Journey Woman by Amouage

  • Most bakers will tell you..making light, plain baked goods is significantly more difficult than making heavier pastry.  An egg too many in a dense chocolate cake? You can always ‘fix’ it with a ganache or buttercream.  But …sponge cake?  Sables?  You’d better have the best ingredients and a deft hand or you will end up with something more in line with the baked goods at Safeway.
I believe the same holds with perfume.  A ‘light’ fragrance, with iffy ingredients and a careless hand comes out much like that bad sponge cake.  But a light scent, done with dexterity and exceptional ingredients….well, that is like a Pierre Herme sable, in Paris, on a perfect Spring Day.
Which brings me to Amouage Journey – Woman.  First, let me say that I’m thrilled that there are Amouages I am not fond of, otherwise my credibility could easily be called into question.  Because when I fall in love with an Amouage?  I fall IN LOVE!!!  and Journey Woman?  I got my sample on 2May and I have happily worn this since, spritzing with abandon…because it’s such a light, airy beauty.   And I’ll be wearing it for the rest of this week, too!!!  An elegant, light floral, with a touch of fruit. However, just let’s be clear on this, okay?  This is NOT a fruity-floral.  This is blonde Beloved’s gamin, dark-haired little sister, who has just come into her own, a la Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina.  This wears very lightly luxe on me, with the jasmine tea opening giving an impression of fresh minted geranium, with osmanthus flowers in a vase on the terrace and the apricot to give it a touch of warm sensuality.    It’s fresh but not bracingly so, for which I am forever grateful.  This is one a perfume that conjures spotless elegance, without a hair out of place…but nothing overdone.  Much like Miss Hepburn.  I swear, she could’ve been on the run from Godzilla and still looked perfection itself.  And, to my nose, Journey is the personification of that type of style.  This is a very pretty perfume.   And I am in its thrall.  It lasts forever, too.  I just spritz a lot throughout the day because I like how it smells in the open.  And the middle.  And the drydown.
journeyThe first thing Christopher Chong asked me was ” does it wear ‘light’ on you?’ because, apparently, Journey is a bit of a chameleon.  On me, it feels as light and airy as a champagne-scented sable…on Christopher (as well as El O) it wears a little bit heavier.  He says that men find it heavier.  I haven’t had a chance to try it on another woman….so…let’s do a leeetle draw!  This is for the ladies.  I will have Bruno pull a gal’s name out of the hat (so please, lmk that you are female) to see if it wears light or heavy on you.
Guys, do not despair.  I’ll pull a guy  (Bruno is all about the laydeez) – and you can see how it wears on you as well!  So..I know it’s non-PC as hell but please, state your gender.  It’s for SCIENCE, y’all!
It’s not here yet – I have my little sample but no further info …and there’s a Journey for Men as well…but right now I’m rolling around with Journey Woman.  So we’ll get to the man’s in the next installment, okay?

Between Mother’s day, my daughter’s birthday, and my DH being sick, I am just now getting around to my usually daily perfume reading routine…IF it is not too late, pls enter me in the draw! I am very curious about this frag; all the Amouage’s I have tried could not possibly have been defined as “light” on me, and in the end there is only one I really enjoyed, Ubar. Would love to try this one…and yes, I am female

  • Mezzogiorno says:

I would also love to enter the draw if it’s not too late! I’m rockin’ the XX.

  • Diana says:

Sounds yummy. Am I too late to enter the draw? If not, I’m female and would love to have my name in the hat.

  • maggiecat says:

I want to try this SO much. Thanks for the review and the draw.

  • Kimberly says:

Female here, and a giant Amouage fan. I have dreamed of a honeyed vanilla from this house and boom, here it is! I am beyond excited and would love to win a sample!

  • Rossella says:

Hi , Patty ! 🙂 i totally adore Amouage Memoir Woman and I’m so eager to try this wonderful new fragrance…Where could I have a sample ? I could find it at the store in Rome just in june but if it would be possible to know it before I should be very very very happy ! Bye *—-*

  • rosiegreen says:

I am a woman and I would love to try this Journey. I need an Amouage to love.

