SOTD 27.3.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 27.3.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

This morning I wore a drenching of Maison Margiela Promenade in the Garden to the supermarket- grocery shopping is more than ever a dispiriting experience these days, so I wanted to smell pretty and fizzy, even if the reality was very different.. longevity sucks, but it lasted til the checkout..?

  • Melanie says:

ELDO Marquis de Sade for me today. Happy Friday 🙂

  • Brigitte says:

I have been thunking samples all week.
At night eight sprays of Pour Un Gimme. I have a 200 ml bottle from pl67 so I can be generous. It’s growing into a HUGE love. Might not share it with Mr Marzipan anymore. 🙂

    • Portia says:

YAY! Pour Un Gimme is the BOMB! I nearly spritzed it tonight after my bath but hit the Songes, and I can still smell the First extrait on my wrists from earlier today. Interesting combo when I put my wrist right up to my nose..

  • Neva says:

Today I took one of my vintage babies out of the fridge 🙂 Jil Sander III – a woody oakmoss bomb, my preciousssss

    • Portia says:

      Precious indeed!

    • lee says:

Ooh Neva, you smell sensational- can you tell me a little more about this one? Any galbanum? x

      • Neva says:

I don’t smell any galbanum, but in the beginning think Fidji by Guy Laroche – aldehydes and hyacinth, only then JS III gets drier, slightly bitter, more in the direction of Jean Louis Scherrer.

    • Ann says:

Oooh– lucky you! Such a great scent! I so treasured my samples of it, back in the day!

  • Melanie says:

Beaufort London’s Coeur de Noir for me today. Only a few sprays as it’s possibly a bit much for the office? Oh well, its sitting pretty close on me and no one has commented. Mind you, we not sitting close to each other and doors are open for fresh air.
I don’t get any paper, ink or vanilla just a big ol’ smack of birch tar and a hint of leather. I’m liking it a lot.

  • Cassieflower says:

    Aromatics Black Cherry

  • Ann says:

It’s chilly, rainy and boring here, so I am amping things up with several spicy vanillas, including Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille and Le Labo’s Vanille 44 with its incense kick. Hugs to everyone and stay safe!

    • Portia says:

      Oh Ann,
You’ve gone VANILLA CRAZY! I bet you hit some Havana Vanille too.
      Portia xx

      • Ann says:

Oh, yes, grooving on the Havana too! You’re right — I have gone ’round the bend with my vanillas this past week or two. Had to apply for unemployment this week (so frustrating — grrrr!) and needed some heavy-duty comfort. I know my poor DH is glad I had them, ha! Hugs!

  • Cassieflower says:

Tauer Amber Flush. With Amber flash on top. Yep. Very fragrant here.

  • Brigitte says:

    Eau Sacree

  • Melanie says:

Working from home today so in my little office of one, I’m wearing Zoologist Hyrax (left arm) and Moth on the right.
Moth is the winner. Think they would both enjoy a little warmth, rather than the cool of the spare room, but Moth is really interesting. I wore some T-Rex couple of Saturdays ago and enjoyed this one too.
Also wondering, has anyone tried Turkish Leather or Morah by Pryn Parfum?

    • Portia says:

Turkish Leather is a name I could get wholeheartedly behind Melanie. I wonder if it smells as good as it sounds?
      Portia xx

  • Cassieflower says:

    Samsara, and lots of it.

  • Neva says:

Tiempe Passate by Antonia’s Flowers today. My big love. I needed something uplifting and ended up realizing that it actually makes me nostalgic…

  • Brigitte says:

    What About Pop

  • Cassieflower says:

Got caught up in stuff and forgot last couple of days. Yesterday I was in copious amounts of Champagne. Today it’s Rose & Cuir. Great stuff altogether. How’s everyone doing? I discovered the joys of Houseparty last night. Heaps of fun.

    • Portia says:

      Cassieflower,
You are my perfume inspiration this afternoon. Rose & Cuir it is. MMM
      Portia xx

    • Neva says:

Top choices, Cassie 🙂 Rose&Cuir is also my latest love.
Recovering from the earthquake shock, having panic attacks for the first time in my life, but otherwise, slowly establishing my isolation routines. Houseparty? Please elaborate…
I’m having group chats on Skype, Messenger, Whatsup etc with my friends and it’s the best part of the day at the moment.

      • Cassieflower says:

Isn’t R & C just gorgeous in a simple, uncomplicated way. I hope you’re keeping up the spirits with your friends to help you recover from your shock. Houseparty is an app, video chat with as many people as you can see on your phone screen. Pretty much the same as WhatsApp video. It’s a bit of fun to have chats when we can’t get out to socialise. And we’re both social animals, I know.

        • Neva says:

Ah, so you’re doing the same 🙂 Great! Yes, it means a lot to me in this situation.
This too will end and then….

        • Portia says:

Is anyone using ZOOM? That’s what I’ve got. We could do a Perfume Posse chat?

