SOTD 20.3.2020

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else SOTD choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and Perfume Posse people love to chat. We like to keep it fragrant but there’s always room for life events and adventures too. This is our place to share how we smell, live, love, eat, work, raise kids and pets and get on with the business of living.

Perfume Posse SOTD

SOTD 20.3.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz. Whenever you feel the mood take you, share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at Perfume Posse, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your SOTD comment. Then you can reply to them, and so on.

Go To It Crew.

First day of many working from home for me. Will share with colleague doing 2.5 in the office and 2.5 home. It’s lonely for sure! Sneaked in a load of washing and sampling some ELDO scents – I am Trash is super lovely especially the fruity opening but then it goes super quiet. Got Jasmin et Cigarette right arm – pretty Jasmine right now. Might be perfect way to trial all these little samples that are hanging around. Keep well everyone xx

    • Portia says:

Sorry to read you’re feeling lonely Melanie.
      Hugs from here.
Did I Am Trash come back? I find it floats in and out through the day.
Great way to use your home time. Waft away all day.
      Portia xx

      • Melanie says:

        Thanks Portia, hugging you back.
I am Trash too quiet for me. But the opening so awesome. I needed bigger wafts so went mad with Rien!

  • Portia says:

    House arrest here in Sydney.
I had a Bucket Bath today, it feels good to get clean and use less of the water resources.
Jin has made a huge load of dumplings and we are eating them fried, steamed and in soup. I made a large batch of rissoles and potato salad so we have variety.

SOTDay: Oriental lounge by The Different Company. A softly sweet amber.

As we are all now under house arrest in the Uk I’ve been looking through a box of perfumes. Wearing Irissime.I like it. Not w orn it for ages.

  • cassieflower says:

Miss Dior. Can’t be letting standards slip. ?

  • Melanie says:

Wearing my sample of Memory Motel from Une Nuit Nomade today. Reminds me a bit of Radio Bombay from DS Durga. Subtle, mostly getting vanilla, patchouli and some woody pencil shaving notes. Glad i tried it.

  • Portia says:

Cartier l’Heure Convoitée in response to Cassieflower’s post. Its cool,, sweet, powdery, fluffiness is exactly the aloof kind of comfort I adore in times of stress.

Today all Australian non essentials close. This is the first time since 1985 I’ve been out of a job. It’s an interesting feeling, still processing.
Jin is working on the trains so he is considered an essential and will still be working at this point.
Fortunately Jin is well ahead on his mortgage and we have some rainy day savings. We should be good, if we live frugally, for around 6 months.

I’m 52 years old and think we have lived through an incredible golden age. Sure there have been ups & downs and a lot has gone poorly but most of us have generally been very lucky to live in this era.
It feels like it’s time to pay the piper.

So I’m tightening my belt, helping friends where I can, going to start a veggie garden with my BFF Kath’s Dad in his backyard and hopefully in the near future we’ll get him some chooks and a beehive.

Hopefully you guys are all doing OK?

My darling, the Universe has spoken. With free time and nowhere to go it is time to resurrect APJ . And this time I will write for you.

      • Portia says:

        Brigitte,
I’m sorry. Even thinking of it is giving me anxiety. We may need to chat about it again in three months time.
I haven’t bought a bottle of perfume this year. Been sent some samples/decants but haven’t actively sought them.
Writing here at Perfume Posse, over at A Bottled Rose and maybe a couple of guest spots on Undina’s Looking Glass will do me fine.
Your offer is noted with great appreciation though. Should APJ rise again you are on record. It would certainly make the place extra heavenly.
        Love you.

        • Brigitte says:

Portia, I totally get it!! But that doesn’t mean I will stop hounding you LOL
          Love you right back

          Stay safe
          Stay healthy
          Stay sane

          XOXO

        • cassieflower says:

Extra extra heavenly if Brigitte wore some of her extra extra special Heaven. Yes, then all the stars would be in alignment.

        Smalltiny Armtwister Extraordinaire.

    • Brigitte says:

And, Cassie, you need to back me up on this , LOL.

    • Musette says:

Portia – we are all going to be fine! Breathe, do your gardening – definitely some chooks, too – and … just breathe. This is an excellent time for all of us to take stock of who we are and see what we’re made of. I think you’re made of pretty stern stuff, honeydoll! We are going to be okay. xoxoxo and, btw, you know Mme Laurent is mah JAM, right? When I grow up, I wanna be her! And Convoitee is one of my favorites!

  • Melanie says:

Roberto Cavalli Just Cavalli for Her (in the gold bottle)

  • Cassieflower says:

    Cartier l’Heure Convoitée and thunk!

    • Portia says:

OOOOH! One of my all time faves. You’ve picked my SOTD Cassieflower.
Did you like it? I’m tough, you can say you hated it if that’s your experience.

Muscs Koublai Khan for the evening, social distancing with the boyfriend on the sofa….

