. It’s kind of an odd little thing, but it has a pretty realistic sea salt note that I like. And cheap to boot.

  • AnnieA says:

Definitely becoming a dry oil fan, and am about to try out a bottle of Kai. I too like Fleurs de Sel as a cool-yet-sunny beach scent.

  • Gwenyth says:

I’m happy to see my favorite summer scents mentioned by so many. Sun and beachy scents are mentioned often as favored scents of summer.
I live far inland from any ocean, and I have been blessed/cursed with very fair English/Scottish skin. I Do.Not.Tan. No matter how much time I spent in the sun as a carefree teenager, I managed only to acquire some really terrible sunburns. In my more cautious middle years I have been careful to use sunscreen religiously (face, neck, chest, arms and hands!)

However, I love the smell of beaches and summer fun. My favorites are Bobbi Brown Beach, EL Bronze Goddess, Lily Pulitzer Beachy and now, my new love, Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum.

This new Nasomatto does sound lovely. I’d love to have the opportunity to sniff it. 😀

  • Hi Patty! I am at the beach now, in fact (in NC) and the weather is lovely. I have two favorite beach scents (no coconut notes for me, thank you) : Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete (limited edition, discontinued, but still available on the interwebs for now….) and Hermes Eau des Merveilles – especially in the parfum.

I should thank Denyse for her Grain de Musc review of the Terracotta Voile d’Ete a few years back for prompting me to try it, as I’ve worn it regularly, mostly in summer, for four years now. Denyse explains how Mathilde Laurent was asked to develop the Terracotta scent as a “modern” version of the discontinued Quand Vient l’Ete (“When Summer Comes”). That was later relaunched (limited too? Anyone know?) and I should find it and compare. I heard it is stronger on the carnation note?

Also- thanks for the tip about the Wensleydale Cheese with cranberries (I forget where you posted about it?) We spotted it in the grocery store & bought it Sunday night. Yumm. Now I understand how cheese can be a dessert course 🙂

    • Jennifer Smith says:

As a child my mom would occasionally buy chocolate havarti cheese ( may have had nuts too) it was wonderful. I highly recommend it if you can find it in your area.

  • Mary K says:

I love beach scents; they are just so summer-y. My favorites include Confetto, Omnia Platino, Mr. Hulot’s Holiday and Lily Pulitzer Beachy. Would love to sniff Prodigieux.

  • Lauren says:

I have a lot of favorites in this category, and am not embarrassed to say so. Kai, Monyette Paris, Sage Moonstone, Ava Luxe Black Coconut (dc’d), Honore des Pres Love Coco, Profumi del Forte Vittoria Appuana, and maybe best of all, PG Bois Naufrage. Looking forward to forking over the dough for a sample set of Opus Oils Island Girl collection – anyone tried these? I generally prefer oils, if available, for beachy scents because they are just so deep and rich, and stick with you through the heat and the sweat. I would LOVE to try the Nuxe Prodigieux.

  • Katherine says:

I like EL Bronze Goddess, but I love EL Azuree Soliel. I can tell a difference. Somehow I get a weird Metallic twang with BG. It’s strange. I would love to try Guerlains Terracota. I like Michael Kors on anyone else but myself. I do think it smells like a tropical paradise.

  • jirish says:

I have and wear Bronze Goddess, but I prefer the colder beach scents – Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel, which smells like a winter beach to me, and the wonderful Sel de Vetiver.

  • Bastet says:

I love EL Bronze Goddess, and L Lolita Lempika is also a summer favorite (and somehow smells beachy to me). Would love to try this one.

  • Melissa (aka fleamarketjunkie) says:

I would love to try this, beach scents are a favorite! I love EL Bronze Goddess, it has a great balance of coconut and white florals to my nose. Thanks for the draw!

  • Dina C. says:

I like the jasminey beach scents. Bobbi Brown Beach is a favorite. Another is Pacifica California Jasmine, which smells like realistic jasmine blooming… not too indolic either, which is good for me. I’ve got Terracotta Voile d’ete, too but that’s a carnation scent to my nose, not jasmine. I don’t care for the coconut-y ones. Kai oil is a great gardenia that suits the beach. And last summer I loved wearing Hermes Ambre des Merveilles at the beach. It had just the right combo of salt, amber, ambergris & driftwood. I’ve never tried the CB ones, nor the Nuxe ones. They sound good.