  • Sherri says:

Sounds gorgeous! I’m having a hard time with the idea of Amouage and “light” in the same sentence. Do you mean delicate, as in Dia? Hmmm… I am not as fond of Ciel and Reflection, which are a little “lighter” than the other gorgeous orientals and florientals of the line, so this could go either way. Very interesting!

  • I’m a woman, and an Amouage freak mainly because I enjoy the heft of their perfumes. However, albeit light, this one sounds amazing by your description and the notes. Thank you for the draw, Musette!

  • sweetharmony8 says:

    I’m a woman! I love anything leather–and Audrey Hepburn-esque

  • Brooke says:

There are really only three lines where I stop everything and jump to try their newest release, even if it means going to the ends of the earth to find a sample. Of course Amouage is at the top of the list. I am intrigued to to try something that might wear lighter, especially going into the warm months. The notes, especially the osmanthus and jasmine tea, are right in my summertime wheelhouse. And the bottle – ABFAB! Lemming alert.

  • Marie C says:

Wow – that sounds amazing! This GAL would love to try it!!

  • poodletwins says:

Wow, Audrey H. and Amouage! I am female and the notes for Journey sound so promising. There is nothing in there that I don’t love. Please enter me in too. I haven’t tried any Amouage yet so this would be great. I normally go for lush, dense perfumes but I wouldn’t turn down an airy Amouage.

  • Jackie b says:

I love Amouage and wore Epic yesterday as I had been reading about the new Journey. Lady lemming here!

  • Kathleen BB says:

This female person would love to try a sample of Amouage Journey. Currently my favorite is Ubar – the others, I recognize their beauty but do not often reach for them.

  • ChristineB says:

Female and have flirted with Amouage Lyric for a few years but never taken the plunge for a bottle. Have been thinking recently I should sample more Amouage fragrances.

  • edpgypsy says:

Female here… would love to try Journey as it sounds delightful! Thank you!

  • Esther Urwin says:

I am female and a card carrying Amouage fan. Please sign me up to add to my collection.

  • Stephanie Scharnhorst says:

I’m dying to try this! I’ve only recently fallen in love with Amouage, and have loved almost everything I’ve sampled! I only have one full bottle and it’s Beloved Woman! This just sounds so gorgeous! This GIRL is dying to smell this! Thank you for the opportunity!
    Stephanie Scharnhorst. <3

  • Haunani says:

I have yet to find “my” Amouage, though a couple have come close. I like light, I like airy, and this sounds promising! This gal thanks you for the draw.

  • peppermoon says:

Hi there! Female and dying to try something from Amouage. I think my skin definitely does cause scents to skew feminine. It amps sweetness, vanilla and floral notes and can make even men’s scents smell feminine.

  • Ryan says:

Male- Very excited to smell the Journey duo along with Opus VIII this year. The pyramid sounds fantastic, and I’m continually impressed by Chris Chong. And these new bottles look amazing, can’t wait to hold one in my hand!

  • karin says:

Oh! Anxious to try this one. Love Amouage. Thanks, Anita! I am WOMAN! 😉

  • malsnano86 says:

If I’m honest, I’ll cop to liking a well-done fruity floral or two. Or six. 🙂 Girl here.

So this is lighter than Beloved Woman? As it turns out, I did not get on with that one. It was powdery to the nth degree on me, and not all that pleasant, though the florals in it were just lovely. But aren’t those boxes pretty? OOOOH.

  • Tatiana says:

Gah, I want to try this one and I’m a girl. I should just hand over my wallet to the folks at Amouage.

  • eldarwen22 says:

This is the first time that I am hearing about Journey. It seems like just yesterday that Amouage Fate was just released. I have to try this!

  • Bastet says:

I am female, Amouage is one of my favorites (esp. Jubilation 25 and Gold Woman) and I would love to try Journey Woman. Thanks for the draw!

