Still Blaming Tom

Posse, my Posse! This is going to be a Quick and Dirty because …OMG! ALLMY TECH IS DOWN, save my phone…and … I just CAN’T with the drama, y’know? I remember one afternoon when Chief ( full- blooded Apache living in this town) and I were at the laundromat and I was in a snit because I WAS AT THE LAUNDROMAT! He very gently chided me for being a diva and said ‘y’know… if the grid goes down you won’t know what to do, you’re so tied in to technology’ – and he then told me about his family reservation – and I shut up quick! And I’ve tried to keep that in my memory, as I fight with my new laptop and am getting salty about Al*xa not understanding what I’m asking her… ( shrug emoji)

… but it’s still irritating.

So… why are we Blaming Tom… AGAIN? Well… he and his marvelous self was the portal to Tree Hut and since there’s nothing I love more than cheap and cheerful beauty stuff I’ve been going hard in the paint on their scrubs and creams! Their Vanilla line is actually really nice- a pronounced vanilla scent that’s more like a skin scent than a pastry. Some of the newer ones ( aquatics and difficult-to-replicate exotic flowers) are duds, but two are standouts: Tangerine…and Pineapple

Both are fresh ( not laundry fresh – just… fresh) and not overly assertive with the scent – but it’s when they’re mixed with the other note that it becomes a really fabulous trip down memory lane!

see… when I was a kid my mom would buy Pineapple-Orange juice… in a can. I loved that stuff, sweet-tart, fresh ( hey I was SEVEN! don’t judge me) and just a hint of a metallic hit.  It wasn’t until I was nearly adult that I tasted a non-canned pineapple… and to this day I still taste a hint of that metallic note, even with the freshest, ripest pineapple . The Tree Hut cream has the veriest hint of metallic… and I didn’t think I would… but I love it, like being seven again, drinking a glass of that juice at the kitchen table, sun banging through the windows on a July morning. And layering an orange soliflore ( Demeter Sweet Orange does well) over the pineapple body cream ( or the reverse – I haz options, don’tchaknow) is the perfect combination.

Plus… even though they’re not Haute, they smell damb good!  Sometimes it’s nice to to just smell good…! Every time I wear that combo out somewhere I always get compliments and questions about it!  Wonder if it’s triggering some scent memory in others?

Have any of you tried any of the Tree Hut line?  What do you think?  Would you dive into a Cheap and Cheerful line?

    LOVE this memory Musette.
Mum used to keep a tin of pineapple juice and another of apricot nectar in the cupboard for when she did Champagne Punch. There was also a can of fruit salad.
I have a bunch of very blurry (with time, not because I was rat-assed) memories of the family getting sozzled on it and everyone ending up in the pool very squiffy.
    That slightly metallic taste!

Never heard of Tree Hut but the pineapple body cream sounds delish and I am blaming YOU Musette for my recent purchase of the lovely Demeter Sweet Orange. Jk but now I must try that combo!
Frozen concentrate juices…yep…a staple in our house growing up!

  • Lemoncake says:

I haven’t tried any of the Tree Hut body butter but I love their body scrub….it’s great for whole body but I love to use it on my hands followed by moisturizer at night. Maybe I need to try the body butter after using the scrub!

I’ve never heard of Tree Hut. Not even see them in Boots!
Loved the little cans of juice. Over here they were by Britvic.
I’m sure I read recently why pineapples have that metallic note. I can’t remember where but it was to do with the enzymes.

Also meant to add: I browsed online since the selections locally are so scattershot, and there’s one that allegedly smells like the Bum Bum cream. I’mo order one I think. Did you sniff the watermelon? Is it awful? I wish there were less of the sugar scrubs (which I’m not interested in) and more lotions and whipped shea available.

    • Musette says:

I both sniffed and bought the watermelon scrub and cream. It’s like a Watermelon tribute band… but watermelon is so… ephemeral (?) that it’s not off putting. I’m thinking it might be great in hotter weather

I remember canned pineapple juice, and Hi C in the cans, and kool-aid with cups of real sugar in it. Yum. Love that metallic edge.
My husband is a big fan of scrubs and Tree Hut is a fixture in the shower. Moroccan Rose or anything with coconut. I haven’t tried their other products but I should. The pineapple sounds delish.

Interestingly, this brand can be had here at Boots, a big pharmacy company. However, I’m good on gooeys and I’m moving all my stuff to UK/European/Asian brands for the duration for a variety of reasons.

  • ElizaC says:

I get a heavy dose of metallic from lemon curd – even in a jar. Funny how those tastes linger in your brain. I still can’t figure what gave Orange Julius it’s very distinctive flavor!

  • Dina C. says:

I love those Tree Hut sugar scrubs in the tubs! I’m a fan of the green tea one they used to make, the Morrocan rose one, and since Christmas, the raspberry fizz one. Anyway, I use them all year round since my exercise of choice is at a public indoor pool. I haven’t tried their other products. We used to drink orange juice made from frozen concentrate growing up as kids. Lots of memories surrounding the sounds, smell, and taste that went along with that whole process. And it Did always have a bit of metallic tang, not to be confused with Tang the astronaut orange powdered drink we all had to have, too!

    • Musette says:

We were frozen concentrate people, too! I’d always try to be the one to mix it because I am a fiend – I’d keep one can of water back, pour myself some then finish mixing. Like I said: fiend!

  • Maya says:

Tree Hut feels so familiar to me but I don’t think I’ve ever gotten anything from them. Your scent combination sounds good. I love the taste and smell of fresh pineapple (well any pineapple really) and I also get the metallic which I like.

  • March says:

Tom, Musette and I are sure you mentioned the Tree Hut for the first time and got us started on this! Are we hallucinating? I have a large tube of Tree Hut Coco Colada lotion next to my bed and it’s fabulous! (And not just the smell — it’s got glycerin and some nice oils in it).

  • Tom says:

I haven’t tried these but you’re forcing me!

I do love pineapple juice and remember the canned stuff- the ones in the little cans especially. Still love that metallic tang and yes, I still discern it even in the fresh fruit. As a matter of fact I was just at the market yesterday and bought “Just Pineapple” juice. I’m gonna go have some right now..
