SOTD 6.11.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 6.11.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

Teint de Neige and two squirts of Insolence. Very fragrant round here today.

  • Portia says:

    Lazy day today.
Going to a gig tonight about 1.5 hours north of Sydney. My first live show since C19 started. It’s totally seated, drinks waiters, 2 course and two bands. The singer of the headline band is a long time mate of mine and he’s finally released his first album of his own material.
Thinking I’ll wear Penhaligon’s Halfeti Leather. It’s beautiful and understated enough that it should play nicely under the general waft.

  • Ariel says:

Incense and Myrrh oil from SOIVOHLE. Feels a bit heavy given the bright crispness of this Portland fall day, but I bet it will be perfect when the rain starts.

  • Cassieflower says:

Narciso Eau Ambrée, badly need this to cheer up amid the cold, grey and gloomy weather.

  • Neva says:

Still trying out Le Labo perfumes…today – Baie 19. I don’t know, it’s cold and dry and ozonic like an arctic breeze. The opening is very sharp, medicinal, with prominent juniper berries. Later on it just smells like plastic with pine needles :-/
I think I’ll have to overspray it. It’s not my cup of tea, but the descriptions were so intriguing that I had to order a sample.

  • Ariel says:

Bourbon (Bulleit) and Chanel No. 5.

Nothing bad happened today… but you know that feeling that your boat is probably- very slowly- sinking? That.

  • Neva says:

I’ve been trying out some samples of Le Labo. Labdanum 18 is so old fashioned and outdated that it made me feel depressed. I had to overspray it with something else, so I chose Lys 41. That’s much better – a fresh spring flower bouquet with a moderate tuberose and jasmine.

    • Ariel says:

What the actual heck. I had the very same experience and did the very same thing last year.

      • Neva says:

Whaaaat? Really? Now I’m curious: which ones from Le Labo have you tried and which one do you like best?

        • Ariel says:

Not very many at all! I don’t keep a journal of perfumes, alas, but I believe Lys 41 is my favorite out of the ones I tried: Vetiver, Satal, and Iris. Sourcing Le Labo is a bit tougher than other companies and since the few I tried didn’t strike my fancy, I moved on. I would like to try the Tonka sometime.

I had been in various vintage iterations of Opium for the last week. Oh those mellowed ambered spicy notes are so good. The Secret de Parfum is especially delicious with all the cosines dialled up but kept closer to the skin.
Today is another riff on vintage spicy mellowed amber but this time with a big old wallop of carnation/clove. Guerlain’s original Terracotta Voile d’Ete.
The good thing about vintage ambers & orientals is that they mellow & improve if kept cool & dark.
My other big love is for vintage citrus & astringent chypres. Sadly, these don’t keep as well despite being stored well. The top notes blow to acetone & the heart notes go ‘fatty’.
So autumn is vintage & spring is contemporary in my world

    • Neva says:

I like how you’ve described it and I agree with you. As a chypre lover I have more vintages of that kind and I really miss the beautiful openings I remember. Unfortunately they’re gone forever. Right now EL Private Collection and Vu by Ted Lapidus come to my mind :-/

      • Alityke says:

Must get me some original EL PC. My big chypre loves were Givenchy III & Choc by Pierre Cardin. I’ve bought too many GIII’s off eBay & non have ever survived. Choc was pretty cheap n cheerful & the one bottle I found WAS in good order so I eek it out.
Missed out on a bottle of Charles of the Ritz last week. Could have cried.

    • Portia says:

      Woo Hoo for vintage Opium!!

  • Portia says:

Sovereign by Le Galion. Rose/Wood/Oudh combo. Very smooth.

  • Cy says:

Wowilla oil and Bengale Rouge. Meeowww.

  • Portia says:

    Sorry all. I’ve been elsewhere.
Right now I’m wearing Alahine by Seo Cabanel.
Spent the day getting annual bloods done.
The house is almost clean, dusting, dishwashing, vacuuming, just got to do the tile floors in bathroom and kitchen.. All the clothes washing is done and hung.

I was away for the weekend and since it was warm and sunny, I pulled out my decant of Malle’s Rose et Cuir. Mmmmm…haven’t worn it for a long time and I realized how gorgeous it is! And the projection is also powerful although I don’t remember it to be that way before, strange…

    • Portia says:

YAY! Glad to read it’s a perfect holiday scent. We are off for a couple of days on Wednesday. I might pack it as my travel.

  • Melanie says:

Enjoying my little cloud of ELDO’s Fat Electrician.
All vetiver and vanilla on me.

  • AnnieA says:

Just met up with a perfume friend for a largely-outdoors jaunt, and I have just put on the passed-along sample of Frassai’s Teisenddu. They seem to be high-classy outfit, although this particular perfume has something…bilgey? in it. They’re always nice to try, though.

  • Cassieflower says:

Mure et Musc, thanks to whoever reminded me this week.

  • Ariel says:

Wearing a moderate amount (five spritzes) of Can Cleef & Arpel’s Bois d’Iris. It’s dank earth and roots, perfect for the slow day of rain and cold in Portland.

  • Portia says:

Stash Unspoken by SJP for Bridal Salon work today.

  • Maya says:

Penhaligon Ostara. It’s a beautiful and warm day here too, absolutely amazing! Ostara is a reminder of spring, in it’s scent as well as in it’s name.

  • Musette says:

it is a gorgeous 73F today and I’m taking advantage of it by hanging out of the upstairs windows and scrubbing the siding free of mildew/mold. Wearing Arielle Shoshana’s Saturday, which is a gorgeous passionfruit! Happy weekend, everybody! xoxoxo

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

Today I am wearing Rhubarb and Custard by 4160 Tuesdays for the first time out in public. I am a gourmand fiend and love this scent, but have been hesitant due to comments that it breaks down into a cannabis impression. That would not be ok at my work, but since it is Friday and most people are teleworking anyway, there will be few people in the office. Two hours in and still not getting anything other than straight rhubarb.

  • Portia says:

There is quite a lot of perfume on me right now. I was blogging earlier and then got spritzed at the mall by a very sexy squirt bitch dude.
    FRAGRANT!
