You Say It’s Your Birthday

Well, it was, on the 20th. I turned 27 years old, for the 30th time. I did get a sample of something that I should be reviewing, but I found myself indulging in scents that I already have: the heavy Lutens and all that jazz. I like to tell myself that the juxtaposition of my preppy, lacoste and topsiders wearing exterior and those fresh-from-the-souk things from Uncle Serge is wildly interesting. Perhaps only to me..

My actual birthday was if course a work week; my friends will be taking me out to a local favorite spot next Friday. These are people who I met because of local Beverly Hills politics; while we aren’t active much anymore we are as my friend Terre says “the great eight” and get together as often as we can.

So for my birthday dinner I made myself sautéed salmon with endive, roasted asparagus and roasted fingerling potatoes with rosemary, sage and garlic. I bought frozen lava cake from TJ’s but was way too full to consume. Maybe tonight..

As for scent, since my Barney’s card was at zero balance I finally fell and got a bottle of Musc Ravageur. I’d been o the fence about it for literally years, but I was given a sample at the Malle store and decided that yes, it does work on me well, yes, I had not bought a bottle of anything in this decade and yes, I do deserve it. It’s even positive credit info. So there.

There is a Malle event at their store on Saturday, so next week I shall report on that. In the mean time, I am needing lava cake..

Happy Birthday Tom from central MA! I applaud your culinary skills and taste in fragrance : ) I had the same age birthday on the 15th, celebrating with my sons (one home from college for the summer and the other on a week’s leave from the USMC) – couldn’t ask for more.

Enjoy your Malle! I absolutely love Musc Ravageur on others but can’t wear it myself.

    • Tom says:

Central MA? I’m originally from Western MA (Northampton, to be precise)

      Happy belated birthday to you!

      • AnnJune says:

Yes, you mentioned in a past post! I’m a little further east but love to shop downtown NoHo regularly, so thought I would send a birthday wave from your home neck of the woods.

  • March says:

Musc Rav! I bought and sold my bottle and I’m sorry I did….. happy belated birthday! Let me know if those lava cakes are any good.

    • Tom says:

March- they are too good for my own good. especially when served with TJ French Vanilla ice cream..

  • Portia says:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY you handsome, suave and sophisticated man.
    LAVA CAKE!!! Yum.

  • Neva says:

Happy belated birthday Tom! Your birthday dinner sounds delicious. I admire your cooking skills. Of all the Frederic Malle’s I’ve never tried Musc Ravageur so I’d be happy if you could review it. Enjoy the evening with your friends.

  • shiva-woman says:

Oh Happy Birthday! And what a sumptuous feast! You totally deserve your Musc Ravageur.

  • Cyndi says:

Happy Birthday, Tom!!! Your meal sounds delicious, and I’m happy you’ll be celebrating with friends later on. Enjoy your new bottle of Musc Ravageur. And, yes, you do deserve it. Except for some samples, I’ve never owned a full bottle of any perfume from the Malle line. A little too pricey, but I have hopes for the future.

    • Tom says:

I only have a couple and they’re small, and from a time when I was making more money.
