Le Parfum Intense Eau de Parfum by Elie Saab 2013

Hiya Posse. I’ve had this Le Parfum Intense (a flanker to the 2011 OG) bottle for ages, nearly a decade. I remember my first whiff of the original. On a mature woman, just back from buying it overseas. She was attending a trivia fundraiser I was hosting. As she walked into the room the scent hit me like a tonne of swoony bricks. I may have accosted her before she even got to her table.

Before going further, you’d think a flanker would have been DCd long ago but nope, still available on the discounters like FragranceNet (not affiliated)

Fragrantica gives these featured notes:
Top: Orange Blossom
Heart: Honey Ylang-Ylang Rose
Base: Amber Patchouli

Le Parfum Intense is in the same ballpark but ever so slightly more evening wear. Also created by Francis Kurkdjian. The opening is still a symphony of honeyed orange blossom, now with a low key banana peel addition. The heft and stabilizing base is still patchouli. So you’ll feel right at home.

What happens in the heart though is the addition of ylang and amber. It reads on me early as if you’re in a dream of tropical nights. You know, the fantasy they sell you on the ads. You’re 22, slathered in some shiny oil, weigh 10 stone and have a beefy, beautiful suit in board shorts beside you? Later there is a very interesting waft that’s like cold coffee grounds. Yeah, I know that sounds ghastly. It’s not. They are points of interest and add light and shade.

This definitely skews towards what we expect feminine fragrance to be. Doesn’t matter. If you like it, wear it. Projection and longevity are excellent. Will it change your life? No. Will you smell good? YES!

I’m a fan. Have you tried Le Parfum Intense?

OMG. I loooove when perfume transports you to a fantasy – and that is DEF a fantasy I can get into.

And… no. I have not smelled this. But now I wanna. I reallly wanna.

  • Kathleen says:

I’m a fan as well of the original and Intense versions of Elie Saab Le Parfum. We agree on many perfumes! It’s the orange blossom for me, one of my favorite scents in fragrance and on the tree. I really enjoyed Francis Kurkdjian’s creations for Elie Saab. xoxo

    • Portia says:

Kathleen, we are definitely from a similar perfume tribe.
Yeah, orange blossom done well is amazing.

  • Tom says:

No, but you really make me want to, coffee grounds and all.

    • Portia says:

TOM! You would waft this sensationally.
I really wish we were neighbours. Sometimes I just want to spritz stuff on you and see how it lives.

Ooooh, this sounds RIGHT up my alley — and I don’t think I’ve tried the original! As I get older (?) I find more often what I really want is to just “smell good” — of course having a great nose make it for you doesn’t hurt! Thanks for the heads up!

  • Dina C. says:

Interesting! I didn’t know there was an intense flanker to the original Elie Saab Le Parfum, one of those rare things that I immediately clicked with and liked from the start. Thanks for the review Portia!

I was fixated on the OG & first couple of flankers for a while. The OG was a work colleague’s wedding fragrance & we went sample grabbing to pop in the female guest’s favours.
My favourite was the Intense flanker. A bit too much in high summer but perfect for the rest of the year.
I’m a Ylang ho so this banana resin version was bliss.

  • Tara C says:

The notes sound wonderful. Never tried it.

    • Portia says:

      They are wonderful TaraC,
It’s funny the things we do and don’t get our sniff on. This and the original were fairly ubiquitous for a few years.

I have been meaning to try the original Elie Saab for years — and now will add this. That notes list sounds superb.

  • Jen says:

This has been in my top five going on ten years. I never hear anyone else mention it. I think it’s just glorious
