TO-BUY List! What’s On Your TO-BUY List?

OK POSSE! Lovely to be with you all today and I have been looking at my TO-BUY List. You may know that we recently bought an apartment and have been refitting it to suit us. It’s always harder to do a refurb to live in because you want to minimise the “I Wish We Had……” list. So most of my money and attention has been directed towards getting that right and doing it on a budget because Jin & I are doing it together which limits my spend. YAY! I love working within parameters, it makes it even more fun and Jin LOVES looking for bargains. I don’t know how he does it but somehow he manages to get us into really cost effective shops that offer the same or better than we are looking for at a cheaper rate, he has saved us thousands.

TO-BUY List! What’s On Your TO-BUY List?

What does that have to do with my TO-BUY List? Well, I’ve been so busy with renovating, working and writing about fragrance that my list has not had a thing ticked off it for ages. So there are quite a few items on the list. Some have been there for YEARS and others are brand new…….

  • Robert H. says:

Oh. My. God. Portia your list is over the top! How the HELL do you get your new ‘fumes in the house without giving Jin a stroke?? My list is much more modest, although (sadly) not in price…

    Chemise Blanche by LM Parfums
Iniezione di Morfina by Peccato Originale
    Velvet Sublime by D.&G.
Essence Of Melina by Neil Morris
Rue de Lilas (vintage) by Phaedon

    • HA! Robert I earn my money and it’s none of Jin’s business what I do with it. It really never comes up though except there are some months, usually after a holiday, when we choose to eat at home and watch videos. We are very open about everything except that, though I do give him some advice when he wants or needs it.
The list is over the top, I agree, but some of those bottles have been on the list for years. I think one of them has even been discontinued, though I have the LuckyScent crew looking for it for me.

You have some really cool stuff on your wishlist, such good taste Robert.
      Portia xx

  • Patch Girl says:

Oh, this list-making is making me greedy!

Une Rose, FM (Went through the travel size like that!)
Mohur, NV (I go back and forth, longevity vs price, but I miss my samples)
    Plum Japonaise, TF
Unum Lavs (Love, love, loved my sample)
    Neroli, Profumum Roma

  • Anne says:

Hmm… mostly it a dream list as I am a poor graduate student, but c’est la vie.

Amouage: Dia, Ciel and Jubilation 25
Neela Vermeire: Mohur extrait (Australia. .. gah), Bombay Bling and Ashoka
    Naomi Goodsir: Bois d’Ascèse
    Le Labo: Patchouli
Guerlain: Vetiver and more vintage shalimar decant.
SL: Tuberose Criminelle, Serge Noire, Musc Khubali Khan, Borneo.
    Mono di Orio: Violette Fumée
    Lalique: Encre Noire
    Annick Goutal: Sables
L’Artisan parfumeur: Tea for 2, Camille
    Hedonist
Papillon: Anubis (this might be a reallistic purchase)
    Ormonde Jayne: Champaca (I think)

    • Hey Anne,
As our dumb as all fuck treasurer said recently, Get a Good Paying Job. You’ll have a house and fragrance!
Seriously though, are you in Sydney? Any of the major centres? There is an alive & kicking swap culture in Australia. Join Aussie Fragrance Network on facebook.
As to the Neela Vermeires, should you save your pennies I am seeing Neela in January and will happily mule your frag back to Australia.
      Portia xx

      • Anne says:

        Hey Portia,
Ah, if only our Beloved Leader and the Mad Eyed Minister for Education would stop cutting jobs and funding from the university sector. Possibly even wise up that the Arts are not actually an optional extra despite our inability to cure cancer, or that Science is not just for when you feel like it. Then I might be able to get one of those Good Paying Jobs (ongoing). Maybe his, the little shit.
On the upside, I did snag a decent job yesterday for a short period, so I might be able to impose upon your impression of a Caravanserai.
I am in Melbourne, the issue is always that I rarely have anything to swap! But will go find my FB.

  • mals86 says:

Surprisingly, I’ve only got one thing on the to-buy list, and that’s DelRae Wit.

