SOTD 26.6.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 26.6.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

Ambre Nuit by DIOR. Coffee flavoured amber and roses. So pretty and wearable.

I’ve not been posting of late. Sometime life gets in the way of the good stuff. However have made the effort today to share a delightful perfume story which I think our crew here will appreciate.
*long post alert… at my work most peeps know I love perfume. Well yesterday, ring at work on my birthday, after receiving flowers and balloons, my team gifted me a bottle of Memo Paris Irish Leather!
I nearly really cried. I recall a day in the office weeks ago when my boss asked me some perfume questions, what’s your favourite, what would you love to buy etc. I just rambled on excited to talk about one of my favourite things. He must have taken notes. Packaging is super schmick. So very flash. Still can’t quite believe it’s in my cupboard.
Then, as if it could not get any better, my own purchase of ELDO Rien II arrived and my sample of Maai, by Bogue. What a day.
Wearing Maai today and I am in love! At first I thought it’s a bit like T-Rex. Now wearing one spray on each arm they are not the same at all!! Maai is big and bold, dried fruits and incense, Rose, smooth but loud. Quite a few lelvels. Don’t get all the florals that are listed but it’s a WOW! I’ve just added another spray but even the dry down is amazing. I know the two are connected by their perfumer. Insert a happy dance!

    • Portia says:

WOW Melanie! They must really love you at work. That’s a big spend. AMAZING!
Antonio Gardoni is a lovely perfumer. His stuff is so thick, rich and layered. I can’t think of another modern perfumer that hits that style so well.
      Portia xx

      • Melanie says:

        Thanks Portia xx
I also love Antonio’s accent. Have watched a few interviews/reviews with him. He also seems quite humble and obviously takes his scents very seriously. Guess I better get my nose on Mem and OE.

    • cassieflower says:

That’s amazing! You are spoiled rotten by your colleagues and boss. Wohoo.

  • Cassieflower says:

Busy day so now that I’m in bed I can report that I was in a fluffy cloud of Narciso (the white bottle).
After my bath it’s Mugler Supra Floral.

  • Portia says:

Mohur EdP by Neela Vermeire for bed.
What a stunning fragrance, so complex and lavish.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Andy Tauer on a roll this week it seems. I’m wafting Incense Rose today. It really is lovely, I keep forgetting about this one. Might be because Paestum Rose is really very similar and somehow sits closer to the front of my perfume cabinet and my eyes find it first when I’m craving that cool rosey quietude.

  • Portia says:

During the day today I wore Ambre Ceruleen by Huitieme Art.
About to go bathe. I think it might be a Divine EdP night but will fill you in when I make the choice.
    Portia xx

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Andy Tauer’s Miriam today. All the talk about snuggling into sandalwood I’ve been reading. Sandlewood and powder heaven. Good thing it’s really strong as I have to make it last.

    • Portia says:

      Hi SV,
I bought the 10ml when they were crowdfunding the film. It sits in its paper card still awaiting my notice. How naughty is that?
      Portia xx

      • SonomaVelvet says:

Well it may be just as well dear Portia. If you finally got around to smelling it you might end up in despair that you only have 10mls and then that’s it, no more, not ever!!!
Seriously I would love to know what you think of it. I love it, and would love to know what else might be like it as I hoard my last third of a bottle.

  • Maya says:

Pugeut Visa reissue. Very nice. Yesterday I finally tried Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur. I think I’m in love, or maybe in lust! 😉

    • Portia says:

YAY! I like Visa. It’s another lovely Piguet that rarely gets mentioned. I’ve got a 10ml travel of it around here somewhere. Thanks for the reminder.
Musc Ravageur! Every time I see a bottle for sale on the FB Docs I grab it. There are currently three half used bottles around this house, all smell slightly different due to age and era.
      Portia xx

  • Cassieflower says:

Guerlain Santal Royal. Gorgeous but still can’t outshine Queen Samsara.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Cassieflower,
They’re hardly even related for me. I wear them for totally different moods.
      Portia xx