  • silvrolive says:

Sounds Delightful. Love to try it! I am female 🙂

  • Lynne Marie says:

I would love to try Journey for women. I’ve yet to find an Amouage that “wears light” on me. The ones I love are gorgeous, but they take over me AND the room (I’m talking to you, Dia.) Yes, I’m a girl!

  • foxbins says:

I’m female and have tried all the Amouage’s EXCEPT Beloved so your comparison of “blonde Beloved” to Journey’s “gamine sister” was lost to me. However, I am really wanting to try this after you said it was not a fruity-floral. I don’t do fruity florals very well.

Thanks for the review, the Posse always makes my morning more interesting!

  • Dina56 says:

Another curious female here who would love to try the new Amouage. Thanks for the draw!

  • Samantha L says:

You said the magic words: Jasmine, apricot and osmanthus…if it’s got to be even a little fruity-ish and floral it should definitely contain those notes! I’d love to try it and I’m female…thanks Musette!!

  • AnnieA says:

Ms. Annie would love to try a new Amouage.

  • Dana says:

Lady, here! Would love to try this. Thanks for the opportunity.

  • TheLunarWhale says:

Woman here, dying to try this! It sounds exquisite.

  • jirish says:

I’m a woman and would love to try this – don’t find many light scents that I also find complex enough to love.

  • London says:

Sounds amazing… I am a woman but I could try it on my husband too!

  • Yammi. It sounds sooo interesting, like everythink from Amouage! I love this brand and hope soon to be able to test the 2 new scents! I’m male and live in Germany!..It’s a very interesting to compare the scent on the different genders! I have seen a lot of differences in the last years and it’s really fascinating how big can be the influense of the skin and the gender. I hope you will choose me 😛

  • katrin says:

Your description of it, Musette, sounds intriguing. Please include me in the draw, I’m female.

  • Maura says:

Female! Can’t imagine an Amouage wearing lightly so would love to try!

  • lemoncake says:

Yes, I’m female. I’ve been testing some different Amouages and so far like Epic Woman, Lyric Woman and Jubilation best.

  • kizzers says:

I’m a girl (not a girly girl, but a girl none the less) and I have yet to find an Amouage that likes me, but the notes in this sound right up my street. Thanks for the draw x

  • Ann says:

Howdy, sweetie! Mmmm … great review; you have my mouth watering to try this. Even if I can’t wear an Amouage, I can always appreciate its quality and attention to detail. No draw for me, of course. Hugs to you and Bruno!!

  • Alexander Rachev says:

I can’t wait to try theese new beauties from Amouage. My favorite brand!
I’m realy curious about both of them.
As a male I realy appreciate some of the female versions.Lyric and Jubilation 25 are my favourite. I own a bottle of Jubilation 25 extrait the female version and I find it perfect fit for a men and exceptional perfume.

  • trickyholly says:

    A light Amouge? intriguing! Thanks!

  • rosarita says:

I’m a woman, w-o-m-a-n, and this Amouage sounds lovely 🙂

  • Streph says:

Man, I’d love to try this. Thanks for the draw.

  • zazie says:

When I first saw the announcement of Journey (I think it was a couple of days ago at nst), my knees got week!!!! The perfect list of notes, one that matched a very specific “leathery osmanthus” perfume craving of mine!!!!;)
…As if I had any business of craving any more perfumes than those I’ve already got…

I am surprised to find out it is rather light, though I gather you have no objections with it.
So now I’m even more curious…
Are the white and orange flowers recognizeable and lush? Is the leather prominent? And does the mimosa add a subtle powder?
O my, too many questions, too much excitement!!!!
Thanks for the review and draw.
Yes, I’m shameless in applying for the draw, given than Bruno has already bee so generous with me (p.s. have you received my mail? My RL name is Camilla)!!!!Blame my shameless and greedy nose, it’s so distressing to have an unbehaving body part!!! 😉

  • The notes on Journey sound really good. I definitely want to try it. I have only tried a few Amouages so far. I’m a lady, Bruno, pick me!