Exciting to hear about the new abode – I wish you and Jin best of luck with the refurbishment.

  • Ann says:

Hiya, Portia! So glad to hear the apartment is coming along so well — when it’s all finished, perhaps you can post pics and have a Portia House Beautiful Pose post! 🙂 I don’t tend to covet full bottles too much anymore, but am eying decants of :
    1. Penhaligon’s Ostara
    2. Hermes’ Iris Ukiyoe
    3. Guerlain Cuir Beluga,
    4. Chanel 1932 and
    5. Amouage Ubar

plus some others that I’ll think of at 3 a.m. this morning, ha!

  • Valerie says:

Oh boy this is too tempting but here my list for now
    1. Guerlain Cuir Beluga
    2. Guerlain Gourmand Coquin
    3. Mona Di Orio – Les nombres d’or – Vanille
4.Maitre Parfumier et Gantier – Ambre Precieux
    5.Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge
    6.L’Artisan Parfumeur Nuit de Tubereuse
    7. Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan
    8. Serge Lutens Arabie
    9. Annick Goutal Songes
    10. M Micallef Ananda Dolce

  • Michele42 says:

Caron’s Nuit De Noel is one of my favorite holiday perfumes!

I’ve been keeping a running list every time I read a perfume review. I’ve had some luck with blind buys, but I think I need to just order a few decants before spending this time! At the top of my list:

    1. Vero Profumo’s Onda
    2. Frapin’s Nevermore
    3. Moss Gown from Providence Perfume Co
    4. Byredo’s Mojave Ghost
    5. Neela Vereire’s Mohur Extrait

    • Michele42,
The quickest way to have a cupboard full of perfume you don’t wear is blind buying. Sample and then buy what you REALLY want.
Sorry to preach but it worries me.
The list you’ve curated is freaking gorgeous! Mohur Extrait is 2DIE4
      Portia xx

  • Annija says:

My list is lot more shorter! I just got into the perfume world and have been sampling like crazy for the past few months. But now is the time to commit to full bottles, I think. The first ones will be:
    1. Parfum d’Empire – Ambre Russe;
    2. Frederic Malle – Portrait of a Lady;
    3. Frederic Malle – Musc Ravageur.

  • Eloquaint says:

I’ve shortened my bottle list lately by buying Slumberhouse Kiste and Neil Morris Gotham, and in July I’m going to Osswald in NY, where my vacation celebration bottle will likely be L’Ombre Fauve. Mostly these days I buy decants. I’m dying for some Mamluk, by Xjerkoff (sp?), and some more Djedi…just a drop…

  • tammy says:

Several hundred bottles in to this beautiful madness, so thankfully my To Buy list is much shorter than it used to be!

In no particular order, and forgive my butchering of the names, I’m going by memory here:

    M. Micallef Rose Extreme. I adore this one, but at $600, it is likely to languish on the list a good while.
    Hedonist
    PdN Weekend in Deauville
    Carthusia Gelsomini de Capri
    Carthusia Aria de Capri
Mona Di Orio Violet Fumee and Rose Etoile de Hollande ( and I’d love to try more of this line)
    Histoires de Parfums Noir Patchouli
    Chanel 31 Rue de Cambon
    TDC Osmanthus
    TDC Bois D Iris
Atelier Cologne Trefle Plur, Sud Magnolia and I am dying to try Rose Anonyme, and several others
Bruno Acampora Jasmine (oil) and no doubt others of his that I can’t recall at the moment.

And perhaps decants of Chanel Misia and 28 La Pausa

Okay, not so short after all. Le Sigh.

    Fun post!

    • tammy says:

Damn, there are several Nina Ricci’s that belong here, too; Fille D’ Eve, Couer Joie, Capricci, and Farouche.

