A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.
SOTD 8.5.2020
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.
Go To It Crew.

Shalimar Madagascar (Sha-Lemur!) and extrait by Guerlain.
I’m thinking my Guerlain week is done. 5 days, morning and night. Seriously, the rest of my collection is starting to side eye me or holler for attention as I walk in the room.
Portia xx
Good work Portia xx
I wore Possets Silver Vanilla to bed last night and can still smell vestiges this am. I seem to be craving vanilla perfumes (warm, dark, chewy, not too sweet) these days. Happy to hear the Posse’s recommendations for vanillas that would fit the bill so I don’t use up all my Havana Vanille. 🙂
Have you tried Guess by Marciano woman or Fancy Nights by Jessica Simpson? Both have a chunky dark vanilla dry down
Nope, I haven’t tried either of those!
Menard L’eau de Kasaneka, thanks to Tara C. The bottle is freaking stunning.
12 back to back Google meets today….wish me luck!
GOOD LUCK!
Vega by Guerlain.
Not much left in the bottle nowadays. One of Guerlain’s superstar beauties. A little like CHANEL No 5 but more heavily spiced, powdery and richer. Only two swipes with the stopper and I’m as fragrant as 10 spritzes of most other scents. Heaven.
Sounds lovely.
I need to hunt this one down!
Very happy right now – my sample of ELdO Rien Intense Incense and Spice Must Flow just arrived – thank you lovely postie man.
LOVING Rien Intense. It’s smoothier I feel than Rien – not as scratchy. Rather obviously, more incense. Spice Must Flow is really nice – will need to try this one alone.
OOOH! Love the idea of added incense to Rien.
WHOA! Just had the most gorgeously hot bubble bath.
Wearing a lot of Cologne du 68 by Guerlain. The richest, most syrupy cologne ever. Also my birth year so there’s that too.
Portia xx
La Chasse aux Papillon. It’s a fleeting one on me so I’ll be going hunting for some more later.
So pretty.
Just keep respraying throughout the day (inserts the smiley devil face emoji)
St Clair Scents LE spring release Pharaoh’s Passion. It’s reading sweet and musky on my skin. Glad that I got to try these before they disappear.
They sound like they’re another big hit.
They are sublime.
You need your mule 😉
Not any time soon. It’s a miracle I need.
🙁
Well, next time you are in my neck of the woods I will load you up with samples.
Does St Clair scents only make perfume for a season Brigitte?
Diane is a cow farmer who makes very expensive artisanal butter. But now she is also a perfumer. She has four original fragrances available all the time ( you have samples of three from me). Pandora and Eve are LE from the fall, I think. These two new spring ones are very small batch so she’s selling them only as 2 ml. And once the juice is gone, it’s gone. Diane is a perfectionist so she would never release 10+ fragrances at once. That’s one of the many things I love about this artisanal line. I really hope her perfume business can survive the economic turmoil in the Northeast.
One day I’m coming to visit you and we will both go see Diane, if she’d like that?
Portia xx
Yes, baby!!! You are on!!! But it would be a weekend trip to Vermont. 😉
This morning I wore ELDO Fat Electrician again, and Fils de Dieu – last little bits from some samples. Think I want to try Fats Elec again before I commit. Just now Putain des Palaces and Je Sius un Homme – like them both although Je Suis more intriguing. So thunk to my little ELdO samples. Making room for more!
Excellent. So good to get them on skin and make buy or die decisions Melanie.

Black Perfecto La Petit Robe Noire by Guerlain. When this was released I bought it retail because I fell madly in love with the black bottle. Wore it a couple of times and thought it was a very high pitched, screaming, berry/musk thing. I didn’t hate it but wasn’t a huge fan. It’s infinitely less assertive on my wear today. VERY pretty and super wearable.
Cherries, almonds and leather. SO MUCH better than I remember.
Portia xx
This evening it’s Alkemia The Highwayman. Notes per website: An irresistible mix of gentleman and bad-boy. Riding leathers, dark night air, forest oakmoss scattered across an old dirt road, fine linen lace, a trace of campfire smoke, and a pinch of gunpowder. I am really happy with this one!
