Autumn Ambers for Fall 2017

Hey there Northern Hemisphere Posse Peeps. You guys are in the thick of fall. We call it autumn and I thought Autumn Ambers a better opening gambit. Here are three of my all time favourite amber fragrances. Hopefully in the comments you’ll leave your faves and whether you’ve tried mine, or if they talk to you in notes and feeling.

Autumn Ambers for Fall 2017

Autumn AmbersFragrantica

Ambre Céruléen by Huitième Art

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Sandalwood, opoponax, tonka bean, lemon verbena, powdery notes

Pierre Guillaume makes interesting perfumes, he has a particular flair for sweet and manages to make sweet comfortable. It’s never cloying or overdosed and often has some quirky note that gives the sweetness a base to hold onto or a foil to alleviate it. In this Autumn Amber he uses lemon verbena, a minty lemon grassy scent, to keep Ambre Ceruleen interesting and stops the glugginess. One of my favourite fragrances he has created I’m onto my second bottle.

Autumn AmbersFragrantica

Queen of Hearts by Queen Latifah

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, green notes, cinnamon, plum
Heart: Egyptian jasmine, red fruits, white flowers
Base: Amber, musk, patchouli, vanilla, olibanum, incense

Still available for next to nothing on the discounters but becoming harder to find lately. Queen Latifah seems to have had a hand in the process of her celebuscents because both of them are good. Queen of Hearts is a particularly good Autumn Amber because the amber and resins are presented with spicy citrus, white flowers and plenty of air. Not a sheer fragrance exactly but it does seem to be spacious and casual, rather than the ultra hefty winter weight ambers.

Autumn Ambers Fragrantica

Ambre Russe by Parfum d`Empire

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Champagne, Vodka
Heart: Ambergris, Coriander, Cumin, Tea, Cinnamon
Base: Leather, Vanilla, Frankincense

OK, this one is on the heavier and more treacle thick side but its booziness and tea lift it far above most of the available ambers into a realm its own. What Ambre Russe most reminds me of is pipe tobacco that my grandmas second husband Jim used to smoke. There was something alcoholic and resinous about it, and he would smell of it right through his clothes and hair. Not for the faint hearted this Autumn Amber is for perfumistas who are ready to rock.

So what’s your autumn Amber?

    I do love Cuir Ottoman!

  • rosarita313 says:

I have not heard of Queen of Hearts but quite enjoyed the original Queen so that sounds worth a try. Ambre Russe is one of my all time favorite perfumes ever and I also love Ambre Sultan and other amber to burrow in; this year I want to add En Voyage Captured in Amber to the mix. I would also love to find a bottle of Rochas Absolu somewhere, it was a really nice, not overly heavy amber in a great kitschy bottle.

  • Shelley says:

Is Amber Gris the same as Ambre Grisea?

  • Cindy Watson says:

Ambre Russe! I love this scent, as well as Cuir Ottoman. Two of my all-time favourite, must-have perfumes.

  • ElizabethC says:

I am really enjoying Andy Tauer’s Amber Body Oil. Very, very lovely.

  • malsnano86 says:

I am not really an amber kinda gal, and can’t really say why.

That said, I did rather like my sample of BK Amber Oud (so silky!) and the one of PdE Cuir Ottoman (super ambery and not-so-leathery on me). And my darling Alahiiiiine is a gorgeous floral amber, but I won’t get that out until Christmas. That’s probably it for my amber preferences.

I’m wearing Organza Indecence and beloved Tabac Aurea and Coty Chypre since it FINALLY got cool last week.

  • HI Portia. Love Ambre Russe – need to get a bottle of that one. One of my other favs is Ambre Fetiche from Annick Goutal with a touch of incense that gives it a bit of a kick. Do like Amber Absolute as well. There are a lot of good ones to choose from. I nearly forgot O’Hira from SHL777, how could I forget that one. Divine but uber pricy. I tend to give it a good spray when I encounter it in a store. x Megan

  • I love Ambre Russe, not familiar with the others. Lubin’s Akaad, Amouage’s Opus VI and Arabian Oud’s Kalemat are my Autumn jam.

  • Maya says:

I periodically sample ambers. Many are OK but they don’t get me excited. I do like Masque Milano Tango a lot and there may be a FB in the future. I love the rum in it and it also has a note that is always there in the background on my skin but that makes the perfume for me. I think it’s the melilotus. I really really like it.

  • Kathleen Smith says:

I adore amber in fragrance, thank you for the suggestions! My favorite so far has to be Tom Ford Amber Absolute. I’m going to take it out of the Armoire this evening and wear it as I take my pup on our evening walk. Bliss!

  • tfk31 says:

I am trying to picture a lemon mint note in an amber !!
My favourite Ambers are Ambre D’or by Il Profumo and Amber Vanilla by Regina Harris. One super sweet, and the other not at all.

  • Musette says:

I call it Autumn as well – always have. Alas, I am not a fan overmuch of amber perfumes, though the one I DO love for this time of year is Ambre Grisea. And I’mo wear it this very day, since you recalled it to me. xoxoxoxo to you, darling!

  • MELISCENTS says:

I’ve been wearing Halston Amber for women A LOT lately. This scent seems to have flown under the radar but I think it’s gorgeous. It has just a touch of the medicinal that cuts the sweetness. Perfect for the cooler weather.

  • JH says:

I don’t think I’m a fan of amber notes, but if you like amber do check out Nicolaï’s Ambre Cashmere Intense!

  • HeidiC says:

I’ve only tried Ambre Russe, which seems like an amber oriental crossed with a Russian leather. My faves are Ambre Narguile (the Nazghul!!!!!) and MDCI’s Les Indes Galantes — does that count as an amber?

  • AnnieA says:

Ambre des Merveilles is lovely and long lasting. Two spritzes last all day and that is unusual for Hermes.

  • MMKinPA says:

Amber is one of my favorites. Ambre Precieux, Ambre 114 and Alahine are all part of my regular autumn rotation. I have a small decant of Ambra Aurea when I want something darker. The Pacifica is nice too, sometimes give that a little spray at bedtime.

  • Mariann says:

I have tried Ambre Russe but dont know the other two. My favorite ambers are: Pacifica Spanish Amber, Eau de Merveilles and Ambra Aurea.
