Lace by A Wing & A Prayer 2013

Hello Posseeeeee!! Portia from AustralianPerfumeJunkies bringing you something brand, spanking NEW, micro niche, artisan, small batch perfumery that is both lovely and affordable. Done by one of my favourite very little companies, A Wing & A Prayer.  Straight up I will tell you that Jane Cate from the company has sent me this sample and that I am predisposed to love it because I have tried quite a few of their fragrances and loved almost all of them to the point of purchase. There are three new scents coming out over the next short while and I am going to introduce you to the first, which is already available on their A Wing & A Prayer Etsy site(<<JUMP).

Lace by A Wing & A Prayer 2013

Lace A Wing & A PrayerStolen from Etsy

Jane Cate has sent me these featured accords and information: Earl & Lady Grey Tea leaves are tinctured in perfumers cane alcohol.
Top: Meyer lemon, mint, bergamot
Heart: Nutmeg, ginger lily, geranium, lavender
Base: Vetiver, labdanum, clove

WOW!! That citrus and mint opening is very bright and herbal, it smells like crushing the leaves of both in your hands and grinding zest at the same time. It’s fresh and alive and POW knocks dreariness and dolldroms out of site. It doesn’t last more that a few minutes at that intensity and then it begins to become spiced, with a floral/herby masculine feel that will be killer on the ladies. It reminds me slightly of Gucci Envy Pour Homme, GORGEOUS!! The geranium continues with the minty fresh feel but everything else is blended into a very beautiful, herbal gourmand, foody but not sweet. I am loving how the nutmeg comes and goes through this lovely lavender herbaceousness, now you smell it and now you don’t. Like an olfactory hide & seek. At about the 1 hour mark the whole of Lace starts to settle beautifully and I have no idea what a Ginger Lily smells like but I am getting a spicy white-ish flower floating across the fragrance that could be it.

Lace A Wing & A Prayer Herbal Tea HowToGradenPhoto Stolen HowToGarden

Ha Ha HA!! It’s TEA! I can smell the teas. Now that I’ve got them they have been there all along, I’m just too dumb to notice. AWESOME!

The clove begins to move itself front and centre about now, not photo realistic but an extremely interesting fragrant nod towards clove that reminds me of the Bouquet Garni that I throw into Pumpkin Soup during the early stages of its simmer. I completely miss the vetiver but slowly, slowly the labdanum makes its entrance, giving light and warmth and a cosiness. Lace lasts extremely well for a natural perfume, which are notoriously short lived, and I still have lovely traces of it wafting warmly up my sleeve at the 5 hour mark.

A Wing & A Prayer sells 1oz or 30ml of Lace for $75 at their Etsy store
Did you also know you can buy Lace in a 3 x 4ml Mini Sampler Set from Etsy with your choice of the whole range for only $10? Currently my 3 faves are Lace, Berkeley and Big Sur. Try them for yourself.

If you liked this then trot on over to AustralianPerfumeJunkies and say HI. We would love to see you.

Carmel is a good one if you want oakmoss. I’m also partial to Autumn Breeze (citrus and lilac), will have to save up for a FB. On me, unfortunately, Big Sur is nothing but pink pepper. I read a great review of it on another blog, though.

  • Dionne says:

I stumbled upon Wing and a Prayer almost three years ago, and was floored at the good deals and generous samples. (I love those.) They’re especially good with the florals, and it was lovely for a change not to have a rose scent go sour on my skin. My favorite at the time was San Francisco Mist, but I’ve been meaning to put in another order, as I’ve heard great things about Haight and Ashbury.

    • Portia says:

      Interesting Dionne,
Two of you in a row talked roses. You know I’m a sucker for them, and they stayed buoyant for you. Looks like ill be shopping you naughty, fabulous, enabler,

I love Jane and her perfumes! She does some of my favorite roses. Lace is really pretty, love it.

  • Jane Cate says:

    Portia:
Thank you so much for the wonderful review of
LACE perfume. One of your fans, Janice, let me know the review was on the Posse blog.
Thanks again and hope you are having fun wherever you are!
    Take care
    Jane

      Hey Jane Cate,
Your product is so good and I am thrilled you have dropped by to say thanks. I hope you have a great response from the Posse.

This review made me laugh out loud, it was just so exuberant! I love tea and mint and your description of this sounds a bit like my beloved Agraria Bitter Orange, only with lemon! I’mo have to try this! xoxoA

    • Portia says:

      Hello you gorgeous girl Musette,
I don’t know the Agraria Bitter Orange but you have tweaked my interest.
Are you well? I hope life is sending you lemonade.

  • I’ve heard of this line but I haven’t tried any of them. I should look at Etsy more.

      Hey Jennifer Counts,
A little secret, Etsy has some Vintage bargains that on eBay would bankrupt a small European nation. I recently scored some Vintage Shalimar EdC I think 100ml in the beautiful rounded bottle with stopper, still sealed and in near perfect colour condition too for under $150!! Ah May Zing!
I am a regular Etsy trawler and have found some very interesting micro niche perfumers there.

  • Janice says:

Oooh, off to order some samples now! I love some of the things you can find on Etsy, I recently read a review of a little company that sells gorgeous handmade soaps and I’ve been buying those.

I was just looking at A Wing & A Prayer’s site after reading your review and it looks like quite a few of her scents use oakmoss–there’s an advantage to being a small perfumery that doesn’t have to be so worried about IFRA’s restrictions!

  • eldarwen22 says:

I hope you realize that I am looking at Bronte instead of Lace even though tuberose is not my favorite note. Mainly because Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books.

    • Hi eldarwen22,
I LOVE Jane Eyre too. What a sensational story, I think it moulded parts of my personality, I took them from the original Mrs Rochester. He He HE! Did you ever read Shirley or Villette? Nt quite so dramatic but sensational reads in their own right.
Go on, try the TUBEROSE, it may be your gateway

Love your exuberant review. Sounds like the perfume is refreshing as well. I’ve seen the ads for this company, but hadn’t gotten around to trying anything. Thanks for the push, Portia.

  • Suzy Q says:

Hi Portia. I bought a bottle of Haight & Ashbury this spring, which I love. Well obviously I love it–I bought a FB! Jane sent a sample of Big Sur. Wow, it was love at first sniff! I’ll be picking up a bottle of it in the fall. I tried and failed describing it to someone. I’d like to hear you describe it. Now I’m curious about Lace, too. Thanks for the review!

    • Heya SuzieQ,
YAY!! Another A Wing & A Prayer fan. When I get back to civilisation i have a plan to do a bunch of multi reviews, short and sweet. I will include Big Sur there.
I have yet to try their Haight & Ashbury but now you have ME interested.

Howdy, Portia! Mmmm … this one sounds a treat. I’ve only tried one or two from this line but now will definitely have to go exploring. My wallet is giving you the stinkeye right about now 😉 Hope you’re having a great time wherever you are today in your travels. Enjoy!

    • Ha Ha HA! Ann! The Stinkeye!! Hilarious. I think the tester set is perfect for perfumistas. At 10 bucks is your wallet really giving me the Stinkeye?
Nice to see you, India is hot, colourful, smelly and fabulous. Currently I’m in rural Rajasthan in a small town population 2.5 million.

Tee-hee — the stinkeye is just in general for all the great stuff you make me waaaant to try, ha! 🙂 Have fun and stay cool!