LOVE the way you write perfume Carolyn.
Wearing Brigitte amounts of Nuit d’Amour by Guerlain tonight. THUNKED a big decant, maybe 3ml left.
WHOOSH!
Interestingly it smells quite like a fruity floral shampoo.
Portia xx
Holy cow!!! Another thunk!! Woo hoo!!
Welp, one of the mini Marzipans borrowed the Brit. Now I will need to buy another one ( or five , LOL) for myself. This is what happens Chez Marzipan when I wear the same scent days in a row.
Testing St Clair Scents LE spring release Song of Aubrac a gorgeous fragrance of narcissus absolute from the Aubrac region of France.
Thieving little blighters ??? (guess the emojis)
I want emojis! Who do I complain to?

🙂
I cannot tell you how many bottles I have lost because a fragrance grows on someone else in this household.
Gods…..jacka$$ autocorrect!!
OOOOOH! I love narcissus Brigitte! Does it have the feral aspects?
Portia xx
Yes but it’s also bright and sparkly with a gorgeous unctuous honeyed drydown. Also I see that there’s ambergris tincture and Indian sandalwood listed in the notes. I think you would probably love it, P. Diane’s scents have a vintage otherworldly quality about them…very different from most current offerings.
Amouage Lilac Love. And it is love. But it’s not fb love if you get my drift.
The Nasomatto turned sour on my skin…must have been the oud, which does that periodically. I’ve been decanting for a friend all night so I’m wearing about 15 scents at the moment. Reached out my hand for my honey to sniff. Her reaction…a polite cough followed by “my that’s a bit cacophonous isn’t it?” I laughed so hard I nearly peed myself.
HA!
Today Guerlain Bois Mystérieux. Resinously sweet oudhy woods. Good. Starts out quite big but settles within 15 minutes to smoky, charred woods with hints of BarBQ Sauce.
ELdO Yes I Do for me today – a lovely little floral musky number – not my usual style but I’m digging it.
Also have a tiny dab/swipe of Fat Electrician on the top of my right wrist. Re-inspired to try this sample again – it’s being more interesting this wear.
YAY for ELdO week.
I have both these in the collection. Bought Fat Electrician for Jin but he wasn’t a fan. HAPPILY rehoused in my cupboard.
Portia xx
Had a BIG perfume day today in Coco Mademoiselle velvet body oil and several sprays of perfume on top.
Yesterday was Teint de Neige.
Smelling absolutely beautiful Cassieflower xx
Whoa! You are loving your musks Cassieflower, presented so differently too.

I’m wearing a sample of Nasomatto Nudiflorum this morning, and like many of this line’s scents I’ve tried before, I’m challenged to describe it’s character and my feelings about it. Thank goodness for Lucky Scent samples so I can play around with this one for awhile before investing in a bottle with an ouchy price tag. Cause I have a feeling I’m going to ultimately love this one.
From website:
Natural. Primitive. Sensual. These are the words that Nasomatto chooses to provide, instead of a notes list, to represent Nudiflorum. One sniff and you’ll see why any notes would ultimately feel inadequate- of course, it’s driven by florals as the name might suggest, but these are bold, impressionistic, and shockingly intimate florals- brighter, lusher and more vivid than a straight-up reproduction, with a compellingly skinlike musk surrounding them, at times innocent and youthful, at others carnal, animalic and deeply seductive, eventually gaining a smoky and woodsy edge with which Nasomatto fans will be well acquainted. It’s olfactory intimacy, the kind of scent you must experience to understand its raw power and seductive tranquility. Most simply put, Nudiflorum is the kind of sensual fragrance that only Nasomatto could ever produce.
When Nasomatto get it right it’s 100% perfect. Another great thing about them is everyone has different faves.
My two are Nuda and China White. Perfection.
Portia xx
I am boring as hell and in wash, rinse, repeat mode these days. Will stick with Brit for the week.
Brigitte,
You could wear the same fragrance for a year and still not be boring.
Portia xx
Love you, my dear .
