Already reviewed that! (Patty)

The second big problem with writing a perfume review is that you grab something you haven’t worn in a while, put it on, fall back in love with it, sit down to write about it while obsessively sniffing at your scented hand, tossing superlatives around in your head, Googling for notes, and find the review you wrote over two years ago.  And I don’t care because I remember why I loved it, just wasn’t wearing it because, well, I didn’t have any!  How many parallels this runs into in my personal life kind of scares me.

It’s Le Labo Gaiac.  I don’t think I have anything new to say except it’s really the perfect cozy warm winter scent. It’s been snuggling up to my nose from my hand all day.  And the sun is out.  It fits in with my more contemplative frame of mind of balancing the dark with the light – preventing dark from beating the crap out of light and making sure light doesn’t burn so brightly and maybe a little too brightly in an effort to pretend dark doesn’t need to exist.

Y’all seemed to be most in favor of the Xerjoffs staying together or at least keeping the big pieces of it togther, so what I decided to do is keep the Discovery Set together in its cool little unseen kit as a prize for one commenter.  It is Discovery Set Part Two, and it has Dhofar, Modoc, Uden, Oroville, Nio and Kobe in it, each of them 15 mls. I’m not sure what any of those scents are like.  I’ve thought of a thousand different ways to do a contest for this, but in all of them, I’d wind up being the judge and probably make someone mad.   I thought about letting you guys vote, and then thought that could be an even bigger mess – I went so far as to write it all out, then contemplated all the ways it could go wrong and deleted the whole mess.  So random draw for this big prize.

Then I have a carded sample set of Elle, Irisss, XXY and Homme that I’ll give away as one set to another commenter.  I have two sets of these, and the samples are really generous. I wanted to keep some of the other set for myself to try and for reference, but don’t needa lot, so I’m going to decant out a sample set of the same scents for another commenter from my carded sample set.

I’ve also got a carded sample set of Oesel, Lua, Nio, Oroville and Ibitra.  I’ll do the same thing with this. I’ll decant out some  of this into a sample set for another commenter to win.

Then they sent me a large’ish sample/decant of Richwood.  It’s a gorgeous scent, and really rich. I’m still not sure what I think of it yet.  I should have at least 10 samples of this that I’ll give out to another 10 commenters.

So!  We will wind up with 11 winners,  I think that’s a good compromise and gives a nice big prize and several nice smaller prizes and spreads around the Xerjoff generosity.  When I draw the winners (On Tuesday, a day after Valentine’s Day), I’ll announce them in my blog post.

Comment away to be entered.  Tell me which one of these you’d most like to smell or bag on the new American Idol judges. I’m a skosh conflicted about them – I miss Simon, but Steven Tyler and J-Lo are really kind of likable.  If they’d just booted Randy, who seems to never offer anything to the discussion beyond DAWWWWG, and given us, well, anyone interesting, I could probably be happy enough. Even though I’ll absolutely hate myself in three weeks when I’m still watching it with all the bad contestants left in it that are boring as tadpoles because they are 15 and haven’t lived.

  • Mikael says:

Most interested in Richwood, Kobe and Dhofar, but the prices are truly ridiculous. I’m up for trying them though, if luck is on my side.

  • Monica says:

scared but desperate to try the Xeroffs!

  • Lilybug says:

I haven’t tried any of those so any would be good to try.

  • Jennifer says:

I would love to be entered ! I don’t know much about the scents -except that many of thier caps make them look a bit like shoehorns–or an icecream scooper(but still- a pretty gold shoehorn!).And that they are so pricey that it is dangerous to try them with my practically genetic tendancy to fall madly for the hideously expensive.Grr…

As for AI -I never really followed it .I “may” have seen an equivalant of one episode total -no one in my family is interested .The show might be stopped on if (1)the channel surfer stops to speak with someone(2) there is a severe weather alert/closings message scrolling on the bottom of the screen on that channel(3)there is really disgusting commercial/or program on the other networks(waiting through last few minutes on AI ‘s station for the following program.
My workplace had a drawing -guess the AI winner and you win too!-
I had to ask friends and acquaintances who they would choose (I lost anyway)

  • pyramus says:

For sheer perversity, I would most like to try whichever Xerjoff is the most expensive, because that is the one I am least likely to ever actually buy; that way, if I like it, it will seem even better and more desirable because I’ll never own it.

A better answer would probably be Tobacco Oroville, because the combination of carnation and tobacco seems irresistible.

