Decant Demolition 2025 April

Hey Hey Posse, Gosh, already we are four months into Decant Demolition 2025. A third of the way through. 39ml of decants emptied! Now it’s up to you to comment your way into a chance at a US$50 Surrender To Chance Gift Voucher

Sorry there were no replies last month but I’m back now from holidays and ready for comments!

Decant Demolition 2025

Decant Demolition 2025 April

My Challenge

For Decant Demolition 2025 I’ll be trying to drain 30ml of juice every month. In any configuration from 15 x 2ml to a 30ml decant of decanted perfume into a spray receptacle 2ml or more. They must also be finished by ME! No giving stuff away. Although Random Acts Of Kindness are encouraged they do not count for my DD2025.

Your Challenge

Play along. Use up some decants/samples/bottles. Pass those unloved extras on to others or leave them in your workplace bathroom for people to take.

Also, in the interest of driving fragrant discussion and your own thunking there must be 40 comments that are not mine. Yes, you read it correctly. 40 comments, and not lazy, spammy bumps like an OK or Got It. It must be a pertinent comment to the discussion at hand. You can answer someone else’s comment. Ask them a question about their comment. Add your own thunks, thoughts on my thunks. Tell us a story about something fragrant that links with previous comments or the post. The secondary (but most important) goal of Decant Demolition 2025 is to reanimate perfumista conversation and engagement.

Should I make 30ml and there be 40 comments that comply. I will give away a US$50 Surrender To Chance Gift Voucher each month.

In April we hit the mark:

Decant Demolition 2025 April

April Empties

Ambre Mythique Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier 10ml

Ambre Mythique is such a beautiful amber. If I didn’t already have 20+ ambers of which only two get worn I’d be buying a bottle TODAY. It’s warm, spicy and freaking gorgeous.

No. 09 L’Eau Blanche by IUNX 5ml

L’Eau Blanche is a very lovely low key beauty. If the bloody bottles hadn’t been so poorly designed I’d have probably bought this, and the whole set.

Nuit d’Amore by Guerlain 5ml

This is a strange one. I’ve gone through this decant and loved it so much bought a bottle retail in Paris and then bought a back up from a FB Sales Doc but have never written a post about it. Watch this space…

Sensual Orchid by Laurent Mazzone 5ml

This is a really nice fragrance but I’m glad it’s empty.

Sogno Reale by Mendittorosa 10ml

Another bloody good amber that deserves your attention. An aquatic, salty amber. SO GOOD!

Tok’yo Mama Fizzzzz by Smell Bent 4ml

Want to smile for a couple of hours? This simple but also incredibly complex citrus/wood extravaganza will hit the spot. DAMN! I really wish I’d bought more Smell Bent.

WOO HOO! 39ml done and dusted. Had so much fun wearing these. Are any of the perfumes or houses favourites of yours?
Now’s the time to get commenting, replying and connecting.

I thunked only a few this month, Solstice Scents Owl Creek Aleworks (love but discontinued) and Witch’s Cottage (also love), and a handful by Jousset (none memorable). I am thinning the herd (and creating new shelf space!) after wearing numerous fragrances last week that made me question my purchasing decisions. After attempting/failing to move any bottles the last two years at swapmeet, I plan to donate a box of unloveds to a youth home charity shop. I am no longer hanging on to things out of misplaced guilt or just because of pretty bottles. Someone should be enjoying these if I am not.

Is this the equivalent of Nirvana for perfumistas (perfumistae?) The Circle of Perfumed Life?
I now have Elton John singing the tune from the Lion King with new perfume based lyrics as an earworm. Whilst considering it as a title for a novel about a perfumista

    • Portia says:

      LOVE this idea VerbenaLuvvr,
I’m trying to make a box of unwanteds right now. I’m going to make a FB Sales Doc first and then take the leftovers to a mission.

  • Charlotte Scheuer says:

Sadly, I finished my decant of Chanel “Beige” and I still love it. I think it is a wonderful idea to go through samples, I have so many! The only problem is that it might convince me to want a full bottle!

  • Sylvia says:

I thunked two samples, vetifleur and vetiver (Hiram Green). Both lovely vetiver fragrance. I have enough options in that category though mostly wear the same ones, so I’m not tempted to buy a full bottle.
I haven’t tried any of the fragrances you mentioned Portia.

  • March says:

I haven’t demolished anything, but it’s so nice to have you back! I am doing this perfumista thing of finding random vials somebody’s made up for me that are unlabeled, shrugging, and putting them on though 😀

  • MMKinPA says:

I thunked three in April – Lolita Lempicka Minuit Sonne and L’Artisan Dzing! and Dzonghka. I need to go through my stash again for low levels – I noticed my DSH Cardamom & Kyphi is suffering from some evaporation so I may need to step up the wearing.

  • Lemoncake says:

Hi Portia – completely agree about Smell Bent – I had a couple of small bottles of their perfumes but used them up. I made no progress on decants ….and added to my addiction by purchasing 3 BDK perfumes (although they are the travel size) – Gris Charnel, Tabac Rose & Creme de Cuir.

    • Mals86 says:

I didn’t realize Smell Bent went out of business! I still really enjoy my small bottle of One (old paper and chai), and I wish I’d bought more than a 2ml sample of Florist’s Fridge.

