Esperanza the Perfume Fairy Godmother
Hey, it is time again for the Perfume Sample Fairy Godmother for September 2015. So here’s how Fairy Godmother works – this post will be open for the entire month of September 2015. I’ll start a new one at the beginning of October 2015. For those of you new or that need a reminder of how this works – in comments you can list one or two things that you are yearning for and can’t seem to get – a perfume sample is the easiest wish to grant for me. Or you can wish for a full bottle, decant, vintage perfume or discontinued perfume you can’t find. If someone has it and can help you out, they can reply to you in comments and then you can arrange to go offline through e-mail to work things out. Please don’t post e-mails in comments unless you spoof them somehow, like this – patty at perfumeposse dawtcawm (spelling the dotcom at the end that way prevents robots from finding it as easily). Caveat Emptor and all that, don’t send people money, check out their references on MUA or Basenotes or the Facebook groups before you send something in a swap, if you wind up doing a swap. We have some amazing Fairy Godmothers that show up every month, granting wishes right and left. If you’ve been the recipient of some kindness, do give back when you can. I know people have gotten wishes granted, and every month they comb through the posts trying to find one or two people they can help out, and it just makes my heart happy. If it’s a gift, send away. I should note that it’s more likely that a Fairy Godmother will happen along if you are a fairly regular commenter on The Posse and people recognize your name. I’ll sometimes play Perfume Posse Fairy Godmother and go through the list and grant some perfume sample wishes. I’ll pick from ones that nobody has been able to help with – I’ll spin my random.org wheel – and send them The Precious.

I almost didn’t find this post. It seems I am late to join the party, but still… I wanted to say that I think it’ been a wonderful thing and
I hope the fairy business will keep going. I have immensely enjoyed getting scented presents from fairies and being myself one.
I have also a wish, now that I think about it. I would love to try anything feminine from Bond no 9. When I say feminine, I mean
flowers, grass, meadows, powdery smells and herbs. Never tried that type of scents from that house. Thank you. I am at

I have only been into perfume less than a year. I don’t even know what to call it, scent, fragrance, fabulousness? It was this site that got me interested and that led me to perfume samples, Surrender to Chance, Perfumed Court and Luckysent, etc.
I now subscribe to this post, Kaufkesque, APJ, and a couple more.
For me, being in the northern hemisphere I read all of these posts but I don’t really have time to respond because of the busyness of summer. I know that you have subscribers from all over the world, but I wonder if that is part of the drop off. People being too busy in the summertime?
Since I have been visiting this site I have had three wonderful fairy godmother’s. At this point I feel a bit too greedy to ask for anything else and I don’t have quite enough to share. But I keep buying samples, and soon I will! I would love to see this continue.

I check this every month but actually have difficulty finding it again a week after it’s posted. Maybe someone can describe a shortcut (short of adding a comment to get notificationnof future comments – this clogs up my in box). I am also hesitant to mail during the summer although I have made exceptions. Overall, I think PFG is a wonderful community service and I would like to see it continue.
Good point… perhaps if the link were permanently on the front burner, so to speak, it might get more visits.
I know I am late to this post, but I would be so sad to see this go away! I have definitely posted with less frequency this month, as things have just been super crazy, but I think it is so wonderful. Maybe just with reduced frequency. As many others have commented, sometimes you need to stockpile a little. I always check, but lately I haven’t had any of the fragrances people are asking for, and it does seem there have been fewer posters.
Yeah, I am late, too, and about freaked thinking I missed out! I’m stockpiling since my last give-away, and want to do another one…but gotta catch up on some other mailings, first. Good to see you again, and everyone else too! 🙂

I’ve enjoyed the PFGM and do check it even if I can’t think of what I want and can’t accommodate specific requests. I think it dwindles at times because people need to accumulate more reject samples, myself included. I’ve benefited both from pruning my own stuff and also received some requests and even some unexpected reciprocation from people to whom I’ve donated. So, I don’t see the harm in keeping it going even if some months are less attended than others.
I like the fairy godmother post and I do read it every month. I just haven’t been able grant any wishes in a while because what people have wanted, I don’t have. I haven’t asked for anything either because I hate to seem greedy. I say keep it going even if people use it more as a reverse fairy godmother thing to pass on stuff they no longer want. I think summer is a tough time for people to read blogs and I think a lot of us don’t really want to ship perfumes in summer heat either. I know I don’t do it if I can avoid it. The thought of a vial of very expensive juice roasting in a mailbox for hours makes me cringe.
This is me as well, I haven’t had what someone wants for months now but I always check in. I would hate to see the feature go completely but maybe every other month? With a reminder earlier in the week that hey, Perfume Fairy Godmother is coming up on Thursday or whatever? A little advance promo might get people thinking about what they want, or have to offer. Just a thought.