  • ElizabethT says:

I watched american idol for the first time this year, for the sole reason that my sister is on. I must say, watching the tryout episodes was a bit painful… although if I was getting paid as much as the judges it wouldn’t be too bad – then I could purchase all of these scents! I’m most interested in trying Irisss, although as someone said earlier, trying perfumes of this price is dangerous and possibly heartbreaking – what if i fall in love with it and can’t have it???

  • Daniele says:

You know, I’ve never watched American Idol. Something about it just seemed like it would annoy me too much to watch, but I watch some really bad TV so it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. I think Oesel sounds the most intriguing to me right now, but I’d love to try any/all! I’m afraid they’re out of my price range though, which isn’t hard when your price range is as low as mine is right now. *blush*

  • helenviolette says:

I would much love to try those Xerjoffs- especially Irissssssss. On a Guaiac note- I have not had the pleasure of sniffin the LeLabo- but I love! the Red Flower Guaiac- it is still too cold for me to pull it out yet…. Also- I am upset with myself for failing to record any new American Idol stuff (for the fun of watching Steven Tyler and J-Lo)- as someone put it- nice for them to have judges who have enjoyed successful careers in the bizzzz- hmmmmmm?

  • CC says:

I would love to try Oroville, Nio, Richwood, Irisss.. all of them really! Thank you for your effort and generosity in this draw :)

  • olfactoria says:

I am extremely curious about Xerjoff, so I am exited that you hold this generous draw. I am most curious about Irisss, sounds like the perfect Iris…

  • Dante's Bra says:

Thanks, Patty! Throw me in for any of them, but especially the Oroville/Ibitira set– mimosa is so beautiful…

  • Cynthia says:

I also would be happy with any of them. When it comes to perfume, I want to sniff everything! I’ve only watched Idol a couple of times this year, but I think Stephen Tyler is such a nicer person than Simon cowell. I like his enthusiasm.

  • dremybluz says:

i would be happy with any of the great selections you will be sharing with us.

  • ElizabethC says:

Would love to try any of them but particularly the Irisss. Thank you so much for the drawing!

  • L says:

Really want to try Modoc, Nio and Richwood. I think Steven Tyler’s been a hoot this season on Idol.

  • Singlemalt says:

Oh my, any of them. But if I’d have to pick..IRIS! Love iris. The Richwood sounds wonderful also. I think I must be the only person in the world who has never seen ‘Idol’ I have seen some individual performers on youtube. But. alas not a single episode.

  • Janell says:

It is nice to rediscover why loved something so much in the 1st place. Please enter me in the draw. I would love to try any of those fumes.

  • Sue says:

I’d love to try any Xerjoff scents. No idea when or where else I’d get an oportunity to try. Irisss seems to be favorite on the blog, but I’m intrigued by the whole line. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway! :)

  • Warum says:

I have not smelled any of the Xerjoffs, so I can only guess which ones I might like. I think I will mostly be interested in a sample set that contains some of their women’s fragrances.

    Thanks for a draw!

  • AnnieA says:

I’m goingwith “SHARE-off” as pronunciation, but then again, I suffer from Reader’s Disease (not knowing how to pronounce a word, even if meaning is known)…

  • Tyler says:

Richwood sounds interesting. I have tried a few from the shooting stars line (love Kobe), and the casamorati line is extremely generic to me. Have yet to smell the 17/17 series.

  • Winifreida says:

HHmmmm perfume expense…my bottom line – the new cheap- has inexorably crept up as I thrill seek ever more, new and over the top…and at the same time I’m finding really cheap stuff, often put out in the late 20th ( a ‘fume decade I missed due to taking it easy with Mitsouko and motherhood), was great, and many of the accords we now see in niche were hammered out back then.
I’d love to be in the draw!
I’ll have to sample Irisss anyway in case its up there in the holy trinity of ISM, A L’Ondee, I Ganache, Mythique…whoops my rule to only get FBs of three personal faves of an idea/note has crumpled I see…

  • Nina Z says:

Would love to try Richwood, as I’m a fan of sandalwood. I’m a boring person to ask about TV because I’m just re-watching the entire Buffy series these days.

  • Michael says:

I would love to try any of the Xerjoffs actually. I’ve been eyeing them for some time now, but haven’t plucked up the courage to fork out mega bucks for any. I’m a relative newcomer to American Idol, as this is only my second season of watching. I actually like all the judges, but particularly enjoy Steven Tyler. I like how he doesn’t take himself too seriously and is a bit of a lovable cad/rogue.

  • Gretchen says:

Never cared to watch Am Idol, which probably counts as an opinion.

Of the Xerjoffs (“Zher-yoffs”?), Irisss might appeal the most to me, because of a review I seem to remember on NST. Not that I’d turn down any of them that I might win. Please put me in the Xerjoff drawing/pinata bash!

