Happy New Year — welcome, 2017!

2017
Happy New Year and welcome, 2017! Hope all of you wonderful Posse folks are enjoying the holiday and that your new year is off to a good start. What did you do to celebrate? What scent did you wear? Do you have any special traditions you use as part of your celebration? I know here in the South, eating collard greens and black-eyed peas is supposed to bring you luck in the new year. I’ve missed out on that so far in 2017, but it’s not too late. šŸ™‚

I was so excited this year because my DH had the whole weekend off and could ring in 2017 not at work. Usually he has to work on New Year’s Eve and only occasionally has he made it home in time for the big ball drop. So in honor of this momentous occasion, I put on my favorite red lipstick (and eyeliner, too, woo-hoo!), wore Clive Christian C (so rich and luxe), and we went out to eat. We forgot the champagne, so instead I made some “skinny” homemade eggnog (all the store-bought ones are SO high in carbs, sugar and fat), and it was delicious. Then on New Year’s Day took it easy for the most part, just getting some little odds and ends done. Debating whether or not to work today (Monday, the observed holiday day, at least for the U.S.), as my small office is very flexible about things like that. Also, I’m in month two of doing Weight Watchers and am feeling pretty good (more energy, etc.), so I think this year may be my best one yet.

Anyhoo, would love to hear what you’re up to for the start of 2017. Hope it’s a wonderful and blessed year for each of you, and that your dreams (fragrant and otherwise) come true. We here at the Posse are so thankful to have another year to share perfume fun and more with all of you!

*** BTW, here’s the link to the eggnog recipe I used. I normally don’t use Splenda, etc., but did just for this. And it’s easily adjusted without.

Hope you enjoy it!

Happy New Year! It kicked off quietly, with a comfortable lack of fanfare. In keeping with that theme, I wore Starck’s Peau de Soie (courtesy of you lovely Posse folk via a sample draw!). All things culminated in a lovely, frosty, fragrant New Years. Cheers to 2017!

    • Ann says:

Congrats, Paige, on winning the sample draw. So glad you got something you loved and it helped you usher in 2017 with a fragrant bang!

  • Musette says:

Happy New Year, darling! Glad you could ring it in with your beloved! Ours was quiet – a nice dinner at home, followed by a movie (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot), followed by bed waaay before midnight. Then a lovely brunch on NYDay, with blackeyed peas, of course. xoxoxoA

    • Ann says:

Hiya, doll! Sounds like a perfect weekend to me. And as my late, beloved father-in-law used to say as he went to bed about 8:30 on Dec. 31: “The new year will arrive just fine without me.” šŸ™‚

  • rosarita313 says:

Hi, Ann! That red lipstick link is fun šŸ™‚ Inspired by my bold best friend, makeup artist daughter and you, my dear, I have really fallen hard for red lipstick since Thanksgiving, aided by all the good holiday sales of course. I’m trying to boost my image a little this year.

    • Ann says:

Whoo-hoo, Rosarita! So glad you’re a red lipstick convert — you’re one of us now! šŸ™‚ I feel practically naked without mine anymore. Hope you’re doing well, feeling good and having a great 2017 so far!

  • solanace says:

Happy New Year, Posse! May the Force be with us all.

    • Ann says:

The same to you, Solanace! Man, it is such a bummer about Carrie Fisher AND Debbie Reynolds, isn’t it? Two cool ladies lost in such a short time.

  • March says:

Hey you! Very quiet here, in a good way. All the kids were home, which of course thrills me.

    • Ann says:

Hi, sweetie! So glad you had a nice NY weekend with all your kiddos — that is the best, isn’t it?

  • Portia says:

Happy New Year Ann. Good luck with the Weight watchers.
    Portia xx

    • Ann says:

Howdy, Portia! Thanks, dear — you, too! And hope you’re enjoying your new bath and shower gels.

  • Neva says:

This year I decided to spend the New Year’s Eve alone at home because 2016 was a complicated year and I wanted to make sure to kick it in the back when it was over. People say it’s all lessons we have to learn so for 2017 I’ve decided to find out what I had to learn and make the best of it. I will meditate more, I will dance more to funky music and I will be very gentle to myself.
On NYE I wore my dear Wrappings by Clinique (body lotion + perfume). It’s my favourite spring scent and December was so cold that I’m longing for spring already.
Thanks for all the lovely stories and a happy New Year to everyone!

    • Ann says:

Neva, hope you are doing OK and that your NYE of solitude was good for you. BTW, I think it’s a great idea for us to be more gentle on ourselves, too. And I know you smelled so lovely in that wonderful Wrappings! You’ve got me wanting to go dig mine out now.

  • Spring-pansy says:

Adding a vote for sharing your eggnog recipe please! I had a wonderful weekend with (older) kids home and lots of football watching and cooking together. I wore my new DSH Gingembre. Happy 2017!

    • Ann says:

Yum, Spring-panty, you smelled great! Sounds like a great NY weekend. P.S. Will link to the recipe up in the main post after I’ve chatted with everyone. Thanks!

  • Happy 2017, from the very cold PacNW!