Hi all! I have enjoyed PFG, hope you’ll keep it going. Or maybe something similar… a ‘Pay It Forward’ feature sometimes perhaps? I did notice that it’s been slower lately, but I figured it was just summer, vacations and all that. Anyway, I have gotten to try some scents not readily available at sample sites — and I’ve made several new friends — and I’ve enjoyed sending my outcast samples on to new (hopefully more appreciative) homes.
In that vein, I have samples to give away (US only please, contact me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 in the land of ggggmail):
1. A full (I think) set of Arquiste samples
2. A whole bunch of Heaven’s Alchemy samples (more than a dozen)
3. Half a dozen or so Andy Tauer samples (Zeta, Noontide Petals, Reverie au Jardin, etc)

I love this post, too, and like Connie I especially miss the Perfume Posse note guides. I would be very sad to see the Fairies go, and I like the regularity of it. I think it would help to post it right on the first of each month.
There are lots of other places to offer freebies, and I guess I’ve ended up there most of the time lately, but I think that each venue captures a slightly different selection of people and it would be a shame to lose this one.

I always check to see if I have anything anyone is looking for, because it’s so much fun to be able to share, but I myself have reached the stage of not needing too much more. I know other’s are probably right about there, too. I like the idea of keeping it monthly, not the least because it might give you a break from having to come up with something!
I do have a request this month…. I have drug a friend down the rabbit hole ( so gratifying!) and she is sniffing madly everywhere she goes. She took a quick spray of Armani Prive Rose D’Arabie at a duty free shop somewhere in July, and loved it, but because I have told her all about the decanters, she didn’t want to pull the trigger without further testing, …. and of course now I can’t find it anywhere, nor has she seen it at any department stores.
Does anyone have a sample or decant they don’t like, or suggestions as to similar fragrances?

I would be sad to see this go. I don’t know why interest has dropped. I have had 2 rude rotters which almost made me stop. I usually look to see if I have anything that’s wanted. A couple of times I’ve responded to offerings. I haven’t asked for anything because I usually, eventually, order my own samples.
That being said, how about I start off. I would love to try any Olivine sample and/or Puredistance Opardu.

I agree with AllGirlMafia! I like to check here to see if there are wishes that I can grant, even though I don’t have the biggest collection in the world. I do have enough that I feel bad asking for more…sometimes 🙂
When I was first breaking into perfume this post was a friendly and inexpensive means for trying new fragrances. I have so much now that I rarely reach out for anything new but I think its great that this is here for any curious newbie who may find it and eventually when I sample most of my collection I will post here to gI’ve my unwanteds away.
For several months at least this has petered out. Much less wishes granted, much less posts late into the month. Perhaps quarterly? Or maybe it’s course has run out all together. It’s definitely changed from the excitement and exhanges of the early days of the Godmother wishes. Is it a case of all good things must come to an end? 🙂
I think there is so much to do during summer that posts naturally die off a little; for me, I wait anxiously for the Perfume Fairy Godmother posts!! I’ve met THE most wonderful friends here and have continued on outside of PP…we email, send samples, and check in one another. My vote is to keep things the way they are and see how much the interest picks up this fall. PLEASE don’t end it! 🙁 I have some I want to spray forward and really love the exchanges and friendships.
I’m not sure what would be best. I’ve noticed the responses dwindling but I’m afraid that if we space them further apart people may lose track of when they’re coming up and we may lose some posters…
Maybe if you brought back more of people’s favorite features, the website might get some more attention? I’ve noticed fewer reviews for the last few months and I really miss the note guides, though I’m sure they’re a lot of work.
I notice a lot of the same names chiming in every month for these posts. We have such an amazing and incredibly generous community here on PP, but to avoid “godmother burn-out”, maybe it’s time to reduce the frequency? Maybe once per season would give us more time to accumulate samples that we can then “pay forward” in a few months after we’ve had a sniff.
