Summer 2015: Perfume Posse Best of Fragrances

Hey hey Perfume Posse,

It’s SUMMER in the Northern Hemisphere and I know you are all excited to see what the Posse are spritzing to keep themselves cool, calm and collected or maybe out heating the fiery furnace with hefty and resinous Arabian style scents. They may be brand new, vintage, parfum, lotion, or a slew of other things. Knowing the Perfume Posse I reckon it could even go as far off topic as books, recipes, sexual positions or holiday destinations….

Each year we get together with Now Smell This, Grain de Musc, Bois de Jasmin & The Non Blonde and you can jump over to read them after, I’ll put the hyperlinks at the bottom of the page too.

Summer 2015: Perfume Posse Best of Fragrances

Ann’s Summer 2015 picks:

Le Labos Tubereuse 40: Although it seems to pack just as much orange blossom as tubereuse, if not more, it’s OK by me — this beauty always makes me feel like a million bucks. Yes, its price tag and exclusivity are a pain, but it’s just so gorgeous, and a spritz or two from my decant seems to last all day, wafting up to delight me when I least expect it.

Frederic Malle Eau de Magnolia: This one ticks the three-season box for me, but it really shines in hot weather. Its citrusy, bergamot open is refreshing and extremely long-lasting; in fact, it never quite fades away completely, but later on morphs into a recognizable, although somehow abstract, edition of the magnolias I’ve sniffed (at least on my skin). It’s light and natural enough not to offend anyone but has just enough oomph to make me feel fresh, polished and put-together despite the heat and humid, muggy air of our summers in the South.

Kai: Despite its mixed reviews, this green, gardenia and white floral number has been a summer love for me since my son’s near-fatal swimming accident back in 2010, thanks to its lovely simplicity that’s both lush and clean. Also, it gets props for affordability AND for coming in so many forms, from the usual suspects (shower gel, body lotion, cream) to candles, shampoo, room spray, deodorant and more. If you’re a fan, you can surround yourself in Kai. (I know Portia is a fan of the bathing bubbles.  🙂  )

Portia’s Summer 2015

OK so I know I’m in the Southern Hemisphere but I just got back from holidays in Singapore and South Korea so I do have a handle on the hot weather and what I wore, or wish I’d worn.
As cheap & cheerful as it is I can’t seem to get enough Madonna Truth or Dare lately. Its creamy white floral vanilla hits the spot perfectly for me in all climates but it works particularly well in the warmth of summer. You want to smell like a sensual summer siren? This is the one for you.
In the mid range I wore over half my rollerball of La Chasse aux Papillons by L`Artisan Parfumeur while on our 12 day holiday. It’s a greener white floral than the Madonna and whispers softly of shady water gardens, sipping cool mocktails and trailing your fingers in the water while rereading some sensational 1990s or early 2000s summer potboiler by Jane Green, Maeve Binchy or Olivia Goldsmith. I liked having the rollerball in my postie bag so I could refresh through the day.
In the expensive arena I do go through quite a lot of my L’Heure Convoiteé II by Cartier in the heat. It’s an icy blast of powder and freshness that can cut through the most wicked heat like a scythe. Carnation, iris and powder done dewy, cool and very classy.
When life just gets too hectic or my head needs a rest from the full on fragrances I tend to grab my Amouage Dia Body Lotion in the big 10oz pump pack. It’s fragrance is subtle but lingering and has really good projection and sillage but doesn’t seem so personally intrusive as it EdP sister.
P.S. A couple of new things I’ll be loving for Summer 2015: Misia by CHANEL, Eau Noble by Le Galion, Le Jardin de Monsieur Li by Hermès and Penhaligon’s Trade Routes Collection Empressa.

Patty’s Summer 2015 Picks

I am having a very incensey summer – Unum Lavs, Armani Prive Sable Fume are right at the top of the list and in steady rotation.  Rose is calling my name this summer as well, so I grab the occasional Rosine or MDCI Rose di Siwa and my best rose standby, Hermessence Rose Ikebana.  Tom Ford Fleur de Portofino has become a new favorite love.  It’s everything you want for a go-to summer perfume.  Atelier Pomelo Paradis doesn’t get much talk but it is so tart and summery perfection, it’s great for those uber-hot days when you just want to be naked except for your perfume. I’ll second Ann’s Frederic Malle Eau de Magnolia summer fave and add in Frederic Malle Cologne Indelebile as a joyous summer orange blossom scent that is perfect.  Then a last-minute add – Kilian Lemon in Zest – the Lugano, Switzerland, boutique exclusive.  I was hoping for something light and summery, and it’s that, but it’s got some base note heat to go with it.

Tom’s 2015 Pix:

Well, I will admit that I have a few loves, new and old. I am loving Roxana Illuminated’s Figure 5 Bois for it’s smoky, almost chewy goodness. A standby is Annick Goutal’s Eau de Sud, a lovely citrus chypre that’s criminally overlooked. One summer bargain is the Barney’s house fragrance, Route du Thé, which couldn’t be more refreshing if it were served on shaved ice with a nice glug of gin..

I mainly marinate in Bvlgari Eau The Vert all summer, with the occasional foray into Y. I do love some crisp aldies and oakmoss in the humidity.

Mitsy gets some wear, too; I have a newish EdT, and find it bracing. Discovered Origins Ginger Essence, and am loving it this summer. Oh, and Jasmine Et Cigarette, also quite crisp and bracing for me.

      Hi tammy,
The Bulgari Tea range is beautiful summer wear. WOW Mitsouko, how can you ever go wrong in its loving embrace?

Never go wrong! I had an old school friend come to visit this week; she had asked me about perfumes, and of course I let her have free rein of all mine. She chose Mitsouko! I was amazed and so proud of her.

Second choice was Party in Manhattan, followed by vintage Emeraude. Girlfriend has some serious perfume instincts, amirite?!

        • Portia says:

WOW! She really likes the good stuff. I feel a new club member just fell down the rabbit hole.
I bet you had a ball showing her your collection.

I recently discovered Divine L’Infante, and I find that it’s girly white floral charm is perfect for summer. And I will wear Bulgari Pour Femme in any weather. Both of these have a strong mimosa component. There is a mimosa for every season.

    • Portia says:

HA! There IS a mimosa for every season MariaB,
I love that line and may steal it.

L’Infante is one of my faves, and I’m so glad to see someone else loves it, too! I also wear Pour Femme a fair bit, though not necessarily in the summer. I need to remedy that!