  • k-scott says:

Steven Tyler wears more makeup than I do… and has had more plastic surgery and hair styling to boot!

Please enter me in the draw, thanks Patty!

  • odonata9 says:

I think you’ve come up with a good compromise – 1 big winner and 10 other not so big winners! I don’t watch American Idol (but I loooooooooooooove So You Think You Can Dance!), so no comment there. The only Xerjoff I’ve read much about are Irisss and Richwood, and Richwood sounds pretty nice. Thanks for the generous giveaways!

  • rednails says:

I have zero experience with that line so I can’t say which sample set would interest me more. Please enter me in the drawing so I can gain that crucial experience! As for the American Idol judges, JLO can’t sing, so why is she judging a singing contest? I love Steve Tyler, but he is ooooooooooooold. He, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and that guy from J.Geils should front a concert tour called “Wrinklepalooza.”

  • fleurdelys says:

Gee, I’m totally out of it – haven’t smelled any Xerjoffs, and don’t watch Idol. But although I’ll continue to not watch Idol, I’d love to tray any of the Xerjoffs; please do enter me in the drawing.

  • Tiara says:

Richwood is the one Xerjoff that I WILL try come hell or high water. Sounds luscious.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the addition of Steven Tyler and JLo. When Steven bent to kiss and hug the young woman in the wheelchair, I ws so touched. He’s quite a softie. Last night he was pretty blunt with some folks but deservedly so.

  • Kathryn says:

I would love to win any of the Xerjoffs. I haven’t tried any yet and am very curious to see what might justify their exorbitant prices.

Although I’ve watched a few episodes of American Idol over the years, I’ve never really followed it. However, an adorable 15 year old named Danielle Pease who sang at our local bandstand last summer in a community concert series made it through to the Hollywood round this season. Whether she goes on in the competition or not, she has been giving interviews on local TV that show how thrilled she is that her talent has been recognized and that she has the chance to travel across the country. I may have been a bit dismissive of AO in years past, but now I am really touched by the hope and optimism it can give to young contestants. I hope the new judges will be nice to her.

    • Ann says:

Hi Kathryn, thanks for sharing that. I may have to start watching it now that we have someone to root for!

  • dDub says:

I think AI has run its course. I find the new judges inoffensive and/but boring, and I think their proclivity to let just about anyone move on to Hollywood will result in a terribly excruciating set of elimination rounds (and not in a good way). |-)

Also, the way you have set up the fragrance draw is more than fair- lots of opportunities to win a little something special, and one very lucky person will feel like they just won the sweepstakes. Fun fun.

  • HemlockSillage says:

Thanks for hosting the drawing, and putting so much thought into it. I’d love to try the Xerjoffs. The only one I’ve tried is the Irisss, and I thought it was lovely, but I think for the price, I want SL’s ISM.

As for the Gaiac 10, I love it, too. It’s an Annick Menardo fragrance, and much softer than Black, Hypnotic Poison Bois d’Armenie or Bois d’Argent. . .but I love it. I hope Le Labo makes it available again in the US, so others can try it. Most of my favorite LL are the exclusives–the Poivre, the Vanille, the Baie rose, the Musc, AND the Aldehyde. . .it’s like I’m only collecting the city exculsives! (the only “normal” LL I have is the Labdanum 18 :D

PS Natalie and Meg have company–I don’t have cable or an antenna. I have a television, but only for watching DVDs, so I can’t comment on the AI stuff. Steven Tyler sounds like he’d be a hoot as a judge! Be well.

  • Gwyneth says:

This is a totally wonderful place.
I’m able to “visit” places around the world with the folks here, and I’m introduced to fantastic fragrances I would never hear about where I live my “real” life.

I’ve never smelled ANY of the Le Labos, nor the Xerjoffs. (But my wicked, wicked mind always reads that name as something very naughty……):-?
And I agree with mariekel’s comment — I’m slightly shocked they would introduce something SO out-there expensive. I could NEVER justify buying them. Although —- I admit that I do some fancy footwork with the finances to fund my perfume obsession as it is.(sorry about the alliteration – it simply flew out of my fingers as I typed. hahaha)

I’d love to be entered in the draw.

  • mariekel says:

Funny about that Gaiac: I cannot smell anything except a sort of barely-there vanillic woods. Which is odd considering the other Labos step up and start talking.