Yeah.
Love 100% returned.
X
OK all. Inspired by Melanie I’m going to wear Guerlain for the rest of the week. Starting tonight I’m just about to have a Champs Elysees bath oil bath and then I’ll be wearing the fragrance. EtD and extrait!
Portia xx
Whooo
Enjoy your week Portia xx
I’m on the hunt for a really feral growly perfume. Testing a sample of Bengale Rouge by Papillon tonight, which is almost scratching that itch.
Hah. Some of the reviews said it was really strong. Nope, I’m finding it to be a cuddly/comforting kitten rather than a scary tiger as it develops. Very softly animalic. Really digging it but not what I am on the hunt for…
Carolyn,
The growliest, most outrageously feral and fabulous fragrance I have is Oud Caravan 3 by La Via del Profumo. It is a revelation.
Portia xx
Hmmm…off to Lucky Scent to see if they have a sample!
I think it purrs rather than growls. It’s gorgeous.
I tried out my bottle of the current formulation of Vol de Nuit EdT that’s been at the back of my shelf — it’s definitely not the vintage stuff, but it’s not bad, even kind of works on a cool spring day.
Hey HeidiC,
I treat the modern VdN as a completely different fragrance. it has a much more modern, less melancholic feel for me. It’s so gorgeous but different and in a new way. (for me anyway)
Portia xx
I’m doing another house week – this week is Etat Libre d’Orange. ‘Like This’ is todays pick. I’m a little bit happy as one of my favourite online perfume places LKNU has just added ELdO to their range. Ordered myself sample of Rien Intense and Spices Must flow.
Hey Melanie,
Spice Must Flow is on my list of FB wants. It’s freaking gorgeous.
You’ve inspired me to do a week of house and I think it will be Guerlain.
Portia xx
It’s sunny but really cool here in Sydney today. I’ve got a few small errands to run this morning and then it’s house cleaning day.
Viktoria Minya Iris Hedonist Absolute. There is something in the beginning of the fragrance that is trying to trigger a childhood memory but the memory is so forgotten or locked away that I’m only getting hints, no pictures. It’s iris with the works. If you think you hate iris then this might be your gateway drug.
Portia xx
I’m wafting Chiaroscuro solid perfume from Illuminated Perfume, handcrafted by the phenomenally talented Roxana Villa. Description from her website : Chiaroscuro natural botanical perfume obtained its name from the world of painting. The term comes from Italy, referring to the tonal contrasts suggesting volume and modeling of the subjects depicted. The literal translation of the word is light-dark. The opening features a candied spicy sweetness with notes of jasmine, vanilla and chocolate contrasting the rich dark, base. There is a floral powder note in the dry down that evokes the audacious four foot wigs in Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette.
This jasmine perfume is just amazing! I can’t stop sniffing my arm.
Isn’t Roxana amazing Carolyn? Way back in 2013 I was taken to meet her and husband Greg at their house/studio in the hills past Malibu. it was a really good day and they were so lovely.
They moved since then to San something, I can never remember.
You must be smelling out of this world.
Portia xx
She lives here in my neck of the woods…Santa Fe. So I get to actually go to her studio and sniff through all her perfumes in person now. She is just so dear. And so phenomenally talented.
Happy Mother’s day!!!!
Brit on my wrists
Samsara in my hair
Smelling FINE Brigitte,
Happy Mother’s Day to you.
Portia xx
Tonight I’m wearing Guerlain Cuir Beluga. It’s such a beautiful fragrance but doesn’t smell at alll like I’d imagine Whale Leather to smell.
Portia xx
Wearing Zelda tonight’s. It’s been years since I last tried it and I like the way it’s aged!
Zelda! I remember when it was released and everyone went 100% batshit crazy for it. It came in the super cool bottle and was so cool. YUM!
Portia xx
I’m sampling: Amouage Fate Woman this morning. I like it a lot. This one has potential and it would be one of the few times Luca Turin and I agree. This evening I went with Creed Tubereuse. I like it too – very spring-like floral with tuberose. Great perfume day.