  • lee says:

Spent all day gardening in Chanel’s Cuir de Russie- then a post shower drenching of Coco Noir..think I’ve overdone it because my cats won’t come near me..fabulous winter night scent though

  • Portia says:

Caron Pour un Homme. I am all the lavender lollies. Seriously, why don’t I wear this beauty more often.
I have about 2/3 of a 125ml bottle and a backup. Enough to last me the rest of my life but I keep thinking I need more.
    Portia xx

    • Portia says:

Tonight I’m hitting the old favourite, Guerlain Shalimar EdP. Modern bottle, smells ever so slightly cleaner and fresher but that mat be the juices newness rather than a change in scent construction.

  • Cassieflower says:

Today I’m in Lilac Love. Last couple of days were spent with friends (woohooo, at last) Jazmins Marzipans and 4160 Tuesdays Clouds got an outing.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Cassieflower.
YAY for being able to see some friends again.
Amouage LOVE series are just freaking gorgeous. If they were more reasonably priced I’d have the whole set but as I had to pick one it was the Mimosa.
      Portia xx

  • SonomaVelvet says:

I think I forgot to post yesterday, now what did I where? hmmm I think it was Le Perfum de Therese, oh yes very lovely and now for something completely different (yes I watched a little Monty Python making dinner last night) Amouage Epic Woman today. ohhhhh myyy, so good.

    • Portia says:

SV! Epic Woman is so well named. You smelled beautiful.
LOVE Monty Python. I’m not a quote them all, know all the characters and movies by heart kinda guy but when the movies are on I laugh a lot.

  • Umair says:

I bought a new fragrance called “Gallany” over the weekend by ethical luxury brand “Faîr Parfum”.

The fruitiness is so apparent and is extremely pleasant. It is quite difficult to explain this scent because it doesn’t just remain the same. Throughout the day, the smell gets better and better and it seems like it’s just been applied.

As an avid buyer of fragrance, I’ve not come across a brand who has managed to perfect the art of perfumery. The added bonus is, they send you a free 8.5ml sample bottle of the opposite fragrance. I received “Royale” and I must say I am tempted to buy it! The exquisite mix of Amber and Musk is well balanced and isn’t overpowering. As they say, its a scent of “the perfect gentleman”.

  • Portia says:

Coco EdP by CHANEL. Smelling divine, MMMMMMMMM
    Portia xx

  • Carolyn says:

Trying Fantome for the first time.

Ruslan on one wrist. Description is black spruce, smokey opopanax, oud, fresh cedar, hinoki, dry fir needles, oakmoss, frankincense, black tea. According to Fantome, this is a fragrance that evokes a long journey through endless forests across ancient Russia and is inspired by the quest of Ruslan to find his wife Lyudmila. It is a warm, dry forest scent composed almost entirely of natural ingredients.

Olwyn on the other wrist. Description is magnolias, white lilies, night-blooming jasmine, and gardenias over rich, buttery vanilla, myrrh, benzoin, and a hint of orange blossom. According to Fantome, it is
named for the Welsh goddess who had lilies bloom in her footsteps, Olwyn is as delicate, sweet, and feminine as the flowers that followed her wherever she went.

If the oud doesn’t go too sour Ruslan might be a keeper. Olwyn is just a little too white flowers and a little too sweet for me.

    • Portia says:

I love how much perfume you are trying Carolyn,
Do you get much time to wear from your bottles or is it 100% testing?
      Portia xx

      • Carolyn says:

Lol…for the past couple of months I’ve been testing during the day and trying to wear some of my bottled perfume in the evenings. Just discovering indies so…yeah, I’m swimming in samples.

  • Ingeborg says:

On Sunday I started out in Mandarin Basilic and then switched to Bottega Veneta Knot in the evening. I have not worn Knot in a while, it really is pretty and easy to wear (one I bought partly because I liked the bottle design).