Those Xerjoffs are awfully tempting but they are sooooo expensive. I am slightly shocked anyone would think to bring out such an expensive line in this economy. I mean, are people really paying hundreds of dollars to have their perfume stored in a little bit of malachite? Couldn’t they bring out a plain little glass bottle for us ordinary mortals? That said, I still want to try them all, of course.

I had sworn off AI after the gorgeous Adam was denied his rightful throne. But I have to admit having had my curiosity piqued by Steven Tyler. Still haven’t gotten over my intense dislike for la diva JLo, though. And you are so right, Randy has become just plain annoying and irrelevant…As to perfumes for these three, I would imagine JLo wears something absurdly expensive and unrelated to her samba-girl frags. randy would probably go for something that screamed music exec, like one of Diddy’s colognes.

but Steven Tyler could prove to be a perfume wildcard. He could rock a really naughty women’s scent like BB Perfect Night or Rochas Femme, or a unisexy like Musc Ravageur.

    • Sherri M. says:

RE: the Xerjoffs the luxury market is a strange animal. When the economy was way down a year or two ago, the SA at Tiffany’s told my dh their business had actually increased….go figure.

Not familiar with BB Perfect Night, but can totally see ST in Femme or Musc Ravageur!

  • samberg says:

Irisss is the one I’m most curious about, and regarding the new American Idol judges, well I was surprised/pleased to see a mushy Steven Tyler is the new heart of the judge panel.

  • maggi says:

Hi–complex but fair, I’d say. Better than one big prize. I’m most interested in Richwood than others, though a good strong iris could be lovely for spring. As for judges. could I talk about the judges on RuPaul’s Drag Race instead? Hurray for Michele, keep Bobbi instead of Santino.

  • MAshley says:

I’d like to try any of them, because I’ve just started getting into perfume and those little sample vials are becoming an addiction. I’d also like to see how a high end perfume line smells (not likely to buy any anytime soon!)

  • Disteza says:

I have to admit it, I’ve never watched American Idol. Nor do I watch much other TV, so I don’t really have a comment that’s anything other than irrelevant. I would like to be entered in the draw–I’ve yet to try anything from this line. I must’ve been too busy swooning over the Cartiers and the new Serges. ;)

  • rosiegreen62 says:

I would love to sample anything at all. Strict budget has not allowed any new purchases for a while so I am sticking with old favorites. My husband is a musician so American Idol is banned in our house. Too hard on the ears. I am busy dreaming of an early spring.

  • Amy K says:

I would love to sample anything. I never really got into American Idol for some reason, but I’m chomping at the bit for So You Think You Can Dance to start up again!

  • Kym says:

Please enter me in the draw – I want to try them all!

American Idol, I have not watched in years…but did check in on the new season for ST and JLo. I must say, they are very entertaining. I even tried to watch this week, but couldn’t find the show (clearly, I didn’t look too hard, thought it was on on Tuesday…guess I’ll have to figure it out.

  • Samantha says:

I’d like to be entered to win any of them…I’ve been wanting to smell Irisss for a while. In fact, since you first mentioned it here! I also had to break down and order a sample of Cartier L’heure IV Fougueuse due to your review the other day!

  • jirish says:

It’s nice entering a draw and knowing that on some level I’ll be relieved when I lose, because the line is just too $$$$ for me! Haven’t tried Gaiac yet, but it sounds really lovely.

  • tmp00 says:

Am I the only person that’s never seen an episode of American Idol?

    • Musette says:

Nope. I haven’t either. I only know it via blog references and quick glimpses of the early-judge thingy – at best, I’ve seen about 10 minutes of it, Total Time Spent. I did see the exchange where Simon got yelled at by some old lady for being rude. That was very cheering.

However, if RuPaul were to join the judges I would watch Every Week, I promise!!!

      xo >-)

    • tammy says:

Nope, I haven’t either. I didn’t even realize it was on last night when I said we’d be watching this time!

  • Abyss says:

That’s a cracker of a draw! So generous, please consider me. I don’t dare even reading up on their scents because, well, y’know. But Angela raved about Irissss(ssss?) and Richwood on NST and I’d definitely love to give them a whirl.

I don’t watch Idol or any other of Cowell’s reality shows so can’t comment on those.

  • Elise says:

jeesh! I’d try any! enter me!

I also like JLo and Stephen…but we do need ONE meany on A.I. and Randy isn’t mean enough…but still fun watching!

    Richwood sounds….mmmmm.

  • Catherine says:

I’d love to be in the draw, please! I haven’t even heard of these scents, much less smelled them, so the sampling would be fun!

  • sherobin says:

What a draw! Have yet to sniff any of the Xerjoffs. Aside from the high price, it’s just kind of overwhelming how many of them there are. Very tempted by Oesel, though. And Irisss and Richwood sound like they could possibly be amazing.