Hey Maya,
Fate woman is amazing.
I’ve not tried Creed Tuberose. Is it a sweet or green version?
Portia xx
Hey Portia,
The Creed is more green than sweet. I’ve only tried it once though. There is a camphor aspect when I first put it on but it is not mainly tuberose on me and it definitely has more than the 4 notes listed. There are other flowers in it and they’re not white ones. There’s also a fun animal that weaves through it and peaks out occasionally.
Sounds fabulous. Do you love it?
I don’t know yet, but it’s quite possible. I will have to wear it for a while. I think it would be a great warm weather fragrance.
Caleche Soie today. Lots of it.
You know Cassieflower,. I’ve still not tried this baby.
portia xx
The highlight of the week was having a safely-distanced, in-person meet-up with a perfume pal. We exchanged samples and today I am trying Dusita’s Erawan. It seems like…hay? The juice was a little treacly, so maybe the scent has changed.
So happy that you made a meet up happen even in these trying times AnnieA.
Enjoy your new stuff to try.
Portia xx
Burberry Brit perfume
OMG! I love Burberry Brit Perfume, that is the extrait version yeah? Came in a little version of the big bottle and spritzed ?? I love that shit Brigitte. It was on the discounters for a song a couple of years ago and I grabbed some. YUMMERS!
Thanks for the reminder.
Portia xx
Yes!! It’s the small 15 ml bottle. Lordy, it’s good. Been wearing it all week with Samsara in my hair. I wore Brit in the early 2000s, thunked five bottles, then forgot about it. Now she’s back!!!
You MIGHT have given me the push to unearth mine too.
:):):) hope these show up as smileys
This was in response to Kathleen.
Oh dear oh dear. I am not having a good perfume day. Tested Alkemia Supernatural – per website “An ethereal alchemy of aroma molecules including Iso-E, Ambrox, Vegan Tonkin musk.“ I’m getting tropical fruit life savers out of this one. Blergh. Another scrubber.
Tropical Fruit lifesavers sounds amazing TBH…….
Portia xx
LOL Portia. I’m going to let it rest for awhile and try on another day to see if it has grown on me.
I’ve been cleaning and reorganizing things a bit in my bedroom and woke up this morning and saw several Dame perfumery bottles still out on top of my perfume dresser. So now I’m wearing copious amounts of Gardenia on one side and Tuberose on the the other. Managed to stop short of adding Mexican Vanilla to the mix haha
I say add the BFMV 😉
100% with Brigitte on this. ADD THE BFMV!
Portia xx
Oh this is heartbreaking. I’m wearing Alkemia Lacivius, which based on description I should be absolutely over the moon about. It’s animal-friendly civet, black musk and Oud. These notes are 100% my jam. It’s supposed to “work with your own pheromone chemistry to sexualize your natural skin musks.” Apparently my phéromone chemistry thinks Pine Sol is sexy. Seriously, what the hell? I’m so mad at my skin chemistry right now!! Keep waiting for the magic to happen but nope, I’m still wafting Pine Sol. I just asked my spouse what she smells on me, she wrinkled her nose, and responded “mildew.” GRRRRR!!
“Au contraire, thanks to Pine Sol I am now COMPLETELY mildew-free!”
LOL
BUMMER!
Started the morning with Indult’s Tihota: warm vanilla hug with my coffee, almost making up for the lack of sleep before The Toddler Time began. Then Oriza Legrand’s Horizon for digging in the garden and drinking rosé and making the neighbors’ pot smoking more palatable- complementary scent spices and all that. (Seems rude to waft like a detergent aisle and not even offer to share.) My plan tonight is Van Cleef & Arpel’s Bois d’Iris: need some flowery earthiness while I commiserate on quarantine parenting with a buddy via video. I’ve been ordering samples as a novelty/variety coping device. It’s mostly working. But. I miss working for pay.
Hey Ariel,
You’ve had some beautiful perfume on. So lavish.
Please go next door and ask them for a toke, at least. Tell them it’s really mean to keep it all to themselves. Ask for some seeds and grow your own?
