Te Delle Isole by Dominique Dubrana for La Via del Profumo

Hey there Perfume Posse, Te Delle Isole means Tea Of The Isles. La Via del Profumo is one of my favourite independent perfume houses. Perfumer Dominique Dubrana has chosen naturals as his medium. Though he is a self taught perfumer his hand and nose are deft. None of the La Via del Profumo scents are shy or retiring. Every one I’ve tried speaks to me through scent of strong character, fearlessness and independence. No one will mistake you for one of the sheep if you have the steel within to wear La Via del Profumo easily and casually. Many of the range make my imagination run wild and I really like the rides.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Cinnamon, cloves, grapefruit, tea

Let’s talk about cloves! In Te Delle Isole we have a fabulous creation featuring as the star player, clove. Do you find it’s rare to have Clove in dominance? It is to my knowledge anyway, and here it has been made the solitaire with other notes playing background and buoyancy.

The first 30 minutes is quite big, very spicy and smells like I remember those clove cigarettes used to smell. Do they still make them? Remember you would open the pack and this unbelievably yummy smell would float out. Then when you went to light up there was sugar coating on the filter so there would be an explosion of sweetness mixed with the tastes of clove, tobacco and smoke. We bloody loved those ciggies in the day.

Then Te Delle Isole calms considerably, floating around me in soft clove harmonics. Though I can’t really smell tea as such I do get the familiar dry ache in my throat that the smell of tea gives me. Yeah, I know how weird that sounds but that’s how my body reacts when I’m making, smelling or about to drink tea.

After about 4-5 hours I’m left with the softest, merest whiff of spicy skin. MMMMM and spritz again.

La Via del Profumo has €38/15.5ml
Surrender To Chance has a range of La Via del Profumo samples with Te Delle Isole starting at $7/ml

In Indonesia, clove cigarettes or kretek is part of life. So yes, we still have them around. Clove cigarettes remind me of my late father. His morning ritual was a clove cigarette and a mug of strong and sweet black coffee.

  • MrsDalloway says:

I love Milano Caffè by Via del Profumo – the coffee and cocoa in the opening is just the best. Must revisit my sample of Te delle Isole.

    • Rachel W says:

Love Milano Caffe! Also Venezia Giardini Secreti, a beautiful jasmine scent. I want to try Te delle Isole now.

  • Doreen says:

I loved clove cigarettes! And I do love cloves. I remember taking them out to the park and smoking them, so chic, while I wrote memoirs at the ripe old age of 20 when barely anything had happened yet…

  • HeidiC says:

Ohhhhhhh…clove cigarettes. Used to smoke those with my friends in the back of the theater every Saturday night while Rocky Horror Picture Show played…I might have to get a sample just for the nostalgia!

Papillon’s Salome is my favorite thing ever. E.VER. And I love the weirdness of Aftelier’s Cepes et Tuberose — that earthy mushroom note balances out the BWF in a way that just works. I’m waiting on a Zoologist sampler, because I’ve only tried Panda, but am dying to try Bat and Civet. But I haven’t tried La Via del Profumo — clearly, I need to!

    • Portia says:

      Hey there HeidiC,
YAY!! We were the NAUGHTIEST!! Smoking! He He he. I loved smoking in cinemas.
Aftelier’s Cepes et Tuberose is gorgeous. YUM

I used to carry a pack of those clove cigarettes in my purse in high school just to smell them!! You really took me back to the 80’s there 🙂

  • Tara says:

Portia, I haven’t tried anything by La Via del Profumo but I will now you’ve said they are your favourite independent perfume house.
I love Papillon and Aftelier Perfumes most but have been so impressed by April Aromatics and Zoologist. I need to get know DSH Perfumes this spring.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Tara,
One of my faves. There are about 10 hovering up the top and I love them all.
Aftelier, Olympic, Papillon, NVC, Parfum d’Empire, ELdO and more