On the Idol judges…I actually like all of them. I liked Simon and Paula, too. Is there something wrong with me? But I rarely watch the show.

  • Ruanne says:

I couldn’t begin to pick- I’m interested in so many of them. I would be delighted to win any.

I have never seen Idol, but have been hearing from trusted sources that it’s worth watching for the always adorable Steven Tyler. I’m waiting for a diet/lifestyle book from him, because seriously- he was “old” when I was in high school, and now he looks younger than I do.

  • LindaB says:

Please enter me in this fabulous drawing! What a nice way you’ve come up with doing it too. I’m not familiar too much with this line but the Irisss sounds very nice.

I caught one episode so far of AI b/c I REFUSE to be sucked in this year, lol. I found that Steven Tyler was extremely likable, JLO seemed like kind of a bitch and Randy is just wallpaper. I’ve been watching this show since Season 1 but I’m taking a breather this year. I just can’t. It’s sooooo long. :-)

  • Gail S says:

Oh, I’d love to be entered for any of them! I’ve tried Kobe and Lua thanks to generous swappers, but there’s no way in heck I’d ever buy any of these on my budget so that’ll probably be it unless I win something :)

I’m feeling pretty good about the new judges on AI. They’re entertaining, sometimes surprising and occasionally honest, but not callous and hateful (like some departed host might have been).

  • bevfred says:

I’d really like to win any of them, Iriss in particular. But I really think the winner should be “elf pee.” I’m still choking!

  • Goose says:

Haven’t tried any of the Xerjoff’s yet, but I must say they sound very intriguing… you can never sample enough, right? This is a really generous draw for sure!

  • Geordan1244 says:

Richwood is my new favorite. I wore my decant several days last week (odd for me to even wear something two days in a row), then took a little break and wore it again today because I could smell it on the scarf I was going to wear.

There is a danger in trying fragrances of this cost, because sometimes, the fragrance is so good that danger says, “Buy ME! Buy ME!” incessently (sp) in my head. I’m scared to think about when exactly the wallet will decide to listen to the voice.

Anyhoo, please do not enter me in the draw. Just wanted to comment on Richwood (which I’m bound to do many more times in the future… it now resides among the holy trinity: Carnal Flower, Musc Ravageur, and Richwood (sorry SDV, it’s not you, and it’s not me – it’s Richwood).

  • Janet says:

I know what you mean about Richwood. I have a decant and it is beautiful but not quite there for me. I’ll have to try it again. I would love to try the others. Thanks for the fun draw!

  • maidenbliss says:

Thank you for your generosity, Patty, especially all of the thought you’re putting into being fair.
I’ve tried only the XXY and it’s a very posh scent.
The SUN is out today–that shall be my most important comment!

  • Sean says:

    OMG!!! X(erjoffs) marks the spot!!!!

Please enter me! I would love to win this treasure :)

  • Cheryl says:

By all means enter me in this draw. These seem so exclusive as to be unattainable to mere mortals.

  • Daniela says:

I would love to try any of them since they’re all new to me :) Thank you!

  • Connie says:

What a generous giveaway! I don’t know enough to be able to choose either so anything would be happily received. :-)

As for Idol, I have not seen that show in years. Perhaps I’ll tune in next time and see what I’ve been missing.

    Thank you, Patty! :x

  • Musette says:

I am ineligible for the draw but I do want to comment on AI. I rarely watch it but I do agree, Patty – if they could dump DAWWWG and replace him with RuPaul, in full drag of course…that would be phenomenal. I stumbled upon RuPaul’s Drag Race and that was alllll she wrote: I Am Hooked.

I would love to watch her tell the AI contestants:

    “and DON’T f&*k it up!”

    LOL!

    xoxoxo >-)

  • Anna says:

I’d love to sample any of them!

  • KathyT says:

I’d be happy to try any of them as I am terrible at picking something just on the notes. I am always surprised when I like the one that sounded least appealing.

I gave up on AI a couple of years ago, but I might need to tune in just to check out Steven Tyler and J-Lo.

    Thanks!

  • Alice C says:

I’d love to try any of them. Don’t put a gun to my head to choose, I don’t know enough to pick…

So glad to see that I’m not the only person who automatically transposes the X and the J…I don’t think our minds are in the gutter, I think we’re just trying to spell it in a way that’s more pronounceable. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!)

As for Idol. We have a television, and we watch television, we’ve just never watched that show…I have an aversion to ‘reality TV’. :)>-

  • Suzy Q says:

So nice you reviewed it twice!!

