Love to hear from you!

By Musette

I’ve gotten a number of emails from folks who are uncertain how to post comments on our new format.  Right now it looks like the comment access is at the top right hand of the actual post.   I think mine looks different because I am logged-in as admin (mine just says ’20 responses’ or whatever).  It’s in very light type so you have to sort of squint to see it.   Yours may say ‘add comments’.  Anyhoo, if you click on that, it will get you into the comments section –  once you’re in the actual comment section doesn’t differ overmuch from our original – it has a ‘submit comment’ button, etc.   And  I think if you are connected via an RSS feed (or equiv) when you click on the specific post, you get a ‘Leave a Reply’ button (and box) down at the bottom, without having to go through the ‘add comments” step.   At least I think you do.  Again, I can’t tell because of my Exalted Position of Admin. :)) so I’d love to hear from you guys who are trying to navigate the new site.  At last check the threading seems to be working pretty well.  We’ll see what’s what on the ‘getting into the comments’ button as we move forward.  I can’t say much of anything about it because I have not done Did-doodley-diddly-squat on the reno of the site.  I’m just baskin’ in the reflected Glory What Is The New Perfume Posse! Big Boss

this was all clear as mud, right?  Well, be patient my darlings.  We are still a-tweakin’.  ‘We’.  heh.  I couldn’t ‘tweak’ this site if you threatened me with a live cobra.  Patty’s doing it – and doing a foine job.  But it’s a Work In Progress.

But with change comes adjustment to change.  So I think we should all practice, so we can navigate the site with ease!  So how’s this?  Leave a comment, tell me  how easy/hard it was to comment.  Tell me something pithy, silly, fun, mean….let ‘er rrriiiip!  I will pick a winner using random.org (Carmine refuses to help anymore) and send you a couple of fun samples.  Comments will be open through Midnight CST 21March.

xoxo Musette, standing in for March who will be back shortly.  Next week you are in for a treat!  We have a Guest Post that is fabulously cool!

    Here’s a perfume joke.

After being away on business, Tim thought it would be nice to bring his wife a little gift.

“How about some perfume?” he asked the cosmetics saleslady.

She showed him a bottle costing $50.00.

“That’s a bit much,” said Tim, so she returned with a smaller bottle for $30.00.

“That’s still quite a bit,” Tim complained.

Growing annoyed, the clerk brought out a tiny $15.00 bottle.

“What I mean,” said Tim, “is I’d like to see something really cheap.”

The clerk handed him a mirror.

I registered but I will never be able to remember the password word press gave me and I don’t see anyway of changing it.

  • sunnlitt says:

Well, I appear to be logged in. I don’t know how that happened.

I have always have trouble getting used to a new look. Pouts a bit.
I am glad that others mentioned the glare of the unrelenting whiteness. I hate to be whiney, but it hurts my aging eyeballs. Sigh.

But, no matter what, I will continue reading for both the fabulous postings and the snappy responses. Thanks for creating such a wonderful space.

  • morsecode says:

A bit irritating to have to log in, but not too difficult.

  • kizzers says:

I like the new format – change is good! I usually read posts on my phone, and the mobile view has changed too, which I really like (no ads, just posts and comments), but to comment I have to go back to web view…

  • OperaFan says:

I’d have to say that I miss the “old fashioned” look and feel of the older version – but I’ll get used to this. As far as finding the comments and figuring out how to leave replies, as someone who works in the IT industry – shame on me if I wasn’t able to figure it out on my own….
    ;-)

  • EileenS says:

It took a few minutes, but I got here. The layout looks pretty good in Camino, but I don’t get the bottle pictures down the side.

Perfume-wise, I’m in a quandry. It’s warm enough for summery scents, but my nose is stuck in winter. I’ve just given up for a few days and will see what I feel like wearing over the weekend.

  • rosiegreen says:

Hooray I can now comment. I like the new layout but I also miss the perfume bottles up top.
Waiting anxiously for a perfume delivery. Cheers.

  • OhLily says:

Looking good on my end…thanks for all your hard work ladies! Just used my last bit of Aliage(76 degrees with a bit of humidity? Huh?!) and I’m now in a bit of a panic wondering how the current version compares to the original. Is it worthwhile, or will I end up weeping and swearing?

  • HemlockSillage says:

Greetings to the ‘Posse! You know I luvs you guys, when I’m willing to jump through hoops to continue participating in this fun community. Still haven’t things out on my mobile, but the comments display on that looks neater and more tightly spaced. Signing up with WordPress was a little challenging, and I hope I can somehow get in and edit my settings. Just the crazy password will keep me from posting easily, I’ll have to look it up every time I sign in.

You know I have the attention span of a gnat hopped up on caffeine and sugar!

My display also lacks the pearl bedecked Samsara bottle and petals I saw yesterday on my phone. . .Actually, other than the aforementioned faux “CLICK HERE” button, ads and gravitars, I have not much in the way of graphics at all. I’m sure it will be fixed by more computer smart folks than me :) I will miss the devilish March and Patty avatars, though for a long time my computer had defaulted to the arsenic and old lace format.