    • Portia says:

      Hey Ingeborg,
That Knot lid is gorgeous. I tried it in a department store when it first came out but I think there was too much else going on and I didn’t really get a feel for it.
You’ve inspired me to try it again.
      Portia xx

  • Portia says:

Secret Joly by Oriza L Legrand, a white floral bouquet backed by honeyed tobacco and soft animalics. Very retro beauty. I’m surprised it doesn’t get more attention.
    Portia xx

  • SonomaVelvet says:

After waking up in eau de campfire this morning and warming up in a hot bath I ended up with a triple threat today. Dame Perfumery Narcissus on one side, really quite amazing and Donna Karan Gold on the other… oh I’m a white flower colossus hahaha. and I’m sitting beside a huge bouquet of Mock Orange Blossoms that are highly fragrant and smell just like Orange blossoms. It’s pretty glorious

  • Brigitte says:

By the way, all my ‘fumes are safe and sound in the cool dark basement. They await the return of my obsession.

  • Cassieflower says:

Ormonde Elixir. Just a tad richer than the original, and a smidge sweeter. Not keen on the price tag though.

    • Portia says:

Those OJs have always been on the pricey side, though the rest of perfumery has caught up to the originals.
      Portia xx

  • Portia says:

LE LION de CHANEL for my first night back hosting Trivia since mid March. It was a terrific night. the room was only two people off capacity. So good to see everyone in real life again.
    Portia x

    • Cassieflower says:

Great that you’re getting back into real life again. No more lolling around like a trophy bride, haha.

    • SonomaVelvet says:

Yay Portia!!! How wonderful to be able to get back to work and to enjoy it with such success. Bravo. I so glad you live in an area that is able to open up safely to that degree. Le Lion must be a terrific scent to be chosen for such a grand occasion!

      • Portia says:

        Heya SV,
We are so lucky. It was quite well managed by our government but at least 90% of us still aren’t wearing masks in public.
LE LION is a cracker of a scent. The lovechild of Shalimar, Coromandel and Mitzah.
        Portia xx

    • Brigitte says:

I think it’s fantastico that you are back to work. What intrigued me about Le Lion is that it’s the astrological sign of two Marzipan minis. Eventually I will get my nose on it.

  • filomena813 says:

Well, the night is still young but I have already worn several perfumes today. Now I am wearing Dusita’s Le Pavillon d’Or. Every time I wear it I am in awe of its beauty. It is a most enchanting perfume!

  • Carolyn says:

Wearing a Sixteen92 sample of 1920’s film star collection perfume ? BETTE Angel food cake, floral honey, marshmallow, pistachio, French vanilla, loose black tea. This one named for Bette Davis. Very interesting scent. The black tea keeps it from being teeth achingly sweet. Not the notes I’d typically think of for Bette Davis though. And now I really want a huge piece of angel food cake!

  • Brigitte says:

Been in a very long perfume slump and haven’t really been wearing much. Enjoying scented soaps, essential oils at night post shower and my homemade patchouli lotion. I am just popping in to say hi to everyone and thrilled to see some new commenters. Be well everyone. XO XO

    • SonomaVelvet says:

Sorry to hear about your slump Brigitte. It seems like it wasn’t that long ago that we were delighting in dousing ourselves in ‘Brigitte amounts’ of scent. I’m glad you came by to say hi anyway and hope your perfume mojo comes back when it’s time for you.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Brigitte,
So good to see you. We miss you when you’re gone.
I think loads of people are stepping away from luxury in these times. It’s hard to be so lavish when the world and its people are so clearly suffering.
      Portia xx

      • Brigitte says:

I miss you too. I promise to stop in from time to time just to say hello, if that’s ok.

    • Cassieflower says:

      Hey B, I’ve missed you.

  • Carolyn says:

Testing Possets Phaeacia, from the 100% naturals line. Notes are: Texas Cedarwood, Bulgarian Lavender, Sicilian Lemon, Indonesian Dark Patchouli, French Coriander. This screams lemon and coriander at me. Hard pass.