As for the giveaway, I’d be thrilled to try anything that came my way. If I don’t like it my Evil Scent Twin will. I’m curious about Irisss but I have a feeling I’d love Richwood.

  • Ann says:

Hi Patty! Great way to split up the Xerjoff treasure. This way, one lucky winner hits the jackpot and lots of other folks get some goodies too. Haven’t tried any of these yet and they all sound lovely, especially the Irisss and the Richwood.
And I’m right behind you in the choir, singing the praises of Le Labo’s Gaiac 10. It’s not fancy or complicated, but somehow they got the balance just right to make it the ultimate peaceful, comfort scent — just beautiful in its simplicity. I treasure my bottle. Here’s hoping they do what they did a year or two ago, and make all the city exclusives widely available in 2011!

    • Ann says:

BTW, I think it’s helpful to re-review scents from time to time, especially something that’s this good. The old-timers might be glad for the reminder and the new readers will enjoy it, too.

  • DinaC says:

I’d love to be entered into the drawing. I’m most interested in Irisss, since that’s one of my favorite notes. I don’t watch American Idol, though funny enough, I am a singer. I guess I just don’t like watching the painful audition process. My favorite musical program is Glee. :-)

  • WOW! Now THIS is a great giveaway!!

And with 11 potential winners, I have a shot! Woo hoo!

Part of me really wants to win the Xerjoffs, because they are so pricey that I can’t really afford to sample (and I live in nowheresville, so I’m not going to get to sniff them in the stores). But part of me loves Iris, so I kinda wanna sniff that too. :) There’s no bad way to win a giveaway!!

  • pam says:

Please enter me in the draw. I would love to sample any of them. But please label the Elf Pee so I can give my review. My favorite anything would include sandalwood, but am game for most anything.

Love it when I re-discover a fragrance I haven’t worn in awhile and am reminded of why I got it in the first place!

  • Isa says:

You are really generous, Patty! Thank you very much!

Any of the prizes would be great, but I think that I would love Richwood. Woody fragrances are my favorite now, and sandalwood makes me feel so comfortable… Patchouli has been my latest discovery and now I really need some on my collection.

Please, enter me in the draw and thank you again!

  • *jen says:

I’m just sad I somehow missed the elf pee review. Must go search for it.

As for AI, I miss Simon but admit that his schtick was getting old. I’m on the sayonara Randy train (sorry, Dawwg). He’s like an overpaid lump of clay at this point.
    *jen

  • GalileosDaughter says:

I’d love to try Irisss, aw c’mon, who am I kidding, I’d love to try them all! Please enter me in the draw.

J.Lo and Steven Tyler were inspired choices for judges this season. Steven Tyler always has a bon mot at the ready, it seems, and J.Lo is just looking more and more gorgeous each day.

  • smy says:

Ooh, please enter me in the draw! I of course would love to win the Discovery Set but would be thrilled with any of them.

I have to admit I haven’t watched American Idol this year. When the show started I was obsessed with it but now we don’t have TV reception (no cable, just a roku for Netflix instant play). But it’s hard to imagine the show without Simon.

  • OrbWeaver says:

Oh…they all sound wonderful. I’ve not tried any of them before so they all are of interest. American Idol??? never seen it …but Steven Tyler is a favorite so maybe I should tune in.

  • Sherri M. says:

I’m curious–cautiously curious given the price :-)–about the line but especially would like to try Iriss.

  • waftbyCarol says:

of course I’d love to win the grand prize…I have a decant of Richwood and Elle , have sniffed Ibitra ( really nice Iris heavy scent )…
I promise to spread the love and give away 6 sample sets from the Discovery Set over at WAFT…*GRIN*
I have never sniffed Gaiac…I can’t quite believe it but it is true .
Most of the Le Labo are too strident and sharp for me to wear , but I really love Vetiver 46 on my DH !

  • sara says:

I would love to enter the drawing. Your review of Guiac makes me want to try it. I have never watched American Idol but I do have a high-school-era soft spot for Steven Tyler.

  • Melissa says:

I have sniffed a number of the Xerjoffs and I would happily sniff more. It doesn’t really matter which one, although Irisss was very appealing. As for American Idol, I haven’t ever really watched it beyond a quick glance or two. But I might need to give it a try, just for Stephen Tyler.

  • sybil says:

I’m easy…I’ll take whatever samples you’ve got if I win. And we have no TV, although I’m a big fan of Stephen Tyler.

  • annamer says:

Hi There – I’d love to try any of them… please do enter me!

Just recently tried LeLabo Poivre – very nice on a cold winter’s day. I’ll have to send for the Giaic, it sounds perfect for February.