Be well, alla you guys. Looking forward to how things will continue to grow here.

  • Jillie says:

I had the Samsara-type bottles yesterday, but they have disappeared today.

Also vanished is that little box thing that lets you click on it to alert you to any replies to your comment.

I am a luddite, and I invariably get through in the end by tapping on any old box or phrase until I get more or less where I wanted to be. Don’t understand nuffink.

    • Ann says:

Hey Jillie, I’m right there with you; don’t understand nuffink or nuthin’ either. Just flying by the seat of my pants, as they say. I have a whole row of rose-petal and pearl-draped Samsara bottles going down the right side of my screen — one image for each comment and reply. I like Samsara fine but this is just way too much of a good thing! :)

  • Queen-Cupcake says:

Took me forever to log in to WordPress without using my Facebook profile. I do not love WordPress. But now I’m logged in. Yay.

  • Mrs. Honey says:

Well, the whole pass word thing is a pain but I was able to comment without too much difficulty once the registration was done.

  • Janice says:

It was easy to log in and comment. I’ve been using Safari for the last couple of days–and seeing the wallpaper with all the red bottles–but also just tried Firefox, which looks much cleaner. However, unlike Milena, in Safari I can see the Home, Perfume Posse Forum, and Drop Us a Note buttons, and I can also see the links to other blogs.

  • Milena says:

In Chrome and Internet Explorer the layout is the same, as others described, clean and white. In Safari however it is strange (it shows me the Word Press default look) – Home, Perfume Posse Forum and the Drop us a Note! buttons are missing at all, no Archives and links to other blogs. I think I support Rosarita’s opinion.

When I registered with Word Press in order to log in, I was given a password; I want to change it to something that I can memorize, but I don’t see this option.

  • Francesca says:

The first time I logged in, I was given an incomprehensible password, so I just asked that the site remember me. The next time I went to post a comment, they asked me for a password. I clicked the “forgot password?” button, but they never sent me another one. Then, somehow, I logged in via facebook. And I’m still logged in.

Wearing Poncet Eau Eternelle today. I should have gone for something more appropriate for a cool damp gray day.

I haven’t checked the site on Safari, but it sure looks nice and clean on Firefox. And why can’t your thousands of fans use the emoticons?? Bummer.

    • Francesca says:

Huh. I see it’s using my facebook profile picture instead of my glam shot from 1974.

    • Janice says:

Above the reply box, there should be a line that says “Logged in as [your name].” Click on your name and it takes you to a page where you can enter a new (comprehensible!) password.

  • Tatiana says:

Took me my middle aged eye sight a good ten minutes to find that “Add comments” link. And then another 10 to get my user name and password to work. I have a love/hate relationship with all this computer stuff. Love that I can get so easily connected to everyone and everything. Hate having to remember all the passwords and how to do everything. I remember being in college and saying in class one day, “Wouldn’t it be great to be able to have a computer do all this for you, so you wouldn’t have to do it by hand?” And the professors reply was, “Computer resolution will never be fine enough to do this type of work. And be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.”
Happy I figured out how to do this without having to ask DH for help. He already thinks I spend way too much time reading perfume blogs.

  • Suzy Q says:

Thanks to Kathryn for mentioning how different it looks in different browsers. In Safari it looks as she describes and gives me a panic attack. All those bits of bottles and petals obscure the text and clutter the appearance of the site. I wondered if I’d ever be able to hang out on the Posse again. It’s that bad, especially on the Forum page. In Chrome it’s clean, so that the important parts and colored text, avatars, etc. show up really well. I feel calm and happy to be here. Ahhhhhh…..

I really appreciate the mobile view! It loads so quickly compared to the old site.

  • Eldarwen22 says:

I do think with the whole lotta plain white, it kind of hurts the eyes. Kind of like that cornea searing yellow highlighter. Maybe a cream colored background would be a little better.

  • Joanne says:

I can’t imagine how you keep your sanity through this change. It took me minutes and minutes to FINALLY get logged in, which, by the way, changed the “20 Comments” to “Add Comment,” which was the button I’d been looking for from the start. Inhaling this morning’s choice of Apres l’Ondee. Deep breath. Feeling better. I do miss the perfume bottle motif, but I’m flexible. (Ha.)

  • Kathryn says:

The new format looks very different in different web browsers. In Firefox it’s great, very clean and modern with lots of white space to keep things clear and legible. However, in Safari instead of a clean white background there’s a wallpaper with repeats of red perfume bottles, pearls and rose petals. The page is hard to read in this format, with fragments of bottles etc. surrounding every text box. This cross platform web design stuff is soooo complicated! I really applaud your venturesome spirits!

    • March says:

lol, that’s supposed to be one perfume bottle (I liked that photo) at the top, not all over the page. And it doesn’t show up in Firefox at all.

