Not that I have really anything to whine about (Or anyone on here was really whining..) but when that stopped me before?
I did reply to Musette’s post yesterday and one of her questions was about a book that you may have read that you regretted. I chose “The Devil Wears Prada”
I could not get through that one. I thought all the characters were pretty annoying and I was wondering how they were going to make this into a movie without serious retooling. As a matter of fact that one flummoxed me, and I’ve sat through at least one of Jackie Collins’ sequels so my standard ain’t that high. I donated it rather then finishing it, then got another copy and still haven’t waded through all of it.

Sue and I back in the day (we are in the front)
The movie is of course a totally different animal. I saw it when it came out with my dear friend Sue. At the point where the gang dispatches to Paris and are cruising the streets in their not-out-yet S-Klasse she turned to me and referring to her then early teen daughter whispered “XXX is never seeing this movie”. It will be weird seeing it without Sue (she died suddenly last year), but that’s the way life is. My friend Terre wants to hit a matinee when the hype dies down so I will see it, but the book? Maybe not..

“..if I smell freesia…”
In honor of it I am wearing Santa Maria Novella Fresia. I don’t know why that flower annoys Miranda so much. it’s quite pretty. I suggest it if you’re attending a screening. Hope it keeps the texters (cinematic “clackers”) away..
I think I might have reached a plateau on my losing the covid weight. I am still not going to go the GLP-1 route unless I absolutely give up (I dislike like drugs of any kind. And hard work). So we will see. So far it’s not been a hassle.
I actually did drop into ScentBar the other day. I have not been in forever. It was crowded since it was a Saturday and I didn’t stay long, but it’s still there and still scent bar. Which is a good thing.

The one circled on the right is the coolant one.
I did accomplish something auto- related. A little light on the dash kept intermittently coming on that looked like a battery. Not the one that says the alternator was going, that was a white light. I thought the battery was dying. Yippee. Turns out that it was just that I needed to add some coolant. Not that it was overheating, just asking. Now, I do think that having that icon try to look like the actual radiator is I suppose a boon to the literal minded; they have the engine bay memorized. Those of us who are less mechanically minded and more literal would have been happy with the figure of a water droplet and an exclamation point, but who am I?

Yes, I went to Norms. I was good though.
I also actually ventured out to a mall. The Grove. On a weekend. What was I thinking? It was stuffed with people- as a matter of fact I didn’t even make it into the Grove- I gave up at the Farmer’s Market. I’ll brave crowds for a trip to Marcel Marceau for croissants, but there’s an Apple Store on the freaking moon at this point so why risk the covid crowds? I can visit the new cheap colorful laptops another time. Like when I need one. In a few years.

My god-dog. Wondering why I am taking a photo rather than my job, petting.
So now that I whined to my hearts content (or at least close to all you can stomach) I will ask what did you do for the weekend? Plans for Mom’s day? I am sitting my god-dog while her grandkids take my friend out for Mom’s day dinner. Sunday night with Columbo and a dog in your lap. Could it be better? (yes, with an 8 figure trust fund, but let’s not be churlish..
Fresia is $180 for 100ML or $130 for 50. Mine was part of a discovery set I purchased at the store.

I kept reading that as “the corvid crowds” and thought, I’d love a big flock of corvids! There may be an Apple store on the moon but there isn’t one here lol. Sometimes I really miss THE most pedestrian retail / mall. I get my fix when I travel. Re Devil: we’re going to see it this weekend. Rewatching the first movie is one of my guilty pleasures (the book is terrible.) Not for the “main character” arc but for Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep, they’re fantastic.
Who could hate freesias? ( obviously I don’t remember that part). I loved DWP but… I dunno… maybe not on my list of Things to Watch (#2)
You are also sharing, not whining. And you have reminded me that, unlike Miranda Priestly, I adore freesias. I need to see what I can find to wear if I ever get out to see DWP2. (I loved the first movie and research it whenever I get the chance – i.e. when my husband’s not home!)
Thank you! But I’m fine whining..
Heya Tom,
THAT POOCH! So cute.
Freesias used to self sow around the family home. They’d pop up in the tiniest concrete crack or between pavers. The scent would be so extravagant.
I’ve put some in my little patch of green, next to the apartment garage. They didn’;t flower last year but we got abundant greenery. Fingers crossed for this year, they are already showing leaves.
I’m not seeing The Devil Wears Prada 2. Maybe when it streams. The first one is one of my all time faves and the reactions of friends has been so mixed that I’m scared to sully the originals gloss. Even the friends who adored 2 have aid it is a little flat compared to the original. I sincerely hope you love it.
One of the great joys of my working life is that the mall and groceries on weekday mornings, while you all are working, is my own personal playground.
Portia xx
That is the time I love the mall. I have always hated crowds.
I don’t think I have smelled real freesia. I will have to correct that.
You should be able to get a little pot of them about to flower halfway through winter Tom. Then put the lot into the garden somewhere, they’ll continue to give you a spot of fragrant colour year after year.
OMG! Freesias… growing like weeds! If only!
Cute god dog. All your god dogs are gorgeous!
I am yet to find a fragrance that comes close to the smell of freesias, especially white freesias.
Yes they are! And if you find it let us know.
Good morning. I’m feeling rebellious so I am not going to real whine or pseudo whine. 😉
Sounds like you had a relatively pleasant weekend. Next time you go to Scent Bar consider checking out Sultan Pasha’s perfumes. They could be worth it. They’re on my list to sample.
Right now I’m wearing some vintage Dior Dioressence. I really like it, even more than vintage Miss Dior. (I have a couple of minis.) It’s different. Dior himself called it “le parfum barbare”!
Oooh I love Dioressense. I will make a note of Sultan Pasha but they don’t always have in the store everything..
Loved listening to your catalog of whines, Tom. They were all very sensible! I also avoid stores, malls, Costco, etc on Saturday. What a nightmare! Real freesia are beautiful and they have a gorgeous scent. I had white ones mixed into my bridal bouquet. I’m glad you figured out your car’s warning light and fixed the issue. I recently had to replace my rear windshield wiper. The amount of pollen is treacherous, so I’ve gotta be able to wipe that crud off! Your goddog (it’s the same forwards and backwards!) is so cute! Have a great time hanging out with the pup. My weekend ahead involves moving boxes & furniture from my parents’ lake house — ugh!
I have a Costco membership mostly because they kept DEI hiring and diversity despite our present president opposing it. But I mostly order for delivery because of the crowds and the fact that if I need milk I need a quart, not six gallons.
I love cars and I love driving but maintaining it? I hate having to deal with mechanics (even though I assume most of them are pretty honest)
