Heya Posse! New stuff from Trudon is always cue for celebrations. While not all of their offerings suit my taste, they are all nicely crafted and often smell as expensive as they are. Midnight Omen is not groundbreaking but it does that scratchy woods and ambers in a very wearable and non combative way. I also like the red bottle, a lot. My decant is from Surrender To Chance not long ago and it’s sat here patiently awaiting my notice. Many of you poo poo the scratchy wood/amber genre. With the loss of so many of our stalwart base notes something had to come take their place. It seems like it’s become the obvious progression from the oudh craze. Will the young perfumistas of today be descrying the scratchy woods/amber in 20 years when perfumery has made its next move onward and upward?

Midnight Omen opens with a dark, inky, saffron rich leather. Very brand new super glossy patent leather boots. The name is (for once) an excellent indication of what we are going to smell. So weird that it’s a red bottle and not witchy gothic black, or green. Why is there always a disconnect somewhere in the presentation? It’s like someone isn’t paying attention.
Sandalwood and patchouli lead the heart. It’s still a leather fragrance but Midnight Omen takes a couple of deep breaths and resets to smooth. I’m surprised there are no resins noted. I get that tears of mastic bright, clear resinousness with a little green sappiness. The musks are very fleshy and a little sweaty, cumin anyone? Every breath of Midnight Omen is a new horizon, right down to the last gasp.
You could easily be forgiven for writing this fragrance off at first sniff. Give it a go and I’m pretty sure you’ll find it’s MUCH more than just that heavy top.
Things you might like to know. Midnight Omen is an extrait. Also, it comes in 15ml travel size for a reasonable price.
Longevity is excellent and projection is good. You might want to be a little careful of overspritzing. It could easily become a beast mode nightmare. Then you’ll smell like a sad eyed INCEL.