  • It sounds fabulous. Yes, I like everything related to Audrey hepburn, and her efortless elegance and grace. Yes, I want to try it. Yes, I am a female. Yes, I live in Europe :).

  • Hana says:

I’m a woman;) and I would love to try Amouage Journey Woman!

    Hana

  • Irina says:

Hi, Mussette- I’m in Bruno’s pile
would love to be able to try it
    Thanks

  • Laurels says:

Woman, here, although the odds look to be more favorable for the men. A lot of things seem to wear light on me, which may be why I tend to prefer heavy scents. Always up for smelling an Amouage, though.

  • Hi Musette. 🙂 This sounds fascinating! Gawd, I can’t believe, this one’s got everything I love!!!
I’m a gal, Bruno, pick me, pick me!! 😀

  • taffyj says:

I am woman hear me roar…kind of like that beastie Godzilla.
Love Audrey! Maybe Journey will make me feel like I’m wearing capri pants, ballet flats and mysterious sunglasses.

  • RuthF says:

I’m female! I love the name of this, the bottle and the notes and your description sound divine!

  • missyl says:

This sounds beautiful! I am female and thank you for the draw! 🙂

  • Colleen says:

Gold W is my favorite Amouage, followed closely by Dia W. Journey W sounds right up my alley. I’m female, by the way 😉

  • Janet in California says:

I am woman, I need some Journey! Really, this sounds very interesting and lovely.

  • Tiffanie says:

Apricot , honey, saffron – they all sound delicious. The other notes are lovely, too. This girl wants to give it a test!

  • Janice says:

A light, airy Amouage? I’ve been anxious to try this one, even more now that I’ve read your description. I’m a woman, and hoping Bruno will pick my name…

  • leathermountain says:

For the sake of science, let’s go with female. I do love me some science.

  • Monoatomic says:

With the way that the notes read, both light or not so light seem okay! Female here, but willing to stealth-spray the hubby if it will help my odds…. 🙂

  • Maya says:

Female. I have tried about 4 or 5 Amouage perfumes and none of them work for me. Light and airy sounds like it has possibilities.

  • Sapphire says:

Hi, I am female. Have tried very few Amouages, but would love to give this one a try after your description. Thanks!!

  • Audrey says:

Not that Audrey but another one but would love to try!

  • Jennie says:

Yep, please put in the female draw (or the female drawer!). Would love to try this.

  • cara says:

I’ve never tried an Amouage, but this one sounds right up my alley! Love Audrey too, so effortlessly chic and perfect, what more can I say about her that hasn’t already been said? PS, I’m a girl 😉

  • Elena says:

Tea? Leather? Tobacco? Cardamom? And by freakin’ Amouage?? Holy lord I need to get my hands on this RIGHT NOW. I am a woman, and if I don’t happen to win this, I am ordering a sample immediately. And then being sad that I can’t afford a FB…

  • spiker says:

Oh dear… I promised I’d save my pennies, but this sounds lovely. I’m always looking for good, lighter scents. Please do enter me!

  • furriner says:

    I’m a boy! I’m a boy!

Actually, I have sampled plenty of Amouage men’s and the Opuses, but not the women’s so much. I need to do that.

  • taleofahare says:

Female 🙂 and would love a chance to test my airy-ness. And I too think Audrey Hepburn would look like perfection running from Godzilla. But I think Godzilla would probably put his hide down over the puddles for her rather than chasing her. 🙂

  • Ellen says:

I don’t have much in the way of Amouage. I love Miss Hepburn in anything and I’d love to try this. Thank you for the opportunity an I am female.

  • Caroline says:

Hey Musette, this gal’s just dying to try Journey Woman. I’m intrigued because many Amouages wear heavy on me–so light & airy as champagne-scented sable sounds promising! Thanks for the draw.
