Friday Night Fragrances: Date Night Delight

Hey Hey Perfume Posse, Portia from Australian Perfume Junkies to remind you tomorrow it will be Friday Night! WOO HOO! We’ve worked all week, most of us, in whatever capacity our week takes. It’s Friday Night and you can cut loose, let your hair down or put it up, go hang with the crew or the one you love. Friday Nights around here are Date Night and Jin & I do as many together as we can. It’s not always possible, sometimes I get a gig or Jin is working 7 days and is too tired. Even so we do something together and sometimes it’s so late or we are so tired that means we go to bed and read/play computer games/chat and have a cuppa before we head for the land of nod. We don’t always keep it just us either, it can be just as fun doing Friday Night Date Night with the crew.

Friday Night Fragrances: Date Night Delight

Shalimar by Guerlain: Any vintage, every strength and all the lotions and potions. I wear Shalimar a lot for Friday Night Date Night because it smells terrific on me, lasts really well and it isn’t intrusive. I just know that I smell amazing, like a vanilla/citrus ice cream that gets more lived in as the night progresses.

Scarlett by Cacharel: I think this one has been discontinued but you can get it for a song at the discounters. White flowers, honey, fruit and tea are the main ingredients and it is sweet, fun, pretty and quite good projection and longevity. Dry down is a soft warm generic wood with a little kick of animal honey to make it interesting.

Tuberosa by Les Voiles Depliees: If you LOVE Tuberose and are unafraid of its siren song then this could be the find of the decade for you. Tougher and more strident than Fracas it is a tuberose POWERHOUSE, I get a plastic, a peachy, and a milky almond: none of which are in the official notes. The amber/patchouli is very synthetic and I love it, so fun

Ubar by Amouage: I love Ubar, can wear it any time of year and know it will be amazing. In winter it is a spicy, cozy, cushy and plush fragrance that will warm me through. In summer though Ubar blooms in an entirely different way, all that hot stuff unfurls differently, there is more vetiver and the flowers are more fun and festive. In summer Ubar says “Where’s the party?”

Une Voix Noire by Serge Lutens: Gardenia done with a berry intro and a dark breathy dry down. A boozy gardenia that sits quietly on my skin, extremely beautiful, sensual, exotic and alluring but a close set beauty that has good sillage but not too strong projection. Excellent movie or theatre choice.

Vanille Absolument by L’Artisan Parfumeur: Sadly this vanilla beauty is also discontinued but I do see it on the discounters sometimes quite cheaply. Wonderful fragrance for cool evenings that turn into super hot nights. Ultimate sensuality, the vanilla, tobacco, run and resins of the dry down melt into your skin and create the fantasy flavour you always wished you could smell like.

Friday Night Fragrance Question?

So sure, I have a some faves but what I really want to know is “What Do You Wear for Date Night?” Do you have a Friday Night routine? Is it a special frag or does the frag change to suit the mood? Do the seasons matter in your choice? What will you wear this week?

Go To It crew. If you liked this then why not trot over and see what’s going on at Australian Perfume Junkies. we love visitors.

To paraphrase the “most interesting man in the world”, I don’t often have a date night, but when I do, I wear Parfums DelRae’s Debut.

I like Debut a lot, but I wouldn’t say it’s one of my absolute favorite scents. However, I have had more men I don’t know approach me asking me what I was wearing when I’m in this scent than in any other scent I wear. I can do the math. If it does something that nice on me that strangers are commenting, I would think it should work a little magic on a date night, too. 😉

Happy 4th to all my American friends.

I just wrote you the best reply ever and lost it Teri.
      GRRRRR! So annoying.
Basically In asked in a very amusing way, Who is “most interesting man in the world”?

Oh Portia, I’m sorry. I do keep forgetting American media isn’t global.

There’s a long-running set of commercials for Des Equuis beer here in the US. The main character in all the commercial is described as ‘the most interesting man in the world’ and various amazing attributes are given him in each of the commercial spots. His tag line is the same in all the ads. He says “I don’t always drink beer, but when I do, I drink Dos Equuis”.

Here’s a link for them on Youtube, if you’re interested.

I thought of you as I spritzed on the vintage Ubar yesterday – it was 58F, which is a 30-degree drop in 24 hrs (really!) – it smelled really weird. Good…but weird. Like it didn’t know whether to act Summer or Autumn. It was fun to watch it twist around.

YAY! I love an out of season spritz that works. 30 degree drop in 24 hours? It must be hell deciding ewhat to wear for the day.
I am so glad you thought of me when you spritzed. Every time I spritz something bought on the ScentSation Bus Tour I think of you.

Since I don’t have a significant other, there is no such thing as a “date night”. But I do love Shalimar and think it would be a great date night scent. What does strike me as date night scents would be Theorema and Bal. But Bal in vintage only since the current formulation really sucks. But thanks for reminding me about Havana Vanille because I don’t wear it often.

    • Portia says:

      Eldarwen22,
I worry that if I wear Bal I will smell like I have already been on a date, and it got very sexy. I think Jin would be outraged, maybe I SHOULD wear it. Just for shits & giggles.

  • Caroline says:

Totally on board with your Shalimar choice, Portia, this is one I couldn’t handle till last year, but now I love it in cooler weather. I wanted to love Une Voix Noire, but it was awful and prominently stale cigarette-ish on me. Tomorrow over on NST, they’re having a wear an American perfume day to mark the 4th. Planning to wear my one & only Aftelier (hope it doesn’t clash with the Off! I’ll have to apply–2 parades to attend!)

    • Portia says:

YAY!! Another Shalimar convert Caroline. Totally glad.
Maybe apply the off to different parts of your body and your frag on the covered regions, and your top.
      Have a great July 4th.

  • Ann says:

Howdy, Portia! Great post, except that for me, my favorite date (DH) is at the beach for another day or two 🙁 But that’s OK, I’ll treat myself to my favorite meal and enjoy my own company, curling up with a good book after dark. Besides, tomorrow (Friday) is the Fourth of July here in the States so there’ll be fireworks, parades, parties, all kinds of goings-on, so it might be nice to have a little quiet time squeezed in there. Love your scent choices, and that Cacharel sounds nice, but I can never seem to entice dear Shalimar into being my friend, wah! But some of her more approachable offspring (Ode, Mexique, etc.) are nice to me. 🙂

    • Portia says:

      Hi there Ann,
United States of America are closed for party production this week. I have noticed a considerable drop in readership over at APJ from the states since Monday. 4th of July is fun over there, I did a gig in Miami one year for it and we had a blast. Boy do they know how to party down there.
I hope you enjoy your DH-less moments and then enjoy his return too.
      Happy July 4th.