Black-eyed peas and ham hocks are in the slow cooker, cornbread is baked and the collards are waiting to be sauteed and added at the last minute. Had our New Years day lunch of bagels, cream cheese and locally-smoked lox. Wearing Narciso Poudree and just sitting down to an hours worth of writing or so.

Right now my wish for 2017 is to forego all the “doom-and-gloom” predictions and just hope and pray for the best. And lots of good perfume!! -Robert H.

    • Ann says:

All right, Robert — way to go on the peas, ham and cornbread! With all that going on, you’ll likely win the lottery! šŸ˜‰ And, boy, do your bagels, cream cheese and lox sound good. I’m seconding you on nixing the “doom and gloom” — I have faith that everything will work out all right for the coming years.

  • Boy do I love wearing my red lipsticks. And I’m always searching for that perfect red…Anyway we had a lovely and quiet NYE with my 15 year old’s best friend over for the night and good food and games with husband and 9 year old. Getting over the crud so low energy this year. Still, wore my very vintage L’Aimant because I needed something old and loved and comforting and I’m always bowled over by how gorgeous that perfume is- somehow I always forget and it surprises me again. Will be moving this month so trying not to stress too much- overall I know it will be wonderful. Here’s to a coming year of big love, small treasures, and simple pleasures!

    • Ann says:

Yay for another red lipstick fan! I couldn’t live without it. And glad to see you wearing your vintage L’Aimant — so good that you’re enjoying it and not hoarding it. I know you smelled terrific. Thanks for all the good wishes and right back atcha!

  • Tara C says:

We had a quiet night at home with the dogs, sipping fine champagne, which was just perfect. Ordered myself a bottle of Palissandre d’Or to ring in the new year. šŸ™‚ I have all kinds of ambitious goals for myself but have already made a good dent in goal number one, which is to get stronger and more flexible – started yoga classes 2 weeks ago. Felt like I had been beaten with a stick, but the soreness is already starting to get better, so that’s a good sign. LOL. Wishing everyone at Perfume Posse a happy new year!!

    • Ann says:

Hi, Tara! That does sound like a perfect night. And good for you for starting yoga. What kind are you doing? Yoga has always intrigued me but I’m so inflexible (and with bad knees can’t get up and down off the floor), so it may have to wait until I’ve lost more weight. HMY to you, too!

  • rickyrebarco says:

A quiet New Year’s here and those are the best kind. I’m stepping full time into my minimalist year with no alcohol at all (made it thru Xmas and New Year’s with no booze and no sugar) so I’m well on my way to a healthier me. I’ve also committee to no beef or pork anymore because raising those animals for food is bad for the environment and I love animals too much to eat them any longer. Sorry fish, I still eat you and I know you have feelings but I need something ‘meaty’ No, I’m not trying to be a goody two shoes or anything like that I am doing this for my mental and physical well-being. The big test is whether I can go a whole year without buying a bottle of perfume. It will be an interesting ride! I’m slowly ridding myself of excess belongings, it’s a long journey! Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year’s however you celebrate!

    • Ann says:

Wow, those are some inspiring goals — my hat is off to you, dear! I can’t quite follow you on the beef-less journey though (love a burger, a hot dog and meatballs once in a while), but I’m seconding you on the other steps, especially the move toward minimalism. I need a whopping big dose of that, too! šŸ™‚

  • HeidiC says:

Glad you’re feeling and looking and smelling good! I’d love your eggnog recipe — I’m a sucker for eggnog, but know it’s awful for you — but so hard to resist! I wore Diorling and my NARS red lip in Jeanne last night. And my sweet little boy who was the New Year’s Baby for North Dakota in 2012 turned FIVE today — how did that happen? Waaaaaahhh! But we had a fun low-key party with friends and family — a macaroni & cheese bar and chocolate cupcakes, and kids running around the house. Now, it’s just the 3 of us crashed on the couch. ZZZzzzzzzz…..

    • Ann says:

Yay, Heidi! I know you were rockin’ the red lips and the Diorling (and Jeanne is a great color!)! That is too, too cool about your baby! And crashing together on the couch sounds very warm and cozy. P.S. I will post the link to the eggnog recipe here in a bit, up in my post.

  • I’m starting off day one, “Ground Zero” of 2017 with Nicolai’s Incense Oud. Yesterday was HG’s Arbole. N incense oud: Brisk, green, uplifting, weird, but also serious. May 2017 be a year of truth to power. And to beauty.
Beauty is so underated, but here’s my quick list: vintage perfumes, my new found orphaned kitten, my handsome fiance, a former male student of mine I encountered at the mall during the holidays looking for….his signature scent!, the lovely lights, my friends, the smell of hot buttered rum and chocolate martinis (last night), of the ballet we attended on the 23rd, the play we went to on the 24th, public radio, and the amazing cup of espresso my fiance made me this New Year’s morning with a froth of eggnog on top –all beauty. Well the list continues of beauty in this world, and we need it to not “merely endure…. but to prevail.”

    • Ann says:

Pamela, I am smiling broadly as I read your list of lovely things, and I agree! There is so much beauty in the world, if we just stop to notice it and appreciate it..