  • Elisa P says:

In reality I buy very little but my “really would live to own” list is:

    Amouage Jubilation xxv
Tauer Sotto la Luna Gardenia & Air du Desert Morocain
FM Dans Tes Bras and FB of Iris Poudre(travel sizes don’t count ;-))
    Caron Aimez Moi &Parfum Sacre
SL Feminite de Bois and Bois de Violette
SSS Tabac Aurea & Ambre Noir & To Dream
    ELDO Jasmin et Cigarette
Guerlain L’Heure Bleue and Apres L’Ondee
    Tom Ford Plum Japonaise
    Olympic Orchids Golden Cattleya
    Diptyque Eau Lente
    Different Co. Bois d’Iris
    Thank goodness for decants!

  • eldarwen22 says:

I have quite a bit on my to buy list but I can’t remember most of them. I do know that L’Heure de Nuit, more vintage Mitsouko is on it along with Silver Iris Mist and Sarrasins.

  • Tatiana says:

Only one item on my to buy list right now. Hermes 24, Faubourg extrait. There are some vintages I would love too, but I’ve tired of the whole bid for them on-line, only to find out they’ve gone off or their fakes or have been watered down thing. So if I stumble across one of them in a shop somewhere or if one gets listed in one the perfume groups I belong, I’ll pounce on it like a cat on it’s prey.
Congrats on the new apartment. Wishing you the best getting it fitted out the way you like.

    • Ahhhhhh what a lovely choice Tatiana,
I hope you get it. Gorgeous. Hermes 24, Faubourg extrait. Faint.
Yes, the apartment comes on apace, bedding for tiles laid today. Very exciting.

  • thegoddessrena says:

Like you, my list is in the dozens so some highlights are:
    Arabian Horse
    Indigo Vanilla
    Swan Princess
    Rozy voile d’extrait
    French Kiss
    Ambre Fetiche
    Elie Saab L’eau Couture
    Musc Ravageur
Carpathian Oud Cologne (if this is ever brought back from being discontinued)

  • Suzy Q says:

Lists!! I love reading people’s lists. My is short because I’m not convinced I need full bottles of all the things I like. Decants may suffice. Rozy falls into this category and I’m not yet sure which version I like best anyway.

    Chanel Bois des Isles
    Chanel Misia
    Frederic Malle En Passant
L’artisan Parfumeur Nuit de Tubereuse –buying it soon, to replace the FB I drained

  • SmellyDandelion says:

Oh wow…quite a list, but my is certainly shorter because I have been on a crazy spending spree perfume-wise. Still…is there no end to my greed? Below:

    1- SL Bois de Violette
    2- Parfumerie General Isparta
    3- Chanel Coromandel
    4- Malle Une Rose
    5- Papillon Tobacco Rose

    well…for now, at least.

  • RuthF says:

    Ashoka- that is all!

  • March says:

I’m so excited for you and your new abode, although I know it’s a tonnnnn of work. My to-buy list is so short: I want that Guerlain Desert thingamabob. Given that it’s $300(?)ish a bottle, it’s probably not happening any time soon. 🙂

  • rosarita313 says:

I’m glad to see Sushi Imperial on your list, Portia, it’s so good and I don’t see it mentioned often these days. My summer wish list is Monyette Paris and En Voyage perfumes Go Ask Alice. Seville l’Aube was on it but I’ve swapped for another decant recently so I’m good for now.

For fall, I want to buy a bottle of Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze and Aroma M Geisha Noir – the Geisha Noir is a long time wish. Decants of Commes des Garcons Black and SL 5:00 Gingembre. So really my perfume wishlist is pretty small, but I have wish lists in other categories too. ????

  • Tara says:

Portia you are amazing, this is an awe-inspiring list.

Like Jackie b, I have been buying the ones I want this year so nothing currently on the To Buy List.
At the moment, the perfume I am resisting buying unsniffed is Burlesque by Maira Candida Gentile and if money were no object and I was out of orange blossom I’d.get Cologne Indelibile.

  • Jackie b says:

Wow Portia, that is quite a list!
My list is quite short because I keep succumbing to purchases, but at present it is
    1. Mohur and preferably the extrait. Do I have to go to the moon or something to get this to Australia?
    2. Mandorla di Sicilia
    3. Bois des Iles
    4. Cuir Beluga
    5. Rozy edp
    6. By Kilian Incense Oud. For the bottle

I look forward to reading everyone else’s lists!
