Oops, no review

So with all the excitement last night that cotinues – which we don’t talk about on this blog! – I totally didn’t remember I should be writing about perfume.

I did have one shock with a perfume I thought I had smelled.  Anita sent me the Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540. I have no idea what i thought it was, but yowsah, that’s really nice! Addictive kind of nice, I may need more of this!  Notes of saffon, jasmine, amberwood, ambergris, fir resin and cedar.  BTW, does anyone else hate the new format at Fragrantica or is it a new format?  I can’t tell, I just don’t like whatever has happened, the font change or something.

As we head pretty quickly into winter – despite we are having a 70-degree weather week – what perfume are you most looking to add to your winter wardrobe, if any, or which one are you looking forward to pulling back out and wearing?

New stuff: It’s past time for me to try Shalimar, so I’ll get to that in a couple of months. Oajans by Parfums de Marly and Chypre Shot by Olfactive Studio are also on my to-try list. Samples to start, as always.

Need more of: Once I get through some bottles and samples, I’ll also be ordering more Found by Mikmoi, both Kulfi and Seafaring Man by L’Aromatica, and Carnal Flower by (say it with me now) Frederic Malle.

Already possess and pulling out for the winter:
-Baikal Gris by Areej Le Dore (will probably be living in this a lot)
-Ensar Oud’s EO No. 2 for warmth
    -SOIVOHLE’s Green Oakmoss for hope
    -Posset’s Reason for baking

Fragrantica’s layout was already bad- but the new one is wrinkle-inducing.

Fragrantica – I guess I’ll have to get used to scrolling, scrolling and more scrolling. Everything’s scattered around.
BR 540 – the sample was WOW, the decant I could hardly finish because of the sticky sweetness suddenly so be careful. I’m talking about the Extrait version.
I’ve bought SL Bapteme du Feu during the spring lockdown and it’s a perfume that literally embodies the heat so I’m looking forward to wearing it in cold weather.

This week I am rediscovering 24 Faubourg which I never liked in the past and now love! A lot of that lately – lots of health changes over the past few years and my skin chemistry sure has changed! In the 70s here in the Midwest. Will switch to Bois des Iles when it gets cold again. Agree – it’s so rich?

  • HeidiC says:

During our cold snap a couple weeks ago, I pulled out my Cuir de Lancôme. Given how much I’m saving on restaurants, work clothes, etc., I think I’m going to treat myself to a bottle of Chanel Cuir de Russie!

  • SpringPansy says:

I agree – the new Fragrantica updates are awful and esp on my phone as shiva-woman said. I hope they will consider updating to something better soon.

I’m in Chergui today and it’s great for unsettled weather on an unsettled day. I had the weirdest experience with Baccarat Rouge 540 – I couldn’t smell it. At all. That’s only happened to me once before (Molecule 01). But now I want to try the BR540 again, just to see if maybe I can smell it now. It would be better for my wallet if I can’t, of course!

  • Do not like the new Fragrantica look at all; and it’s even worse on a phone. I have to try the 540 and I’ve been meaning to, but I’m super depressed that my last chance to have a bottle of Absolue Pour le Soir right when I had the bucks–is no longer available. I even wrote to MFK in Europe. No spare bottles lying around. Bummed today.

  • Calrayo says:

I’ve been considering springing out for a FB of Bois des Iles and this winter might be the year for it. It’s so luscious!

  • Kathleen says:

I adore Baccarat Rouge, glad you are enjoying it as well. It is my sister’s signature scent and smells divine on her and therefore, I don’t wear it frequently because I feel like an imposter while wearing it because it is her smell. But it is unique and beautiful.
I am sampling EL Private Collection today, a beautiful herbal green with honeysuckle and jasmine to my nose.

  • Gina T. says:

Today, I decided I needed a little Breath of God.

    • March says:

I’m just seeing your comment…. ya know, I think you’re right. I definitely have a decant and I’m going to dig it up this morning.

  • Musette says:

last week was vintage Ubar but right now we’re in the 70s so I am in the waxy-rose of Lyric. It’s at its best in the warm-with-cool-undertones of a warmish Autumn day. xoxo

    • Musette says:

and, alas, yes on the Fragrantica site. It’s become almost impossible to read (and I can never tell if I’m in the Search bar because the font is some odd grey-vapor color) – but that’s also a function (it seems) of Windows X. It’s as if they let some 14 yr old with 20/20 vision design the font/cursor . xoxoxo

    • Musette says:

ooh! and: glad you like 540. I was stunned to find it just…sitting… (literally… just SITTING) on my desk! wth? It’s so definitely NOT me (which you can tell, I’m sure). Obviously the Universe wanted you to have that sample! 😉

      xoxoxo

    • SpringPansy says:

And you smell just wonderful. Think I’ll do Lyric tomorrow. I’ve enjoyed it several times the last couple of months.

  • Tara C says:

Right now, I’m thinking CdG Black will be fitting.

    • Gina T says:

I wore True Blood Forsaken yesterday. I will have to find appropriate mourning perfume today. Hmmm. Maybe incense? For prayers that go unanswered.

      • shiva-woman says:

I wore incense yesterday, TF Sahara Noir; then hit the Masque Tango later, and some Ryder. I think today I might wear Calling all Angels. It’s been mournful here too, but maybe prayers will still be answered, though ours were in Cali where I live.
