Luxuriance by Cartier. Rivieres de Cartier Collection

Hey Posse. Cartier has Mathilde Laurent. Her work is brilliant and interesting, has a simplicity and smells cohesive within the Cartier world of perfumery. Every scent I own from her work for them has the lustre of expensive jewellery. Following the trend for colognes in high end brand fragrance wardrobes Cartier released the Rivieres de Cartier Collection in 2021. An affordable selection of cologne style EdTs and the one I fell for instantly was Luxuriance. Shit name, feels so desperately yearning towards luxe and if someone asks I’ll be saying it’s the green one from the Cartier Rivieres de Cartier Collection. They probably won’t. While Luxuriance is very nice it’s not an important milestone in the world of scent. It’s good, smells fine and works beautifully as a daily spritz. The cost is almost half 90ml of YSL Black Opium, and the discounters have it for even less.

Can we talk about the bottle and cap? Instead of the Hermès rounded bottle here we have an octagonal, the edges are softly flattened. It’s a small but definite hint towards facets. Also, the lid is very interesting. Half the lower circle is faceted into baguettes and the other half flat and glasslike. I couldn’t understand why it felt interesting as I pulled the lid off.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Herbal Notes, Fern, Geranium, Rosemary, Mastic or Lentisque, Oak, Pistachio

The Luxuriance notes list is misleading for me here. Yes, there are herbal notes and resins. Maybe some fern and fresh green woods. What is not mentioned though is the citrus. I find this an ode and homage to the pith of a grapefruit. Not the squealingly pissy citrus tang of the juicy heart, though there are very subtle hints of this too.

Personally, that pithy scent is one of my faves. It’s like citrus musk, if there were such a thing. It smells at once furry, fluffy, creamed and tangy. It’s so fresh and speaks to me of springs abundance. It is the starring note on my skin and part of what drew me so decidedly to Luxuriance over the other two releases.

Luxuriance’ longevity is quite good and I can still smell soft trails after a couple of hours. if I spritz my clothes it lasts really well. 100% unisex and perfect for all you northern Hemisphere peeps heading through spring.

Last month I talked about Cartier Decalaration Parfum here on the Posse too.

There have been a few luxury cologne lines recently, do you have a fave so far?

Well, this is the last thing I needed to read. I have enough colognes to sink the Queen Mary, but somehow can never resist adding another one. Citrus scents feed my soul. Would you say it’s a safe blind buy? (For some reason Cartier is M,I.A. at every retailer where I live.)

You know about my HUGE girlcrush on Mme Laurent – she is (at least on the surface) everything I strive to be: effortlessly chic, incredibly talented…

and this sounds like a Musette Scent if ever there was one. It’ll be awhile before I can get back to Cartier, as I’m doing an eval/training for a Corso pup and I doubt either Amtrak or Cartier would appreciate me bringing this behemoth with me!

    xoxoxo

Ooooh, that sounds delicious, and I love the bottle! I never got on the “cologne” train as much … I always figured if I was going to drop real $ on a fragrance it should scare people hehe. Like, 20 incense frags isn’t enough, but 2 colognes or eaux and I’m good… if i were going to try one though it’d be this one!

This sounds very pleasant (I actually typed ‘vert’) but not hugely exciting. The bottle cap is weird — maybe I’m missing the point but it looks like the top of a 1960s built tower.

  • MizChris says:

Can one actually smell the pistachio in this? I am mad for them as snacks and think smelling like one, even slightly, would be a very pleasant thing.

    • Portia says:

Honestly, it didn’t hit me with a bong. If it’s a note you love then you may find it standing head and shoulders above the rest. Fingers crossed eh?

For some reason Cartier, as a Perfume House hasn’t called to me since the days of Must, So Pretty & my personal favourite, Panthere.
I do enjoy grapefruit in fragrance, bitter pith, shiny peel, cat pissy pulp & juice but I own too many Pamplelune’s & a precious YSL In Love Again where I can get my grapefruit kicks.
Sadly, a £1500 car bill & the need for a new front door means I’m keeping away from temptation.
Hope Jin’s dad is on the mend

    Pithy grapefruit? Count me in!