Sorry – don’t watch American Idol so I can’t comment there, although who knew Steven Tyler had a house on Lake Sunapee? Clearly out of that loop (and not sure that’s a bad thing).

Thanks for sharing your generous samples!

    • karin says:

Tyler’s from Massachusetts, so perhaps that’s why? Common for New Englanders to have summer camps/cottages in NH or Maine.

  • Irina says:

I would like so much to sample Irisss
    Richwood is interesting, also
    thanks for the draw

  • Marte says:

I would love to try any of these, but Modoc sounds very promising.

Thanks for this very generous draw! :)

  • rosarita says:

I’d love to try any of the X-nameIcan’tpronounce scents. Wonderful distraction from Arctic chill and a black & white world. Le Labo Gaiac sounds great, too.

  • DJ says:

Now I have to hunt down some Le Labo G. to sniff. I like going a’sniffin’ with purpose :)

I would be up for anything in the draw. I am probably less interested in Elle, XXY etc. and more interested in the others, but winners can’t be choosers?

As for American Idol, I know that UK X Factor always gets me at about the 6 week from the ending, so I start recording it. I even voted this year (don’t tell anyone).
I can’t imagine what JLo and Steven Tyler are like. Good Auntie/Bad Auntie?

It is foggy here, and I don’t mean just my brain!
    :)

  • moochebo says:

My favorite Le Labo is Vanille 44. I’m a bit of a vanilla fan, & this is one of my favorites. Love to sample some of the Xjeroffs, but the price kills me, so I would hate to love them & I probably would.. Oh well..

  • hongkongmom says:

Heck Patty…props to u for figuring all that out…so many variations, combinations, new names…Wise Queen Soloman I’de say. WHo wouldn”t like to win one of these generous prizes?

Now re:American Idol: Sadly I left it before Simon did…Enough was enough, besides Law and Order is that much more rivetting…especially the NY one! And well, um, perfume blogs take quite a bit of time!

  • aotearoa says:

Happy to say I’ve tried none of these and would be thrilled to win any of them at all! Thank you.

  • Lindaloo says:

As with most of the other commenters I’d be thrilled to win any of these, but I will admit my first choice would be the Discovery Set Part Two and my second choice would be the sample card set of Elle, Irisss, XXY and Homme.
As for American Idol, I’ve watched it only occasionally to keep my sister company. I’m with Natalie — no TV, but lots of time wasted on the Internet. (Reading perfume reviews and comments is research not procrastination!) Have to confess I did enjoy part of the Britain’s Got Talent contests, especially the dance groups.
Sorry you had to scrap all your hard work preparing a contest, but thanks for this opportunity with a random draw.
Always willing to read a re-review by you (even if it’s accidental).

  • Gisela says:

Winning anything from the line would be great, but if I could choose I would say Richwood or Iriss…

  • sunnlitt says:

Well, I am in agreement with most of the responses, which say that just about anything sounds nice and interesting.

I don’t watch Idol, but happened on it tonight.
There was a contestant from my hometown of Santa Cruz,
California. So,now I have someone to root for,
in a disinterested sort of way.

That Le Labo Gaiac sound luscious.

  • Masha says:

Well, I’d be happy to win any of the 11 generous prizes, and I say, keep Steven Tyler! I’m just saying that because I like the guy, I haven’t had any TV in over 12 years, so I haven’t got a clue, really. Oh well, more time to sniff new perfumes!

  • tammy says:

I’ve never seen AI, but we just found out that the daughter of a family friend made it to the next level, so we will start watching this week. Or rather, my husband will, as I don’t like watching people get criticized. I’ll just watch the part with our young friend.

I’d be thrilled to win any of these, and should any drams of elf pee make their way to me, I will selflessly pass them along to (Ms.)Christian.

  • Alica says:

Ahem, I would like to be in. Many thanks!

  • Madea says:

I’d like to win pretty much anything, to break up the boredom of winter.

I have trouble picturing J-Lo and likable in the same sentance. She comes off as really haughty, but I’ve never seen AI, so what do I know?

  • Sinyet says:

I’d love any of them! Is it me, or is the sensory deprivation of this gray and snowy winter making nice scent a psychological lifeline?

  • dianawr says:

Discovery Set Part II is the one most interesting to me.

And I am SUPER happy with Steven Tyler. To be honest I never liked Simon. I miss him not at all.

