Happy Memorial Day and a belly full of fun

memorial holiday 2
Happy Monday, everyone, and if you’re in the U.S., wishing a happy Memorial Day to you! Take a moment today, if you will, to remember service members around the world, past and present. In the U.S., Memorial Day is the unofficial kick-off to summer, even if the calendar says otherwise, so for some of us, it’s into summer we go!

Since it’s a holiday here and many folks are in and out, traveling, etc., especially with all the high school and college graduations, let’s keep this short.

What are your plans for today, and what fragrance will you be wearing? What are your favorite summer holiday / cookout scents, whether out to Aunt Betty’s backyard barbecue, to that picnic in the park, to a friend’s pool party? Or around the firepit or fireplace, for those of you who may be chilling in the Southern Hemisphere?

I’ll be heading to the beach for a few days this week with the fam, and am taking old favorites such as Aerin Lauder’s Mediterranean Honeysuckle and Calyx for refreshment, and a little dab o’ Carnal Flower, in the hopes that the hubs and I get to have a fancy dinner out. And also something a little comforting, as it looks like we might have a day of rain.

Speaking of fancy (and promise you guys won’t laugh me right off the Posse!), I’m planning on taking a belly-dancing class next week. Yes, you read that right! And even though it won’t be pretty to look at (no washboard abs here), it’ll be a darn sight prettier than it would have been six months ago. I’ve lost some weight and with it, am trying lots of new things that I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing at this time last year. So bring on the castanets!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Memorial Day weekend!!

Hooray for trying new things! I’m too much of an introvert to try dancing but I remember my mom taking dance lessons with her best friend when I was a kid and I always thought they must have had a blast!

  • Portia says:

    Good on you Ann,
Enjoy your belly dancing classes and congratulations on losing some excess.

Thanks, dear! It’s not been an easy road but i’m feeling better overall, fewer pains, and that’s so important. Hope you guys are doing well!

  • Lisa D says:

Not enough dancing and singing in life – go sway those hips, Ann!

    • Ann says:

Amen, Lisa! Thanks, and I will go sway up a storm and hope I don’t jiggle something loose, ha!!

My daughter did belly dancing for years as part of a group. She loved it, it was fun and a great workout! It’s been pretty dreary here weather-wise, glad we didn’t go to the beach, lol. I’ve been helping my kid move. Not super-fun but rewarding — for both of us 🙂

    • Ann says:

Howdy, dear! I do remember you posting a pic or two of your daughter doing it — how fun! And so nice that you’re helping move; it’s a good bonding experience for you both. Hugs to you …

Not much going on this weekend for me other than catching up on all the things, but I do love that you are getting into belly dance! My dance background in its entirety is comprised of various forms of belly dance, since my late 20s (as my parents were very big on religious fanaticism, penury, and child neglect which, as you might imagine, precluded any exploration of arts and pursuits that might qualify as somehow enriching), which does mean that in any class I am guaranteed to stick out as easily the least accomplished dancer, but I lovercooked it SOOOOOOOO MUUUUUCH, I do it anyway.
I’m really loving Ayala Moriel’s Lost Lagoon for hotter weather, her Hanami for a bit cooler, along with Taurus from Strange Invisible Perfume, their Magazine Street, and Providence Perfume Company’s Rose Boheme (verdant patchouli-rose, really rich and pretty). SIP’S Pisces for a dressier hot-weather scent, as well as Velvet and Sweetpea’s Jewelry of Heaven. Sexy jasmine iterations for hot weather — fun times ?

    • Ann says:

Rosemacaroon, how cool that you’ve been belly dancing for a long time! I’m a dyed-in-the-wool klutz, but am at the age where i don’t care — I’ll be in the back having a good time, regardless! And love your jasmine wave for the heat!

You should have an absolute blast belly dancing. I have never had so much fun in my life and with the music you cant help but move. And to tell you the truth…..belly dancing always looks better when someone with a belly and hips does it. I am rather straight in the body and I always think the more voluptous women look the best dancing. And what a work out it can be.

    • Ann says:

Hi! So glad you have done belly dancing and enjoyed it!! I’m a classic pear, so not all that voluptuous, but I’ll just go and have a ball. Thanks!
