Our Moment by One Direction

Hi there Perfume Posse. Today I’d like it if we could chat about Our Moment by One Direction from 2013. Yep, I know. It’s hardly highbrow fragrance, in fact it’s a decidedly low brow section of the perfume market; Celebuscents. That oft sniggered at, drawled and sneered at billion dollar bastard child of the perfume community. I get it, a lot of them are pretty terrible. The celebrity will have little, or zero, input into the creation and packaging. It’s a money spinner to sell to fans, who are often treated as the lowest common denominator. Some of the better ones include Madonna Truth or Dare, Tilda Swinton Like This and Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely.

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Currant, Pink grapefruit, Wild berries
Heart: Frangipani, Freesia, Jasmine
Base: Musk, Woods, White patchouli

A sizzling top of sweet fruits and it smells like pink pepper might be hiding among them to add some extra zing. I’m surprised that yang also doesn’t get a mention because it’s creamy banana seems to be in evidence too, cutting the sweetness with its smoothness. While One Moment is sweet, it’s not headache inducingly so. TBH it could easily slip into the current sweetened Guerlain AA range or Lolita Lempicka.

The heart is a floral bouquet with a berry compote drizzled mightily over a whisper of blueberry cheesecake.

Is white patchouli a thing? Did they mean to write white chocolate? That is far closer the mark. Dry down remains lightly fizzy. Is it ethyl maltol that has buoyed Our Moment? It could very well be. So, what I end up smelling after a couple of hours is this fizzy fruit, white chocolate, ice cream and cheesecake.

Sounds disgusting, right? NOPE! Our Moment is wonderful. Smells so fun and always brings a smile to my face.

So come on, time to fess up. What is your celebrity guilty pleasure?

Oh I love a guilty pleasure. After all, many celebuscents are composed by the same perfumers who also make higher end perfumes.

Kim Kardashian: The original in the dark bottle. Tuberose/sandalwood/musk. It is very well balanced and I think this would get more love from the fragrance community if it was not a celebrity scent.

Madonna Truth or Dare: Elegant tuberose, slightly powdered impression, one spray as it is potent.

Jennifer Aniston Jennifer Aniston: Gentle soft ambrette seed/laundry musk with beachy florals and sunscreen. The sunwarmed skin impression is sensual without bring overtly sexy.

OOOH! Farawayspices, you’re singing my song.
Yep, plenty of the celebs are good. Maybe the ingredients or the bottles cost a little less but some of the juices are well worth seeking out. Did you ever try Rihanna Reb’l Fleur or Kim Kardashian Honey? Another good one.

That scent doesn’t sound much like me, but can I say how much I like that hilarious bottle?!  No, seriously.

  • Maggiecat says:

I wore SJP Lovely for years and still touch base with it every now and then. Other people loved it on me, and I loved it too.

  • rosarita says:

Great review, I love a fun cheap scent, there’s no guilt in my pleasures 🙂 Our Moment is so far out of my perfume tastes, which could be described as “brooding,” but it definitely sounds cheering. Fancy Nights is my favorite winter bedtime scent and I really like SJP Stash, plus I’ve earmarked a bottle of Adam Levine for a potential February purchase – February is such a terrible month of winter here that I pre plan a couple cheap and easy purchases to arrive in the mail, through the snow, to cheer me up.

    • rosarita says:

PS – Portia, have you tried and of Rihanna’s perfumes? I think I’ve seen positive reviews but I don’t recall which ones.

      • Portia says:

        Hey there Rosarita,

Of Rihana’s the only one I really love is Reb’l Fleur but I think she had one called Nude that was also nice. I have a couple of mates who wear Reb’l Fleur and they smell amazing in it.

      Hi Rosarita,
I love that you get a couple of new cheapies in the cold to help give you a lift. Such a good idea.
Fancy Nights is one of my faves too. Another really good cheapy is Guess Marciano, if you like thick crunchy ambers.

I don’t know if this counts, but I was madly in love with Isabella Rossellini’s My Manifesto.

  • Kathleen says:

I haven’t come across any celebrity scents that I love. I’m not opposed but haven’t really had the opportunity to sniff any. i have Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights but don’t ever reach for it. the One Moment bottle is pretty!

    • Portia says:

      Hiya Kathleen,

Isn’t right now in the cool of winter the perfect time for Fancy nights? Go get it and wqear it to bed. MMMMMM So cozy.

This is not one I had even heard of, but of course I’m not even close to the demographic ?.  Sounds quite nice, actually!  I am quite a fan of SJP Covet – have a BUB – and this week I wore Adam Levine for Her which is a nice sandalwood, purchased for less than $10!  I don’t have any Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson fragrances, though, which for me would be true guilty pleasures.

  • Shiva-woman says:

I had no idea Tilda Swinton was actually “in” the celebrity frag category. Oopsie. Guilty.  I love the smell of immortelle; we have a plant called California Everlasting flower, probably in the same family, that grows wild and has that coffee/syrup herbal quality. I love the delicacy and light deft touch in Tilda Swinton’s prayerful recall of “Like This.”

    • Portia says:

      Hey there Shiva-woman,

Yeah, she’s a celeb so the shoe fits.
YES! the same flower. It’s smell is unmistakeable. So many facets within the one flower.
