Anniversary Monday: Scents for celebrating

anniversary celebration
Happy anniversary to me!! Today my wonderful DH and I are celebrating 30 years of marriage. It’s definitely hard to believe that we’ve been together 30-plus years. I do think that the older you get, the faster time seems to fly by, so that probably explains a lot.

We plan to spend the day together, just hanging out, and then going to a nice dinner tonight. We’ve talked about doing something special, like a fabulous just-us trip, but that will have to wait awhile. Perhaps a night or two at a cabin in the mountains though. My son’s senior year of high school is turning out to be extremely busy and expensive, what with ACT tutoring and testing, lots of projects, etc. And I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving him alone for more than a day or two. Maybe once he’s in college next fall.

For our anniversary dinner celebration, since we’ve FINALLY hit a cold snap here (yay!) and are expecting a chilly evening, I’m eyeing something warm and classy. Perhaps Clive Christian C for Women, Chanel Coromandel or Hermes 24 Faubourg.

I wish I could remember what scent I wore for my wedding, but that day, at least early on, was a bit of a blur as I rushed around trying to get ready. And although I dearly loved fragrance then, I wasn’t anywhere near the perfume hound that I am now. I might have worn Diorissimo as I’ve always loved that scent, but more likely it was Chanel’s Cristalle. Or likelier still, Estee Lauder’s Private Collection. Its green sophistication always made me feel special, and as a nice plus, I recall it having a nice line of body products, including soap, powder, body lotion and cream.

I do, however, remember wearing my favorite blue-red Christian Dior lipstick, carrying a bouquet of calla lilies and coral roses (several of which kept falling out — arrgh!), and my simple satin bridal gown with a bustle and trailing ribbons in lieu of a train. It was made from a Christian Dior Vogue pattern that I bought in high school and packed around with me through college and early jobs until I had it sewn before my wedding in 1988.

But getting back to fragrance. I haven’t been to a wedding in a while and none of the recent brides I know are very much into perfume (several went scentless), so what are the most popular bridal scents these days?

What about you? If you are married, what did you wear for your big day? And what do you enjoy wearing to a special celebration now (wedding, birthday, anniversary, graduation, etc.)?

    Congratulations!
We celebrated our 12th a couple weeks ago. I wore Scent of Peace because a SA ambushed me when I was at the department store that morning looking for shoes. The beautiful little bottle of Kate Spade perfume I had planned to wear had temporarily wandered off in a box of MIA stuff (like my freakin’ expensive shoes, bridesmaids gifts, and the 479,000th nude lipstick I tried before I found the perfect wedding color). Fortunately, the box reappeared after the wedding in someone’s husband’s car (how? Why?), but my husband had bought the Kate Spade specifically for my wedding scent and I’m still a little sad about not wearing it.

  • March says:

    Mitsouko, and congrats!

  • Judith H. says:

Happy Anniversary, Ann! I wore 24 Faubourg to my wedding. Now, for a celebration, perhaps Tauer Les Annees 25. I adore it.

  • Jennifer S says:

Congratulations! 32 yrs here and yes they go oh so fast. I wasn’t into perfume back then for the most part so I don’t think I wore anything? It was enough to try and put on makeup for the day as I wasn’t a makeup wearer either!

  • Queen Cupcake says:

Congratulations, Ann! I don’t remember exactly what I wore for my wedding but it was likely vintage Y or Heure Exquise.

  • Gwenyth says:

Congratulations, Ann! Anniversaries are important. Staying committed to another person is wonderful and yet not always easy. I’ve been married to DH for 40 years – we’re happy and grateful to have each other.

I’ve loved perfumes all my life, but I wasn’t always so dedicated to the details of scent as I am now. For my wedding, I think I may have worn Chanel 22 (or it may have been Halston – I was obsessed by Halston for many years)
DH has always loved my perfumes and has aided/abetted my passion for scent. He purchased a bottle of Chanel No. 5 for me shortly after we were wed. Then, what set me firmly on the path to being a Perfumista was the bottle of Chanel Coco he purchased for an anniversary gift years later. I’ve worn Coco steadily since then.

  • ScentSpirit says:

I wore Chantilly by Houbigant. I really think it smelled awful but I liked the name since my dress had chantilly lace sleeves. It was 1975.

  • Dina C. says:

Congrats and Happy Anniversary Ann! We’ll celebrate 28 years in January ’19. Our winter wedding was a formal evening one, and my best recollection is that I wore Arpege back then. Like you, I loved fragrance, but wasn’t a fragrance hobbyist yet. For fall & winter special occasions I pull out the classics like Mitsouko, No. 5, No. 19 edp, and 31 Rue Cambon. They make me feel dressed up and fancy. 😀 Have a wonderful celebration today/tonight!

  • Filomena says:

Congratulations to you and your husband! On my first wedding I wore Givenchy’s L’Interdit.
For my second I wore Azzaro for her. No more weddings or marriages for me.

  • rosarita says:

*sigh* that’s supposed to be a smile at the end, I do wish my beloved Posse could post emojis!

  • rosarita says:

Congratulations, Ann! Anniversaries are special and ours falls somewhere around Memorial day, we have been married 34 years. I’ve posted about how Coco has been part of my marriage since the beginning. Love your wedding picture with your beautiful smile and bouquet! ?

  • crikey says:

A very happy anniversary to you, and here’s to many more!

(We reached the 20 mark this spring–and I have absolutely no idea how that much time has gone past already. I’m pretty sure I wore Odeur 53, along with a victorian vintage jacket and slightly-bustled long skirt, all black satin and beads.)

  • Tara C says:

I was married in 2014 and wore Atelier Cologne Silver Iris. Congratulations on your 30th!

  • Maggiecat says:

My 9th anniversary is coming up (it took me um, a while to find the right one). I wore Diorissimo for the day

  • Rina (NOT in CAN) says:

Congrats, Ann! We hit 30 in August. I wore Coco (vintage now, I still have some). My mind cramps at the thought of 30+ years with someone but we must be doing something right, LOL. Have a fabulous night!

  • hczerwiec says:

Happy love day, Ann! I can’t remember what scent I wore for my wedding either — Coco? But when I feel like celebrating now, I usually wear Carnal Flower or Mitsouko. Though sometimes, the scent depends on the outfit — once, I paired a woman’s tux with Tabac Blond because it was sooooo Marlene Dietrich! I’d be curious to know what people are wearing now to weddings.

  • Portia says:

WONDERFUL!! 30 years! You are an inspiration Ann.