Portia xx
Ha ha! I’m thinking of offering them some of my mom’s tincture and brownie recipes. (Oregon hippy mom alert!) That way they don’t risk their lung health and they can still enjoy themselves…and maybe share in a safe way 🙂
You are the soul of discretion and careful good times. I love it. So will they.
Good luck.
Wearing Alkemia The Rhymer’s Club tonight. Absinthe (which I guess Is what smells a little minty?), leather and rosewood. It’s positively heavenly to this leather lover! And I can never get enough of any perfume that has oakmoss!!
From the website: The essence of debauched gentility – absinthe poured over sugar cubes in a tarnished silver strainer, lavender shaving soap, dried roses crumbing to dust, anise, rosewood, linen writing paper, wet ink, dusty old book bindings, ocean soaked dockwood, and oakmoss.
W. B. Yeats, Ernest Rhys and T. W. Rolleston founded the Rhymers’ Club in 1890 in London as an informal club for young poets and writers. The club met in an upper room at the Chesire Cheese on Fleet Street and the Domino Room of the Café Royal. The group produced anthologies of poetry in 1892 and 1894.
Carolyn,
You are always wearing really interesting stuff I’ve never even heard of. It’s a gift.
Portia xx
I have been using Jo Malone Orange Blossom shower gel to finish my shower. Absolutely lifts the spirits. Followed this yesterday with wearing Armani Prive Pivoine Suzhou. The peony is a delight. Today I think Boucheron Iris de Syracuse. It might be autumn here but I’m thinking of dry warmth. This is usually a special Occassion scent. But iso needs a lift today.
Great idea Portia.
Good on you for giving yourself a lift– YOU a special occasion! Iris always seems to both ground me and help me keep a chin up. At least one of them.
I’m always up for checking out a peony fragrance. Now I want to hunt down Pivoine Suzhou. Thanks for the description
Hey Gillie,
Go fabulous while in ISO I say.
You’re rocking the good stuff. Woo Hoo!
Portia xx
Fath de Fath parfum (1993 version). I never thought I’d fall in love with a fruity perfume. It’s gorgeous!
I adore Fath de Fath! I love this perfume, it is gorgeous and a special scent memory for me. So happy someone appreciates it!
I love it too!!! Thanks to you!!
How have I never heard about Fath de Fath Maya?
Portia xx
I am all about the Carnal Flower hair mist today. I was summer, and now it looks like it with the sun, but a cold breeze. So I’m pretending!
HA! Pretending is good Patty. Was it a perfect fit for your pretend summer?
Portia xx
well, it’s a good thing I want to because I’m wearing a vintage Coty Oulliet that I got from http://www.surrendertochance.com – This. Thing. Is. A. Beast! A gorgeous, carnation/clove BEAST! And I am here for it! I put it on last night and it nearly strangled me with it’s gorgeous aura – took a shower this morning (expected it would wash off) and it said ‘hold my beer’ – and got even BIGGER! if that’s possible.
I think I am in love.
xoxoxo
This sounds amazing!
Ariel, it is! I thought I knew every vintage Coty out there (I’ve got the Coty history book(s) and everything)… but somehow Oiellet slipped past me. Must Love Carnation, though. This is NOT for the faint of heart. xoxoxo
Good to know! And now it sounds even more exciting!
This sounds like the carnation version of Narcisse Noir — not even trying to pretend it’s sane!
WOW Musette,
Sounds like I need to head over and grab some.
Portia xx
Ormonde Woman as a way to try to lift my spirits, it’s one of my favorites. My entire household is in a slump these last few days.
Sorry to read you’ve got the lockdown blues MMKinPA,
I hope Ormonde Woman has helped you though.
Portia xx
I use perfume to get myself through the tough times, too. Hope the mood shifts for you all soon.
Miss Dior from one of what Portia calls easy lovers bottles.
YAY! Love the Easy Lovers. You can really get some perfume on yourself.
