SOTD 9.10.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 9.10.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Last night I wore enormous amounts of Liberté by Cacharel to bed. This morning I have awoken to a soft sugared citrus musk. So pretty. nice way to greet the day.
Added DIOR La Colle Noire over the top.

  • Cassieflower says:

    A. Delacourte Lilylang. Defo a travel bottle for my Merry Christmas to Me list.

    • Portia says:

      Cassieflower,
I bought all the sample sets but when they arrived I felt a curious ennui and haven’t wanted to try any of them. How weird is that?
      Portia xx

      • Cassieflower says:

Whaaat? Get in there. I was less than excited by the vanillas but like a few of the OBs and of course the Lilylang. The Helicriss is interesting too. Smallie was very taken with Florentina this morning.

  • Neva says:

Cuir Cuba Intense by PdN, an interesting leather infused with licorice and cool wet tobacco. When I overspray, it is suffocating but the right dose makes it very special. Just right for a colder rainy day.

  • Portia says:

Cologne du Coq by Guerlain. Super zingy open, lightly herbal heart. Very refreshing.
    Portia xx

  • Cassieflower says:

S Delacourte Ozkan. Nice touch of leather and slightly balsamic. Yep, it’s good.

  • Neva says:

I remember at the age of 15 asking my English teacher in high school which perfume she was wearing because she always smelled and dressed very nice. She smiled and answered: Vu by Ted Lapidus. She couldn’t know that I remembered it for so many years and finally bought it a few years ago on ebay – a small 20 ml bottle of a great 80-ies chypre. I’m wearing it the last two days.

  • Cassieflower says:

Sweet Oriental Dream. Reaching for the heavy-hitters this week.

  • Portia says:

Gucci Bloom Acqua di Fiori. Salty white flowers and a bunch of extras. PERFECT spring spritzing.

    • Ariel says:

I’m so often jealous of your perfume choices because your season is opposite of mine- I’ve got Agonist’s White Lie on, and it’s just a little too far into autumn for that raspberry and lemon…but heck. Everything feels topsy-turvy anyway!

  • Cassieflower says:

Dior Addict from my fifteen year old bottle. There’s very little used due to its rocket fuel strength. Only three squirts at a time.

  • Portia says:

Trivia Q&A done for the night. Lavish spritzing of Noel au Balcon by ELdO. Pretty white floral with honeyed bells & whistles.
    Portia xx

  • Cassieflower says:

OJ Orris Noir. I’m really amping up the pepper in this today.

    • Portia says:

YUMMY! I love that some fragrances give different rides depending on the weather and our selves Cassieflower.
      How’s life?
      Portia xx

    • Neva says:

Hi Cassie, nice to see you again 🙂 Orris seems to be the right note for this season – when it’s getting colder and rainy. I have to give Orris Noir a try, the pepper sounds inviting.

  • Neva says:

A cloudy and cooler Sunday – just the right time to do some undemanding chores at the apartment: a little bit of ironing, a little bit of cooking, listening to inspirational videos AND smelling of Atelier Cologne Rendez-vous. It’s a cozy, musky, close-to-the-skin leather perfume. Why do they have to discontinue so many nice perfumes???

    • Portia says:

      Neva,
That sounds like a perfect Sunday.
Sadly the world loves NEW. Once the sales decline they DC. I have recently bought a couple of 200ml Atelier Colognes for this exact reason. If I suddenly become obsessed (and that seems to happen to the strangest things lately) I don’t want to then have to chase and chase DCd stuff.

Today we had a crew over for morning tea. It was so much fun Jin stayed. Normally it’s too rowdy for him. We all had stories and laughs, catch ups and there was so much food. I did some sandwiches and scones, people brought cakes, macrons, those delicious ricotta stuffed tubes. MMMMMM
I wore a light dusting of Guerlain Habit Rouge for them.
    Bath time.
Halfeti Leather for work this evening. NICE!
    Portia xx

    • Neva says:

      Sounds like a lovely day.
How is Halfeti Leather? I haven’t heard about it so far.

      • Portia says:

        Hey Neva,
It’s supposed to be a rose leather but for me the woods and leather are forward. It’s a comfortable wear and the bottle calls to me as well.
        Portia xx

  • Neva says:

After many years of sniffing and liking Balenciaga’s Florabotanica I finally bought it this spring. It’s such a pretty scent for absolutely all occasions – flowery, green, slightly powdery – just beautiful.

