Cologne Nocturne by Le Galion 2016

Hi there Posse, Cologne Nocturne was released last year by a company that is not getting enough attention. Le Galion is a recreation of a historic fragrance house that made fragrances for many of the top designers of the time, including the revered house of DIOR. Now owned and run by my buddy Nicolas Chabot who is 100% passionate about delivering incredible, beautifully crafted fragrance to the world. Modern versions of the historic beauties like Sortilege and Snob and brand new fragrances that have a definite historic bent.

Cologne Nocturne by Le Galion 2016

Fragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, lemon, palisander rosewood
Heart: Clary sage, rosemary, thyme, lavender, spicy notes
Base: Cedar, patchouli, woody notes

Cologne Nocturne open citrus sweet and herbal. Bergamot and lemon are sweet rather than tart but the sweetness is softer than most modern perfumery, I get very little pith or creaminess. The herbaceous vibe flies deeply in the heart with a cleansing lavender swirling around and through. A very traditional opening, attractive and clean yet perfectly produced and blended.

Then Cologne Nocturne warms through slightly and maintains its sweetness, the sweetness of citrus not sugar. Woods play happily in the base and the patchouli is smooth, almost creamy.

Cologne Nocturne smells super expensive and luxe, more depth and warmth than I expect from cologne, loads of fragrant twists and a sweet heart. You want to smell nonchalant but magnificent? This is a fragrance that doesn’t try too hard, smells like you are comfortable in your skin and don’t need to be making bold statements or to challenge your sense of smell.

The men of Le Galion, here I am with Enno Ebels and Nicolas Chabot. Handsome men who make yummy frags.

I buy my Le Galion direct from the Le Galion site where they ship to the world. From €9/6.5ml miniature! I paid €140 for my 100ml.

Do you know Le Galion at all?

I hadn’t heard of this brand before, but they sound amazing! Thanks for this post.

  • MrsDalloway says:

Sounds lovely! I have FBs of the reissues of Eau Noble and Whip, a vintage EDT of Megara and an eye out for Sortilege. If M. Chabot is your friend, could you suggest he brings Megara back? It’s gorgeous and I’d love a big spray bottle.

I do! I have 2 FBs: Iris and Sortilege, both from Twisted Lily. I wanted to get the Discovery Set but by the time I became aware of the Le Galion brand, the set was out of stock.

    • Portia says:

      Hiya Hajusuuri,
How lovely are the Twisted Lily guys? So friendly and helpful.
NICE choices on Iris & Sortilege. Yeah, the Travel set is YUM and comes with a super cool metal bottle holder.

I *don’t* know Le Galion at all, but they sound exactly like my kind of thing — contemporary perfume with a strong vintage aesthetic. Will definitely have to seek out some samples!

    • Portia says:

      Hey HeidiC,
Good luck grabbing them. I think the Le Galion site still has that travel set and they send to the world.

I covet Sortilege! I noticed it is out of stock at Twisted Lily in US sadly and would love to have a bottle. Thank you for mentioning the Le Galion site and introducing the perfumers. I love vintage fragrances and the history; so thrilled these men are creating fragrances from their perfume house!

    • Portia says:

      Hey Kathleen,
You’re welcome. It’s wonderful that the Le Galion guys post to the world. Makes everything easier.

This sounds delicious. Is it unisex, or more importantly could a woman wear it? I like wearing some “men’s fragrance” but some skew a bit too masculine for me.

    • Portia says:

      Hi BevFred,
There is no denying that Cologne Nocturne skews quite masculine but I think it very wearable by both sexes and that women will bring some extra light to it.

I am not familiar with this delightful sounding fragrance. I’m going to see who carries it near me! I must take a sniff!!

    • Portia says:

Hey Monika, I think you’ll like the brand a lot. Come back and tell me when you get some on you.