Portia xx
At night when the temps go way down in the high desert of Santa Fe I’ve been craving smoke and vanilla. Last night it was a combo of CB I Hate Perfume Burning Leaves and L’Artisan Havana Vanille. This morning I’m wearing Alkemia Bohémiens en Voyage – Tabac leaf, Orris Root, Fresh Hay, Amber, Skin Musk, Sugar Cane. This one is just perfection for me…4 of my favorite notes playing so well together…tobacco, hay, amber and musk. The sugar cane just sweetens things up a tiny bit. It’s staying in the background playing a supporting role. This is surprisingly perfect for this time of year as well. From the name, I was expecting something more “patch-like” but this is not an overpowering scent at all. In fact, might add a little more smoke or spice to “winterize” it.
You are wearing some fine fragrance Carolyn,
Portia xx
That Alkemia sounds right up my alley 🙂
I think I’m going with Iris Silver Mist today. It’s cool and breezy here this morning, but the sun is finally shining and it just feels like a good match.
OOOOH! The lovely ISM! No matter the weather you can wear it and smell gloriously cool Meggie,
YUM
Portia xx
How marvellous. I wish I could sniff ISM. Having read Gaia from the Non Blonde rapturise on this it is on my wish list. Enjoy your SOTD.
I’ve been revisiting F by…Fredericks of Hollywood. It was a bridal shower gift, and I’m now divorced, LoL. I remember being somewhat horrified when I opened it, perfume snob that I am. It’s actually very pretty and quite comforting. Kind of like cashmere pajamas. Maybe more like a$$less cashmere pajamas.
I’ve never heard of F, but love your description of it. Assless cashmere pajamas sounds like the kind of quirky I usually enjoy.
LaDona,
My very first visit to LA in the 90s included a visit and buy up at Fredericks of Hollywood. I think I grabbed 10 pairs of high plastic hooker heels, packed and shipped home to Oz.Everyone was GREEN with envy.
portia xx
It’s supposed to be freezing and possibly even snow tonight, which is crazy for this time of year where I live, so I’m feeling sulky. Wearing Poison extrait lol. At 7:42 am.
HA! Sulking in Poison Extrait! NOT POSSIBLE March.
Portia xx
Annnnnd I ended up doing a quick Target run! I’m sure they loved my fine fragrance at Target. I bet you can still smell my sillage 30 minutes later. #sillagebomb
On the front of the t-shirt: “If you can smell my perfume you are standing MUCHTOOCLOSE”
Avon Mesmerize mystique Amber. Nice and spicey.
Sounds spicy Matty. Woo Hoo you.
Portia xx
Good morning all. Philosykos today. It’s going to be another beautiful spring day. But, the fields in the village have been spread with slurry and boy does the world stink. So, I’m doing my bit to make things smell better.
Ooooh, an old favorite!
Hey Cinnamon,
What is slurry?
Makes me think of the song: A Surrey With A Fringe On Top.
Portia xx
Hey Portia, Slurry is not nice. It’s a combo of animal waste (sorry) and ‘organic’ bits, like hay, put together and spread on fields.
and the end result is fabulous! I have a sale barn at the end of my street (not road – it’s an actual street, just at the end of town). Every time they exercise their horses I’m out there with a shovel, lovin’ it! xoxox
It’s something that a townie boy like you will never have to smell. I , otoh, being a country bumpkin know that smell all too well. Ick.
I’m fresh out of the bath and slavered in Tauers Rose Delight oil. I think I’ll add some rose fragrance after the initially gorgeous rush does down.
Portia x
I’ve not smelled the rose delight. Would it mesh well with Tauer’s Phi Un Rose de Kandahar? I love that stuff.
Hey LaDona,
Phi Un Rose de Kandahar would meld beautifully with it.
Portia x
Have you got Rose Flash? An amazing combo.
No Cassieflower,
I feel like there are SO MANY rose perfumes in this room that buying another would be superfluous.
Portia x
Scent of the night is Porter’s Salve. Stuff stinks to hi heaven but it does magic on many skin ailments. Unmistakeable scent- but draws, heals and soothes like nothing else. You might have to sleep by yourself if your beloved has a significant distaste to it.
HA! Excellent first SOTD for the week Sarah.