  • Sujaan says:

Change is good! I’m on an iPad so not sure if that affects how things look. I agree with many of the other comments: the comment spot is faint, I too miss the bottles of “poison”, but it is white and crisp – like a new coat of paint! It’s all new but I will adapt. I guess my biggest issue is that when i use my fingers to widen the page so that the adds can be off screen, I have a lot of white space between comments.

  • rosarita says:

‘Morning, all. My comment place switches around from leave reply under a post to the right hand side. The overall look is a bit too white & sterile for my taste, but that’s just me; I am old and crotchety and probably don’t take to change well – you kids get off my lawn!

Sigh. I’m wearing my old friend Bulgari White Tea today. Smells crisp and perfect and summery. Have a lovely day, Posse!

    • Ann says:

Hi, Rosarita! Your “get off my lawn” comment had me howling with laughter — can just hear my grandfather (God rest his soul), yelling that at the neighborhood kids. The new format’s whole-lotta white space kinda discombobulates me, too, but I guess we’ll all get used to it. Enjoy your white tea today — think I’ll go fix myself a cup.

      • Jillie says:

Ann – love “discombobulates”! That is my word for today, as it seems to sum up everything I feel as an old curmdugeon. (And it is so lovely to say … discombobulates, discombobulates.) I am not loving all my blank spaces much either, but then the important thing is being able to read everyone’s comments, and I can so that’s fine.

To lighten my crotchety mood I am going to have a cup of Twinings Royal Wedding Tea which they brought out last year. I think it is white tea with rose petals – I am looking forward to it. Am wearing again EL’s Jasmine & White Moss, which seems perfect for the almost hot sunshine we’re getting here at the moment (southern England – now officially drought-stricken!).

      • HemlockSillage says:

Yay! Ann, you checked in. I actually looked through both the comments here at the ‘Posse and over at NST, and had a small freak out, that hadn’t seen anything from you or Daisy in a while. You crack me up, and I love your comments. “Discombobulates,” indeed. I need you around to remind me of fun words like that. (BTW, my word for the day is callipygian :D) Be well. . .and if you see/hear from Daisy, tell her she’s missed.

  • Tara says:

If I am not logged in I have to clink on “responses” and then it takes me to the comments but I have to log in to comment. When logged in I just click on comments and it immediately takes me to an open comment box. It was a little confusing at first, but as they say “change is good.” I would love to know how to get those awesome emotionicans (I know I spelled that wrong!). Have a great Wednesday!

  • Barbara says:

I too miss the old perfume bottles! Half my screen is big white space also.

  • Louise says:

I can’t stay logged in to WordPress for some reason, so that’s an extra step-not a bid deal. The area that notes where to comment said “10 responses” in verrry faint type. Not bad once you know to do it-but not super transparent.

Kudos to Patty for all the fiddling!

  • KirstenMarie says:

I’d say it’s my spring-time scent, but it’s been so warm here in DC the past three weeks that I’d call it early summer. I broke out Lubin’s Gin Fizz last week and paired it with Ciao Bella’s Key Lime Graham gelato. Instant summer! Thought I may need to spring for a bottle of Heeley’s Sel Marin. Love that stuff – and it lasts on me better than the re-formulated Gin Fizz.

  • March says:

PS that is “the Glory WHUT Is The New Perfume Posse!” Wherz ur spelchek?

  • March says:

You send me some rose fragrances, woman, and I will cut you. Or send you Secretions Magnifique. Your choice. xo

  • Alica61 says:

Yeah, it takes time to get used to the new layout but OK, I would like to participate on this contest, thank you!

  • Ninara Poll says:

After registering, I had no problems signing in. Layout-wise… I’m using Opera 11.6whatever, and the side margins of the page are rather… wide… in total, about half of my screen is white space, half of it content, like a text sandwich with big fluffy white buns. I’m not sure if that much margin is intended, or if it’s Opera being as quirky as is wants to be, but I thought I’d mention it just in case.

  • Lisa D says:

Well, I like the new look – the old one was looking a bit, um, old. Was able to log in and reply fairly quickly, though it looks as if I can’t reply to any specific person in the forums (or I just haven’t figured out how, yet).

    All out of pith, sorry.

What’s up with the biggreenbutton? I thought it would take me to a beautiful land far far away, or at least give me a “You’re the lucky 100th visitor!” message, or sumpin’ along those lines. Clearly, I’m one of those marks who always falls for the “Pull my finger!” joke. If you tell me to click here, I’ll click.

    • March says:

lol I took out the link and then thought I’d blown up the entire post. That was fun.

    • KirstenMarie says:

The one thing I do miss from the old Posse are the line of bottles across the top. They were just so pretty. I’m not saying I have to have them back or I’ll DIE, but you know… they greeted my tea and I when I stopped in to chat. I’m sentimentally attached. :)

  • Joanna says:

I like it, I think it’s a little easier to navigate than that old layout.

  • nozknoz says:

Musette, I finally figured out how to log on – hurray – and I think my gravatar is even here with me, so I say that’s total success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you have fun tweaking the website. I like the new colors but am finding the multiple images a bit confusing. I’m sure my brain will adapt in time.
