CHANEL: Coco by CHANEL: LIVE Video Sniff

Hello Perfume Possee, Portia from Australian Perfume Junkies with a solo CHANEL LIVE Video Sniff . I am all alone with a rather special fragrance. It’s filled with my usual screw ups and a bit of silliness, please take it in the fun vein it is intended. My potty mouth doesn’t get too out of control, well, maybe a bit…

As always special thanks to my BFF Kath for shooting and editing and TSO Jin for making it ready to watch on YouTube. And thanks to Alice F for reminding me about one of my faves that never gets enough skin time.

  • I’m a bit late to the party here, but I love your videos. You definitely made me want to get my hands on some vintage Coco.. like the most effective commercial ever..lol. I have tried the current version, probably at Sephora, and I remember liking it. Vintage sounds pretty awesome. 😀

  • Tara says:

love your video sniffs! 🙂 It’s so much fun to see you really getting into a perfume. Need to go smell me some Coco asap!

  • nozknoz says:

Portia, that was the most accurate perfume review ever!

I have an EdP spray – an elegant black lucite rectangle with beveled edges in gold, a gold metal band below the cap. It’s the Chanel version of the 2001 Space Odyssey black monolith – which is so RIGHT because Coco is out of this world!

  • solanace says:

Coco is my favourite Chanel, by far, Coromandel and its siblings included. The video sniffs are such a treat, and this one is particularly awesome! Thank’s Portia. As Gendalf said, it’s these little things that keep evil away.

  • Sally M says:

Excellent fun video Portia! Your enthusiasm is contagious. When I saw what you were going to be reviewing I ran upstairs and got my bottle of vintage parfum and dabbed along with you. GLORIOUS!! My husband was along the hallway in his office and stuck his head around the door – he asked if I was watching a porn flick with all of the “”oohing and ahhing” going on. I just said “No its just your average dirty lil bitch review”…. Thanks for the fun Portia – I needed some 🙂

    • Portia says:

Ha haHa! You husband sounds NAUGHTY!! I think I like him. So glad to have brought you a laugh, and that you got some vintage Coco Parfum on your skin. Win win!

  • Jackie b says:

Oh yes, we should have an edition (limited, not discontinued) of Portia’s greatest hits…this one would be on it!
Thanks for making my breakfast so entertaining!

  • RuthF says:

Portia’s all time greatest live video sniff! Love it!

  • Ann says:

Hiya, Portia! Love the video! I have been a Coco gal ever since it came out. I remember one Christmas, my DH gave me a wonderful set of the edp, mini parfum, shower gel and body lotion. Of course, these days I am way too perfume fickle to wear a scent consistently enough to use a whole bottle of it AND its body products, ha!

    • Portia says:

      YAY!! Hi Ann,
I bet you rock Coco. How thoughtful of DH, and recently I have been trawling for just such a set, albeit in single pieces, for my friend Alice. She is gutted that some of the body products have been discontinued. Yes, it’s hard to finish anything but I am making a dedicated effort to get through my soaps, shower gels, body lotions and all other extras. The bathroom currently has a very fine soap, bubble bath and a couple of bath oils. Otherwise I will die and they’ll have to have a jumble sale.

While I have never smelled the vintage version of Coco, I can never make up my mind about Coco. Like CK Obsession, I can tell that it’s ’80’s work and does smell a little dated. But I would never take Coco to be a Chanel. Some days, I like it but other days, no it’s just not for me. I do have a little bit of the parfum version to try out.

    • Portia says:

      Hi there eldarwen22,
Yes, Coco is the most in your face of the Chanels but I think it still has their distinctive smoothness and style. I love that you have some days where you can wear it and some not, I find that with quite a lot of my collection. Part of the fun for me is the rumination on who I feel like smelling of each day.
MMMM A bit of vintage parfum, so good.

  • Musette says:

this was one of the most fun moments I’ve had in AGES!!!! I just LOVED this!

March has a very interesting Coco story, which I will let her tell – but that story is the backstory to how I got hooked-ish on Coco. I have a vintage bottle she gave me and BLAM-OLA! is that some fabulosity, right there!

    You are just adorable, darling!!!

    • Portia says:

      Heya Musette,
How are the chickens? And the farm and family in general? I hope it’s all good.
That March is a good friend, and enabler. I would love to hear that story.

  • poodle says:

I’ve always loved Coco. I almost wore it today actually. The vintage is better than the modern but all I have now is the modern one. It’s still better than some of the other stuff out there at least.
You are just too darn adorable! Love your video sniffs.

    • Portia says:

      Hey Poodle,
Modern Coco is magic too. It still has a wonderful little purr in the back of its throat and gives me a little extra swagger.
Thank you, and I love YOU.

  • Lavanya says:

LOVED LOVED LOVED the video!! And just a few seconds in to the video I went straight to evilbay..:) I’d never been tempted to sniff Coco till March compared Marni to ‘wearing Coco and eating necco wafers’..I smelled the current version and thought it was quite nice. Now I MUST sniff the vintage! Thanks Portia!

  • Mary P. says:

All of your video reviews are wonderful, but I think of all of them I love this one the best. You are so much fun to watch and I can tell your love of fragrance is real and passionate. You are fantastic Portia! Oh, and I adore Coco as well, especially the vintage. I understand the swoon because that’s almost what I do after I spray it on as well, haha!

    • Portia says:

      MaryP,
You have put a big smile on my fave. Thank you.
Coco is so lovely, and we have terrific fun making videos for you. I can’t think of a better reason to swoon.

  • fleurdelys says:

Wait, I’m not clear on this – do you like Coco or not?

HA! I so enjoyed your enjoyment of this fragrance. Oddly enough (being the oriental lover that I am), Coco didn’t appeal to me at first test. I’ll have to keep my mind open and give this one another try.

  • Janice says:

I will! I knew it from way, way, way back but never had a bottle of it myself. Then when I got the perfume obsession, I got just a sample to revisit it.

  • Janice says:

I love this too, and I do have a little bit of the parfum but I never seem to wear it. Thanks for the reminder!

  • rosarita says:

Portia, I’ve been wearing Coco since the beginning, it’s one of my all time favorites. Loved watching you experience it’s gorgeousness for the first time!

    • Portia says:

      Hey there Rosarita,
We have the best time ever doing our silly videos. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
      Coco rocks.
Do you wear it day or dressy?