          • Neva says:

No, but someone mentioned it recently in the Corona times. I must check it out. That would be great 🙂

  • Ann says:

Howdy!! I’m clinging to my uber-beautiful scents today: Guerlain Joyeuese Tubereuse on one wrist and Carnal Flower on the other. Hang in there, everyone!

  • Brigitte says:

    Ederantler

  • Sonomavelvet says:

I woke up to a howling blizzard this morning. It made me want to stay warm and cozy so one half of me is wearing 4 spritzes of Dior Addict. mmmm vanilla spices.

  • Erica says:

Today I wore Under The Lemon Tree by Maison Margiela as it was a lovely 30c odd here today – a lovely Autumn day. Pity the fragrance lasts all of 5 minutes on me but maybe others can smell it long after I can. Such a pretty scent but my most disappointing fragrance in terms of longevity.

  • Brigitte says:

    CDG Copper

  • Tanja says:

Yesterday i wore Chypre Siam, today lots of Coriandre. Thankfully its sunny today, so we at least can go in our allotment garden. Meeting friends is no more allowed, so lots of phone calls with my family, which live 3h apart.

  • Portia says:

Tonight is our last crew dinner before the super lockdown. It’s Jin, Kath, Alice and I. We have been the only constant companions for each other up till now. The only one of us not working/living in isolation is Jin.
I’ getting the house ready today. Wearing Madame Rochas vintage EdC. Beautiful aldehydic floral top/mossy chypre base.
    Portia xx

    • Neva says:

So sorry for the super lockdown :-/ what does it mean exactly?
Madame Rochas is so powerful. Thanks for reminding me of it, I have a 5 ml mini in the fridge and I’ll wear it tomorrow.

      • Portia says:

        Neva,
I think we might be confined to our suburbs. It will mean the girls can’t visit anymore.
YAY! Enjoy your Madama Rochas day.
        Portia xx

  • Brigitte says:

    Slowdive
An early birthday present from Tara C

    • Portia says:

      Isn’t Slowdive amazing Brigitte?
I bet you smell divine in it.
      Portia xx

    • Neva says:

Oooh, nice. I love the notes. Can you describe it a bit?

      • Brigitte says:

It’s super sweet on my skin which tends to amp up sweet notes….must be all the sugar I eat 🙂
        Very realistic on the honey
I like it but don’t feel as though I need it in my collection. Kathleen loves it so I am sending her what’s left in my sample.

  • Sonomavelvet says:

Being in isolation has led me to bring out the big fumes and possibly crazy combinations because I don’t need to worry about anyone else’s olfactory sensibilities. Now it know I might sound like a strange combination but I have SSS Incense pure wafting from my left wrist and PdN’s Neroli Intense wafting from my right. I often wear one thing on one side and another scent on the other side but not often with perfumes with such a big sillage. It’s so fun, If I bring one hand or the other closer to my nose I get one scent really and if I have both of them close I do get a mingling of both. I thought it would be total fumivation because they are both so strong but I think it works. It kind of seems to be keeping my nose from going into ‘I can’t smell it anymore mode’ Either the constant changing is keeping the respective scents new to my nose or they are just so strong that my nose can’t get too accustomed. Either way I’ve having fun

  • March says:

My office has gotten kicked fast-forward into doing some Zoom seminars, we have one this afternoon with a VIP and I’m hella nervous. I literally have my dogs sitting here with me lol. I’ve put on a dab of Mitsouko extrait for emotional support.

    • Portia says:

      HA! March,
If Mitsouko can’t get you through this then nothing can.
ZOOM is fun and terrifying. We tried to do online trivia with a bunch of players but it descended into KAOS! Only the loudest got attention, others were relegated to the dark.
How did it go for you guys?
      Portia xx

  • rosarita says:

Wearing Robert Piguet Baghari today and realized that it’s an excellent scent for the transition from winter to spring. Plus the sleek black RP bottles are beautifully elegant.

  • Musette says:

it’s a cool, misty day here, so I decided to embrace my inner rootiness, wearing Iris 39 body lotion with Delrae Mythique perfume. WOWZA! It’s a Spring Rootfest over here! Love it in the cool, wet weather! xoxoxo

    • Neva says:

Delrae Mythique – I think I got my tiny sample from you some years ago 🙂 I liked it a lot, it reminded me of J’ai Ose from Guy Laroche (the vintage one, of course). It’s discontinued now, right?

      • Brigitte says:

Oh my goodness! I was just eyeballing J’ai Ose extrait on a discount site!! Wouldn’t blind buy though. In fact, am very much on a strict no buy because our economy is not looking good.
Do you have it, Neva? Do you like it? It’s been compared to Opium.

        • Neva says:

Be careful, Brigitte. The version of J’ai Ose that is still widely available is NOT similar to the vintage one. The vintage has Guy Laroche written on the bottle/package. I bought a mini of the current version ca. 5 years ago and I literally threw it away. The old one is thick and creamy and so yummy! It’s not as sweet as Opium and heavier on patchouly, which is an advantage IMO.