      • Portia says:

ONE was amazing Mals86, wish I’d bought a litre. So many that I bought a little of that I now wish I’d bought 50ml. Even my 50ml Tibet ur bottom $$ has only a few lonely ml left.

    • Portia says:

Excellent choices LemonCake. I really like BDK and have bottles of two of those, not TR&C.

  • finanna says:

10ml of Sogno Reale in a month is impressive! Seriously good stuff, but it was sooo potent on me.

I achieved my monthly quota of two thunked samples:
    Gold Noir (Majouri): Yankee candle

Cacao Libertine (Maison de Tahite): neutered Angel

and a bottle of Botanic Harmony (local cheapie brand Dermosil) which was great as a bed linen spray.

    • Portia says:

      Hi Finanna,
Not the WHOLE 10ml in a month, just finished a 10ml decant.

      Excellent thunking from you. Congratulations!

  • Maggiecat says:

I wore less perfume in general last month – had shoulder replacement surgery and had trouble spraying properly. But I did get rid of a few samples that had gone of, as decants will do if you let them sit around long enough. And a slight spray mishap with my favorite Italian souvenir left my sling smelling glorious for a few days! ( Aquaflor di Firenze Prelude d’Amour if you’re interested)
BTW, what do you all do with samples that you know, from the first sniff, won’t work for you? There they sit, almost full, unloved and unused. Pitch them? I hate to do it but I don’t have anyone local to pass them on to either. ?

    • Maya says:

I can’t bring myself to pitch my unwanted samples either. I pour or spray some in wastebaskets in the kitchen and bathroom. That can add a nice fragrance in the area. Some, I put on rugs after vacuuming. It can freshen up things a bit. In nice weather, when the windows are open, I scent the curtains, making sure it won’t stain. The scent wafts in the breeze. I’ve been surprised at how many of my rejects smell nice when they’re not on me. lol. The few, under 5, that I’ve hated, I immediately threw away, sealed.

    • Portia says:

It’s an eternal problem MaggieCat. Fortunately we have plenty of Aussie perfumistas happy to get some unknowns in the mail.

  • AnnieA says:

Finished three travel sprays this month but didn’t keep them. L’Ombre dans l’Eau, vanille insensee and an Hermes ? Continue the good, emptying work!

  • Dina C. says:

    Portia,
I’m not personally familiar with any of these lovelies. Glad you were able to use up a few more things. Spring is my favorite scent season — all those green florals! — so I’ve been wearing some favorites rather than using up decants and samples lately. I gave into temptation and bought a fb of Balmain Vent Vert on ebay, too.

  • Eldarwen22 says:

I thunked a 15ml decant of vintage Jicky edt. But there was only 2 or 3 ml left. I also managed to thunk the rest of my Amouage Memoir body butter and not sure how much that counts but it counts for something at the end of the day.

    • Portia says:

      Woo Hoo! 15ml gone Eldarwen22!
Using up a body butter is a big deal. They’re bloody gorgeous too.

There is this persistent rumor of Jicky being DCd (that my Guerlain SA has no notion of). I’d be so sad if it is.

Look forward to hearing about the travels. I got rid of a sample of Perfumer H Ink. This is what came along with my beloved Smoke and is simply not for me. Vetiver and cedar. Feh. Good riddance.

    • Sylvia says:

Also didn’t really like my sample of Ink. I haven’t had much luck with the brand. Of the ones I tried I only liked Smoke and Charcoal. I will dig out my samples and retry them.

    • Portia says:

HA! Cinnamon, sometimes we are complete perfume opposites. I love Ink and hope to own a bottle one day.

  • alityke says:

Nothing thunked this month. I did gift some duplicate samples though. Not made a difference to the number of different fragrances in samples form but I enjoyed sharing the love.

  • Gaynor says:

It’s a big fat nothing from me for April because I’ve been travelling for the last month. I’ve tried lots of things that have been new to me and bought a few bottles, and acquired only a meagre number of new samples. I’ve had a much better haul on previous trips, but that’s probably for the best because the aim is to use up the samples I have!

  • Lynley says:

I don’t know how you can even get through almost 40ml in a month tbh.. perhaps I don’t reapply enough. I have been using samples, but they also keep breeding with rewards boxes etc so there are still so many I haven’t even tried let alone thunked.
I haven’t tried Ambre Mythique but MPG Ambre Dore is my favourite amber ever. Can’t say I’ve seen much of the brand around lately either.. Also have Cuir Fetiche but rarely wear it and Tubereuse which I LOVE – if the weather is just right.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Lynley,
Well, the decants started out as 10ml or 3ml but quite often use and evaporation have used up half. Of course I count the container, not the ml.
      Cuir Fetiche! Yum.

  • Maya says:

Hey Portia. I sent you an email now. 🙂
I have liked several Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier perfumes. Cuir Fetiche was the first leather I fell for. I like Mendittorosa Sogno Reale a lot and it likes me back.
I wasn’t trying but I did finish a 9ml decant of Perris Monte Carlo Arancia DI Sicilia. Getting a bottle! Great prices at discounters.

    • Portia says:

OOOHHHHH Tell me about the Arancia de Sicilia Maya?!?

      • Maya says:

The company writeup for this is accurate – sitting in an outdoor cafe in Sicily under some blood orange trees, enjoying a cappuccino. This has the best nose tingling blood orange ever, then eventually, the coffee aspect comes in. Amazingly, the blood orange never disappears on me. It’s always there in the background!