  • lee says:

Tom Ford’s Metallique after a long day lifting and relaying pavers outdoors. Not sure about this one- I loved the heliotropey opening but 30 minutes in and I’m getting IKEA elderflower cordial and pineapple. Will see what happens next, but a bit icky at the moment

    • Portia says:

      WOW! What a ride.
Pavers are a big deal. How do they look?
      Portia xx

      • lee says:

Pretty good Portia- it’s a job I’ve had on my must do list for 2 years or more, so very satisfying to cross it off. Metallique went from cloying to a very average musky dry down within an hour. Don’t think TF frags play well on me. Any of his you’d suggest trying? xx

        • Portia says:

Lee, I don’t have a lot of the Tom Ford range, just four. They’ve always felt expensive and many of them collapse within the hour on me too. Both Patchouli Absolu and Jasmine Rouge last quite well for me and smell fantastic. Neroli Portofino and Ambre Hyacinth have appalling longevity but the beautiful top and heart have made them irresistible and I also bought them.

  • Musette says:

last dog over the hill, it seems (at least for today) but after a long day in the garden (wore Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather, which bloomed gorgeously in the sun) I’m now in Rosine’s Secrets de Rose. xoxo

    • Portia says:

      OOOOOH Musette,
I love Parfum de Rosine fragrances. It’s a pity the mens extracts left the building, they were spectacular.
      Portia xx

  • Cassieflower says:

St. Clair Casablanca. All sorts of fabulous.

  • Maya says:

FM Lys Mediterranee. This is the only lily perfume that I’ve tried that smells like a real, natural, growing lily instead of a “perfume” lily. I’ve just started exploring Frederic Malle. What took me so long? His perfumes are incredible and amazing! It shows the artistry and beauty that can be created when you give great perfumers enough money and freedom. I already seriously want three from the line.

    • Portia says:

      OOOH! Which three Maya?
I have a small Malle collection. Lipstick Rose, Musc Ravageur, Geranium Pour Monsieur. I think there might be an Eau de Magnolia too, but maybe that’s a decant.
      Portia xx

      • Maya says:

Musc Ravageur, Carnal Flower, and no one is more surprised than me – Dans Tes Bras. This one had me confused and intrigued. I read that FM said it was one of his most beautiful fragrances but you had to live with it for a while, so I did. It’s somewhat zen and somewhat sensual and like you I can’t tell you what it smells like when I’m not wearing it, but it’s 1st for fb.

    • Twitchly says:

Great line. I love that he always gave credit to each perfume’s creator. I have his Une Fleur de Cassie, by Dominic Ripon. Strange, beautiful, unforgettable.

    • lee says:

En Passant, Eau de Magnolia and good ole POAL are my 3 favourites, but I like several others and haven’t even sniffed quite a few others of his.. as you say, Maya, such artistry..

    • Ariel says:

I adore the Malle scents I have sniffed (especially Carnal Flower)- will have to check this out! So great when you find a line you love.

  • KimB says:

Rosa Nigra from Unum. Most roses go sour on me but not this one – it’s a deep woody rose that dries down to a lovely rosy incense.

  • Dina C. says:

HdP Vert Pivoine today. It’s not a fall scent, but I just felt like peonies and roses this morning. Have a great weekend everyone.

    • Portia says:

Ummmmm, peonies and roses! I had no idea that’s what this smelled of. Is there a galbanum hit as well DinaC?
      Portia xx

      • Dina C. says:

According to Fragrantica, no galbanum, but it reads super green and powdery on my skin. It’s also got mimosa, ivy, gardenia, musk, sandalwood, red berries and Virginia cedar according to the profile.

    • KimB says:

Love Vert Pivoine – a rose that doesn’t go sour on my skin. And such a happy fragrance !

  • MMKinPA says:

I’m thinking Ambre Precieux for today. Nice fall weather and sideline photography at tonight’s football game!

    • Portia says:

      Hey MMKinPA,
Is that the Maître Parfumeur et Gantier? I really love it but only have a decant because there is SO MUCH amber here that I worried it may not get a look in.
I’m going to the footy tonight! YAY!
      Portia xx

      • MMKinPA says:

Yes – MPG. I wear a lot of ambers in the fall. But I have discovered that my decant isn’t aging well. So perhaps will spray some Ormonde Jayne Woman later.

  • matty1649 says:

A tiny spray of Feve Delieuse(sp?)

    • Portia says:

OOOH! I love Feve. HA! I have to check the spelling EVERY TIME Matty. Fève Délicieuse. Isn’t it gorgeous?
      Portia xx

  • Portia says:

Tonight for Korean Fried Chicken dinner with the crew I wore Halfeti Leather by Penhaligon’s
Now it’s bed time. I’m going with vintage Bal a Versailles EdC and extrait.
    WOO HOO!