    • Portia says:

MYTHIQUE!! Musette, you smell amazing. What a shame Parfums DelRae closed. Wit was on my list and now it’s gone forever.
      Portia xx

  • Dina C. says:

Wearing Narciso in the white cube today. It’s a powdery soft gardenia. Very calming and comforting. Lovely.

    • March says:

Man, I love that. I keep waffling on buying it and you’re making me want it all over again.

      • rosarita says:

I feel the same way because Dina C and another MUAer who’s a scent twin both love it but there are other things I want, too.

    • Portia says:

      Hey there DinaC,
You smell wonderful. I’m a fan of that white cube too. Simple and luxe.
      Portia xx

  • Cara says:

MAC Naked Honey – down to my last drops but still loving it!

  • Neva says:

On top of the Corona thing, last Sunday a terrible earthquake hit my hometown, so #stayathome became #runoutforyourlife. I wasn’t able to wear any perfume for a few days because I didn’t want to associate anything with the horror I’ve been through. Since then I’m in a constant state of anxiety for the first time in my life, the aftershocks weren’t helping either…
Today I’m starting to celebrate life again wearing Gucci Rush which I can always smell on myself and I realize how much I missed perfume. It’s the little things in life… 🙂

    • Musette says:

Holy snakes & cabbage! I am SO happy to hear you’re okay – being run out of your home (the place we associate with security/safety) must be terrifying (I was in a teeny tremblor on the New Madras fault and it scared the snot out of me). I’m thrilled that you are able to wear perfume again – and if anything can dispel the horror, it’s Gucci Rush! stay safe! xoxoxo

    • rosarita says:

Neva, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with all the heavy stress at once! Gucci Rush is reliably fun to wear, great choice for hard times. I’ll dig my bottle out in your honor.

    • March says:

Another virtual hug for you and thumbs up for Gucci Rush, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one on the planet who likes it.

    • Brigitte says:

Oh Neva, I am so sorry to hear this. Sending you hugs ????

    • Portia says:

      SHIT Neva,
      So glad you’re safe.
      Stay well.
Hugs and LOVING your Gucci Rush choice. Flamboyant in the face of tragedy. Kudos for class.
      Portia xx

      • Neva says:

Thanks dear Portia 🙂 I guess I’m among the lucky ones. Many people lost their homes… I only have cracks in the walls which will be repaired when the time comes.

    • Cassieflower says:

Glad you’re ok! There’s nothing quite like Gucci Rush, only thing is, for me it’s a going out perfume. And we can’t go out, waaahhh. We’ll count the days. Keep your chin up.

    • Tara C says:

Are you in Zagreb? I heard they got hit with a big quake. Having been through the 7.3 quake in San Francisco, I can totally sympathize. May you have no more quakes.

    • Ann says:

So sorry to hear this, Neva, but so glad you are safe and enjoying perfume again. Gucci Rush no doubt put you to rights quickly! Hugs …

  • Carolyn says:

Trying out Jake’s House by Henry Rose aka Michelle Pfeiffer’s “natural” ingredients line. Lovely neroli, not too heavy. Wondering about staying power. We’ll see!

  • Portia says:

A buddy on FB reminded me of Bellodgia again tonight so I’m wafted big glorious carnation scented gouts of gorgeousness.
Jin and I spent the day together today. Did a grocery shop, watched some TV, hung with the dogs and walked them in the cemetery park across the road in the cool grey afternoon. Pretty close to a perfect day.
    Portia xx

    • Musette says:

I was thinking about carnation today – looking for my l’Origan but settled on a funky combo!! Which I will post below. xoxoxo

  • lee says:

I wore Fidji by Guy Laroche today- an old favourite , creamy and comforting and as close as I’ll get to a tropical isle for the foreseeable future!

    • Portia says:

      Lee,
      You smell fabulous.
      Portia xx

    • Erica says:

Lee is your Fidji an older vintage or current? I used to wear it many years ago (for quite some time) and wondered if it was worth trying again. I saw it recently when I was looking online for something else. There used to be a talcum powder in a round cylinder about the size of your palm with a lovely dusting powder puff. I loved it.

      • lee says:

How I wish I’d bought an extra bottle or two in the 70s and put them away Erica- but saying that, the current version I have is almost as I remember it and well worth purchasing IMO..love the sound of the talc and powder puff, how utterly feminine!

        • March says:

I feel like there was a year or three when everyone was wearing Fidji. What a lovely scent.

        • Erica says:

Thanks Lee – I think I will have repurchase after – eeewww 45+ years 🙁 ??? Where does the time go??? It was a favourite of mine.

    • March says:

Wait…. is this OUR Lee?!?!? Hi honey!

    • rosarita says:

      You smell wonderful 🙂

  • Gina T. says:

Today I wore Anucci Dalini, Novaya Zarya Patchouli Magique and Gallagher Wicked Good.
