NYC New York City by Santi Burgas 2019

Hi there Posse. Today we look at a new adventure realised by Santi Burgas in their new Primal waters series. An NYC New York City sample came from my mate Jakub with some other fun stuff from the brands he works with. This brand has produced a really cool line up already so whenever they have new stuff I always want to get my nose across it.

NYC New York City! One of the coolest, funnest, most frantic and magical places on earth. I’ve only been a couple of times but it delivered in spades both visits. In 1999 I stayed with mates, one who is a journalist there still, he had access to everything from politics to parties. Then in 2014 we were there for Thanksgiving week and my BFF Kath’s 40th, stayed at the Roosevelt right next to Grand Central Station and walked, metroed and bused so much of Manhattan. We caught up with the NYC frag crew too. Amazing visit! So whenever the city is mentioned I get a little frisson of excitement and flutter of memories.

How Does It Smell?

Sparkling citrus, bright, sweet and energetic. A few moments in and the soft, fluffy texture of pith joins in with a lovely green smoothness. Makes me think of a beautiful, sunny spring day in Central Park, full of readers, picnickers, wanderers and lovers. So much to do and see yet and underlying peacefulness.

Moving into the heart the zing of ginger comes to the fore and the musky vegetal scent of ambrette (I think I might be hypernosmic to it, fortunately it’s a favourite) twine beautifully with the clean and clear jasmine. Still lovely hints of the citruses floating through. The heart is warmer and cosier, making NYC New York City wearable in cool or even cold weather. It would be a fabulous foil against the harshest winter conditions, and could easily be a dark mood dispeller. Do any of you suffer seasonal affective disorder?

While being full of citrus, all the way through, I’m loathe to call NYC New York City a citrus fragrance. It’s more. Deeper, fuller, and much longer lasting than most citrus-centric offerings. It has a few interesting twists and managed to stay refreshing and well as comforting. That’s a fairly wide spectrum. I like it a lot. Definitely feels like it captures the energy, family, fun, zealous work ethic and disparities of NYC.

If you had the choice, how would NYC New York City smell to you?

I’ve never been to NYC – it’s on my list – and if it smells at all like this perfume I can’t wait to get there!  This sounds amazing ( and a good reminder that I need to make it into The City soon!)

      Hey MaggieCat,

      You will LOVE NYC!
My personal favourite visiting time is winter. There’s something so special about it then.

Goodness!  That sounds terrible!  LOL!  I KEED!  It actually sounds delightful!  I love a citrus with some later-on depth and sparkle!

NYC is so many different smells (Liz Zorn’s Violets and Rainwater is one of my favorite NYC scent definers – a pot of violets overturned on a rainy pavement in NY) – but your amazing description here might put this in that pantheon, as well!