  • Sylvia says:

    Hmmm.
I would love to win a sample of the Richwood- I’m a new starter here and I don’t know which note I’m smelling a lot of the time, but I do know I LOVE Sandalwood! The Iriss does sound lovely too. And the Le Labo Gaiac! Sounds like perfect comfort woods!!! Alas, those prices and the miles…
There aren’t any ‘upscale’ stores here in middle america and we’re still frozen in, in any case, so I’d love a sample of any of them. Don’t you love getting stuff in the mail? ..I mean, besides bills. ; )
    Warm Thoughts your way! :)

  • taffynfontana says:

Well I suppose If I’m wishing I will wish big, would love the discovery set. The whole line is luxurious and decadent, so I am crossing my fingers and wishing for the best. Thanks

  • ElizabethN says:

Oh em gee, what a draw! Well sure, I’d love to try the Discovery set of Jerkoffs, er, Xerjoffs. But heck, I’d be happy with anything. :)

  • dee says:

Let’s see if my winning streak continues… I’d love to try the Xerjoff’s! :)

  • Tara says:

I love Steve Tyler and move him even more now!!!…I could totally live without J. Lo…

I have not tried any of the Xerjoffs and would be happy with any of them.

Also, you are killing me with the Le Labo Gaiac. I have been drying to sample it since it was released, but no living Tokyo had limited my access to it. I’ll have to hop over to the PC for a decant.

  • Denise B says:

I would love to win any of these, but the ones that sound the most intriguing to me are Richwood, because I’m a huge fan of sandalwood, and Irisss, because the press kit says it was created with “butter of Iris.” Yes, sometimes I’m a sucker for advertising copy…

  • Jen says:

Oh man I hope I win. I’d take elf pee at this point, but since it’s my bday today and I’m feeling glamourous (hubs gave me my first ever spa day!) I’ll say I’d love to win the iriss superlative esses and all.

  • Victoria says:

LOL! Just commenting on the double review thing… Ask me if I have not done something like this myself. R and I were just talking about it the other day. :)
At this point, it is just hard to remember.

  • nozknoz says:

I’d be delighted with any of these, March; however, I already have a decant of Irisss, so I’d leave that one for someone else. I haven’t thoroughly tested it against my other irises yet, but it did smell quite excellent at first test. I have a small sample of Damarose which smelled fairly amazing – I thought it was violet at first and then it became an unusual rose.

I haven’t actually seen Idol for years, but I love the idea of Stephen Tyler and J Lo.

  • Meg says:

It wouldn’t matter which I won, because the only thing I know about the Xerjoff line is “don’t even look, too expensive.” Plus, my favourite part of sampling is probably the anticipation of waiting for it to arrive in the mail, obsessively (crazily?!) checking each day. Yes, possibly even more than smelling the things.

I don’t have T.V., so nothing to say about Idol, other than to exress a general disbelief that it’s still running.

  • Natalie says:

Gosh, I’ll try anything — OK, almost anything — but if forced to choose at gunpoint, I’d say Iriss.

Can’t comment on American Idol — I’m one of those un-American weirdos without TV (don’t worry, I waste pleeenty of time on the Internet instead).

  • HikerChick says:

I am completely nonplused by American Idol. I have never seen it and don’t plan on starting now, not even for Steven “I have a vacation house on Lake Sunapee” Tyler.

And, as always, I’m game for anything you have the heart to offer. Please consider me entered.

  • Fernando says:

All of those look interesting, needless to say, but if I had to choose I’d choose Iriss, just for the name.

I haven’t seen the new Idol, sorry. After a while I just got tired of it, especially the endless parade of hopeless self-delusion…

  • I’d love to try any of the Xerjoffs, they are all unsniffed by me! I LOVE Le Labo Gaiac, isn’t it perfection? It’s the most delicious woody scent ever.

  • (Ms.)Christian says:

    Nice to see dissed here!

I’d just like to win one of your drawings, Patty. Even for just a dram of elf pee.

  • dissed says:

I’d like to sample any of them, really, but the expense is sort of mind-boggling. Plus that I can’t seem to wrap my brain around however you pronounce Xerjoff, and when I see it, I still read it with the x and j changing places and it comes out sort of Not Nice. But I’m working on that.

Have to google Le Labo Gaiac, I can’t remember whether I got around to trying that one.

    • Kim says:

Definitely interested in the Xerjoffs and love your solution!! Le Labo Gaiac is nice but I prefer the London Poivre exclusive – I like the extra pepper and patchouli. Wish there was an easier way to get these!! Would be nice if Le Labo made them available occasionally or annually, like Lutens does with the non-exports

      • Kim says:

oops – not sure how this ended up as a reply! sorry dissed! but I agree about the pronunciation – seriously, how is it pronounced?
