OOPS! Sorry

OOPS! Sorry Posse, I missed this morning, and was down in Melbourne so didn’t get to scramble something together.

OOPS! Sorry

Anna Maria and I flew down on the 8.10am, got the bus to Melbourne, met Margeaux and Rob D Blandford for brunch.

OOPS! Sorry

The four of us headed over to the newly opened MEGA Mecca. The largest beauty store on earth and wandered around. Fab U Lous. I retried two on my list Diptyque L’Eau Papier and original Comme des Garcons pebble bottle. LOVE! Didn’t buy. We also spent a little time with the Dries Van Notten offerings. They’re good but I’m NOT paying that kind of money for them.

I was just thinking, my last Melbourne perfume purchase was Cuba Intense by Nicolai.

Rob left and we hit the National Gallery of Victoria for the French Impressionists from Boston. WOW! I’d only seen one of the paintings before and was totally blown away. We had a guided tour and the insights we were offered by our guide gave depth and structure to what we saw. SO MUCH new information. I was so mesmerized that there are only three pictures, plus a Yayoi in the entrance. Taken for Jin because he wasn’t there. Two Pissarro’s and a picture of Monet in the garden at Giverny. WOW!

OOPS! Sorry

We met up with Alice and wandered to my favourite Melbourne fast food pub where we met a coterie of Melbourne’s perfumista crew. Always nice to spend some quality time with the heavy huffers down there. We talked perfume, life, olive oil, politics and art. It was a wonderful give and take, and no one got offended or snarky. Real grown up chatter.

OOPS! Sorry

Then it was time to catch the bus back to the airport. I was so stuffed that I lay out and slept for 20 or 30 minutes.

Flight home with Anna Maria. She took a cab and I jumped a train, then light rail, then walked the final leg in beautiful spitting rain.

Slept like dead people.

How was your day? Hope yours wasn’t an OOPS! Sorry.

What a a fabulous day, we are so lucky to be able to do this each year. Mecca was incredible, the art, oh the art was sublime. Always lots of interesting people to meet and gab with along the way. Truly the best day.

  • Dina C. says:

Thanks for sharing your day with us, Portia. Sounds like a super sniffa with great people. Loved the art. Exhausting but very fun!

  • March says:

Oh this sounds AMAZING and whoa what a day! Glad everything was fine (better than fine!) it sounds like a more exciting version of me taking the bus to NYC for the day when I lived in DC! I would love to spend a day (heck, a week!) visiting the largest beauty store on earth!

  • cinnamon says:

Not an oops, a wow. Love those sorts of full flying (literally) visits. So much squished into a day. Thanks for sharing.

  • Maya says:

It looks and sounds like you had a lovely day. Good for you! I’d be very surprised if there is anyone who has never had an OOPS day. Since you asked, my day was one of those overall pleasant ones.

  • Tom says:

I’d wondered what happened but am thrilled that you had such a fun side trip!

  • alityke says:

    I envy your energy!
Was there anything caught your fancy from the Dries range? I haven’t tried any, way out of my budget, but those flacons are so purdee!
I think it was the Soie Malaquais that had a hit influencer moment when the line launched.

    • Portia says:

      Heya Alityke,
There were three DvNs that the crew spritzed that were pretty stellar. One was the myrrh, another a green but I can’t remember. Definitely worth about 1/2 what they’re asking.