Also testing Possets Lord Byron – She Walks in Beauty, which has a composition of black oude, musk, sandalwood, artemisia, rue, Arabian white oude, pettigrain, elimi, silk essence, and black tea. I like (not love) this one when it settles down after a few minutes but the sandalwood is a bit strong for my spouse (who’s mildly allergic) so will pass along.

  • SonomaVelvet says:

Diorissimo in the rain. Yesterday was a mad scramble to pack and get ready to go camping. After getting rained out today will be a more lethargic unpacking. Diorissimo is just so cheery, like sunshine in the rain.

  • Cassieflower says:

ELd’O Le Fin Du Monde. It must have been absorbed as I can hardly smell it, despite a reapplication half an hour after I first put it on. I will have to take a trip upstairs to seek out something else. But my good news is that my new bottle of Rose Flash arrived this morning. Yipppee.

    • Portia says:

      YAY! An ELdO snap!
Weird that it disappeared on you. Heat?
MORE ROSES! You’ll not run out too soon now.
      Portia xx

  • Portia says:

The Afternoon of a Faun by Etat Libre d’Orange. Love this honeyed immortelle, moss and incense bomb. SO GOOD!
    Portia xx

  • Maya says:

Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete today. When I first tried this one I though, “meh”. It’s growing on me though. Now I’m thinking that it’s rather nice and might make a good summer fragrance. We’ll see.

  • Amateur Dilettante says:

Spent the rainy day in a whole lotta Anima Dulcis – I smelled like a Green & Black Maya Gold chocolate bar.
Sun’s coming out this evening after a thunderstorm, my sotd has worn off, thinking about following up with some Dilettante.

  • MMKinPA says:

I’m wearing Nicolaï L’Eau Corail. Mango!

  • Musette says:

I (was) in Marc Jacobs Cucumber (atop Prairie Aromatics cucumber body lotion). 90F put paid to that with a quickness! LOL! Thunderstorms later today might mean I copy Eldarwen, post-shower. xoxox

    • Portia says:

You know I think of you when I hear or read CHANEL No 5. Quite an achievement because it was also my Mum’s going out fragrance.
      Portia xx

  • Dina C. says:

A brand new bottle for me that reflects my recent interest in Orange blossom: L’Artisan Seville a L’Aube. Really liking the resinous notes, beeswax, orange blossom and lavender. Now I want to read “The Perfume Lover,” which is all about its creation. No surprise to me it was created by Bertrand Duchaufour. I love his stuff!

    • ScentSpirit says:

“The Perfume Lover” is what sent me down the rabbit hole. For some reason, before I read it I felt like I should be embarrassed about my love of perfume.

    • Portia says:

      OMG DinaC,
The Perfume lover is SO GOOD! I bet it makes you love the fragrance even more. Denyse writes so well that you are carried along on her adventures as if you’re right there with her.
      I couldn’t put it down.
      Portia xx

  • Eldarwen22 says:

Wearing vintage no 5 edt today. Wasn’t game to spend 20 minutes for picking out a perfume.

  • cbsutcliffe says:

Jo Malone’s Orange Bitters today for no particular reason than it appealed to me.

  • Cassieflower says:

Rose Delight oil and Rose Flash. This combo lasts all day. Amazing.

  • Portia says:

LE LION de CHANEL has been unbelievably fabulous all day. Currently in a crunchy caramel amber phase nearly 12 hours later. It’s AH MAY ZING!
    Portia xx

    • Kathleen says:

Please tell me more Portia! How is it? What is it like? How did you score a bottle? xx

  • Cinnamon says:

First time I’ve worn perfume in almost 3 weeks. Pulled out sample of Une Amourette (Etat Libre) which is seriously woody. Like, that’s it on me: one of those wooden boxes you used to buy at head shops in the 1970s. Says it has vanilla. Hmmm, maybe a bit. I feel sort of agnostic about it. But I loved those boxes.