  • springpansy says:

Mediterraneo for International Fragrance Day (3/21/20)! Yay, a day for us. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

  • Portia says:

THUNKED a 10ml decant of Molyneux Fete. Woo Hoo! It is a sunlit, joyous aldehydic floral. Much less thick and rich than cHANEL No 5. Glorious for a sunny autumn day in Sydney.

  • Patty says:

I am wearing Glossier You. This thing sells like crazy, and I HAD to know what the deal was with it. I kinda get it, it is really addictive and comforting, like a perfume you love but hate on yourself, but you love when someone else wears it.

    • Portia says:

HA! Patty, that is an excellent description. Often when I’m out I smell Black Opium on others. It smells wonderful. On me it smells like a chemical plant meltdown.

  • Gina T. says:

I am in scent of unemployed. In so much shock that I can’t even think straight. Was working from home and they called me. The pathetic tiny amount of unemployment won’t even cover half my bills. I have a cat in surgery as we speak and $68 in my savings account. Joy to the fucking world.

  • Eldarwen22 says:

Wearing LADDM while I head out to work. Expecting some thunderstorms today and being in the 60’s. Tomorrow it will be in the 30’s and not looking forward to that.

  • Portia says:

Through the day I had onTerracotta Voile d’Été Guerlain. It’s a minty carnation with vanilla++ dry down.
The weather in Sydney is spectacular currently. Jin and I went to the park with the dogs. He jogged 3 rounds and I walked the dogs once around the 1km pathway. We arrived in the pale light of dusk and left under stars. It was lovely.
Tonight I’ve been watching The Vampire Diaries on Netflix and wearing CHANEL No 18 EdT. Smells like a peppery floral on me.

I’ve recently discovered the indie Nui Cobalt Designs and I’ve been trying out a bunch of samples. Today is Dendrophilia, the love of trees. Initial snoot of pine was a bit rough, but it smooths out pretty quickly. Description from website: The love of Trees.
Moss-covered deadfall, birchwood and pine, lingering resins and sunlight through the leaves, a trace of woodsmoke, the memory of vetiver and cedar. Wear this evocative blend to commune with the spirits of nature and reconnect with your primal wisdom.

  • Dina C. says:

Today I’m wearing Mademoiselle Guerlain which is one of my top favorites in recent years. Has iris, galbanum and marshmallow notes. Today is my daughter’s 20th birthday, as well as my brother’s birthday, and the 30th anniversary of my husband’s proposal of marriage, and the first day of Spring. We’re stuck inside social distancing, but we’re gonna try to buy some nice carry out food for lunch. HAGD everyone!

  • Musette says:

so. I was thinking about SOTD Day last night, as I was showering – I foamed up with some Rituals Rice Milk and Cherry Blossom body wash….. and suddenly I. Just. KNEW! what my SOTD was going to be – but it needed to start last night. Mohur, by the lovely Neela Vermiere!!! My skittery mind is always drawn more towards the Holi smell/colors of Trayee and Bombay Bling….but! Mohur was my first love and that quietly compelling steamed-rice accord is lovely – and even lovelier (and even more compelling) after a good 8hr drydown!

    xoxoxo

    • rosarita says:

Ooh I think I’ll join you in Mohur today, I’m craving rose after Portia’s post on Tauer rose oil yesterday. I was going to wear DSH American Beauty but Mohur sounds better.

      • Musette says:

A, how did it work for you, with the rose craving? I confess I rarely think of Mohur as rose (which is insane, as it’s HEAVILY rose!) but more…… congee with rose petals? xoxo

    • Portia says:

WOW! I was wearing Mohur yesterday Musette. SNAP!
Isn’t it the loveliest rose-centric fragrance? Like a tapestry.
      Portia xx

      • Musette says:

Portia – it is, though it’s muted by the steamed-rice accord (imo). Which I kinda like – there are plenty of ROSE perfumes out there – but nothing quite like Mohur.

  • Queen-Cupcake says:

Hi ‘Fumies! Happy first day of Spring. My SOTD is Winter Kitty from For Strange Women on Etsy. Starts off kind of medicinal but very soon warms up to the loveliest comfort scent. I’ll wear this as long as our weather is cool, which should be for a few more weeks. Here is a quote from the listing: “Winter Kitty begins with a blanket of snow and evolves to a comforting base of vetiver, woods, and frankincense. A sweet musk of amber, rose and vanilla complete the scent of a house cat as he returns from a winter walk, with chimney smoke and brisk air lingering in his fur.”

    • March says:

It’s supposed to be almost 80 today which is bizarre. Winter Kitty sounds delicious! I’m wearing accidental Mitsouko right now, I must have been wearing this sweater when I applied it months ago, hehe.

      • Musette says:

OMG! Accidental Mitsouko is SO marvelous! I have a handbag scarf sprayed with a Mitsouko ‘Eau’ (someone fabulous sent it to me 😉 and … the Very Strange Looks I get at the Kroger, when that scent wafts up and suddenly I bend over into the cart to inhale…..

    • rosarita says:

      That sounds marvelous!