  • I am not a beach person to say the least but I am a carnation person and so I love Guerlain’s Terracotta Voile d’Ete, which seams to have that sunshiny-beach glow without smelling like tanning oil.

  • solanace says:

Like many people, I absolutely adore the smell of Coppertone. As beachy perfumes go, I enjoy Bronze Goddess especially during winter, as a beach fantasy scent.

  • Jaime says:

The Beach Scent should be a perfume genre in itself. This year, i have really gravitated towards these kinds of scents & currently am trying Sensuous Nude and Yves Rocher’s monoi oil.
This one you’ve described sounds really wonderful!

  • Nemo says:

I don’t have much experience with beach scents, though I will say I am somewhat hesitant about coconut in my perfume (I love it in food, though!). We also don’t have many beaches around here…not the kinds with coconuts anyway 🙂

  • Caroline says:

Would love to try this one. Though not strictly beachy, I’m currently enjoying Guerlain’s Terracotta.

  • TheLunarWhale says:

Sunscreeny beach scents like EL Bronze Goddess are a bit much for me, but I love subtler tropical florals. I’d love to try the Nuxe.

  • nebbe says:

I enjoy beach scents – EL Bronze Goddess, and I loop kai into this category because it pairs well with a bikini and big shades.
Not that I have worn a bikini in public in years, ha!

  • Liz K says:

I love the Nuxe oil and have been very curious about the perfume. I don’t usually like other beachy perfumes but don’t think I have smelled Bronze Goddess and have been pondering a trip to Nordstrom to rectify that before it is gone again. Thanks for the draw. I would love to try the Nuxe perfume!

  • bevfred says:

I’ve always wanted to try Nuxe products and love the smell of the oil. I also really need some summer scents. My stash is low!

  • Ellen says:

I don’t know if I like beach scents, but I don’t like the artificial coconutty smell in perfume. It reminds me of fabric/air freshener, which I understand that some people like, but not me.

  • Becky says:

I love a good beach scent. Bronze Goddess was one of my first perfume purchases about a year ago. :). I like that they don’t interfere much with my sunscreen when I’m driven out of doors and have to put on the ole SPF 90 (redheads weren’t meant for this kind of weather!). I’ve been wanting to try this one.

  • edpgypsy says:

Another beach scent fan here! One of my favorite scent categories, actually. I like BB Beach, At the Beach and also just recently discovered Smell Bent’s St Tropez Dispenser. The Nuxe sounds incredible! Thanks for the draw!

  • Cybele says:

My favorite beach scents are Nuxe oil and Clarins aftersun lotion for face. In terms fragrances Manoumalia, Vanille Galante, and PCTG.

  • Maggiecat says:

I tend to like beach scents more in theory than in practice. One of the EL flankers was ok….and a vanilla/plumeria scent I picked up in Hawaii was almost perfect!

  • Jolissa says:

I love Beach scents as well! I am a coconut addict and try every scent I can get my hands on that is beachy. My favorite right now is the Profumi del Forte Vittorio Apuana but I have tried many others as well.

  • carrie K says:

Love beach scents! Bobbi Brown Beach, Bond No 9 Fire Island, Monyette Paris and so many more. Also, I love the Nuxe oil scent. Didn’t know they made a perfume. Thanks!

  • Jennie says:

Meh, beach scents don’t usually interest me because I can get a coconut oil fix by just using sunscreen.
I do, however, love the Nuxe Huile, having just recently discovered and acquired it. Lovely dry oil on the skin with a correspondingly lovely lux-warm smell. It would be interesting to try the actual perfume,.

  • Janet in California says:

I do love beach scents! I am wearing EL Bronze Goddess body oil right now. Fire Island, At the beach, and BG are my favorites right now. But the new Parfums de Nicolaï Musc Monoï sounds like a blind buy right now!
