Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir

guerlain neroli outrenoir review

Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir from the Matiere series somehow fell off of my radar about as soon as it hit it. I remember hearing it was released, and then like all things with neroli in the title, I though, eh, later.

Then someone commented here in the tea post that the notes included tea.  Wha?!

Created by Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk, Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir has notes of bergamot, petitgrain, grapefruit, lemon, tangerine, orange blossom, tea, smoke, earthy notes, neroli, ambrette (musk mallow), oakmoss, myrrh, benzoin and vanilla.

Dang, I should have looked at those notes!  Then cursed them for the dumb name.  Please don’t name a perfume neroli. I love neroli, but it’s in everything, and I just ignore perfumes that have that in the name.

Anyway, it does not fit the name, the neroli isn’t dark or uncountable or more than film noir (Google-French>English isn’t always my friend, so if the French translation I’ve run into is wrong, feel free to correct it!)

Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir isn’t dark at all! it is joyous lightly smoked neroli tea. It’s one of those that I spray on with abandon.  A lot of the Matieres are too vanilla, so you have to have a little bit of a light hand. Not so here!  Spray and then spray some more.   So yeah, plenty of neroli, but  that lightly smoked tea underpinned with a bit of incense and vanilla is so charming. It makes it happier and  bubbly.

Sometimes when I write a review, I look through other reviews first – if there are any – to make sure that I’m not missing something and should re-sniff. I hate blowing something off or getting it wrong because my nose isn’t picking up something.  This time, I just wrote this without checking because I know I’m completely right.  Then I checked other reviews.  Well, yeah!  I’m assuming some people don’t like this — somewhere, someone hates the sun and joy and happiness and cute bunnies with pink noses – but I kept scrolling and could not find that person in the Fragrantica reviews.  Basenotes doesn’t hate it, but more people were on the fence or said yeah, nice, but not for that price.  But how can you price joy and sunshine served with your lemon-vanilla tea?

In the middle of summer, with a pandemic and the mask wars raging, it was so unexpected to trip over this shining happy, beautiful Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir.  Highly recommend if you need some happy/joy/sunshine/beauty/bunnieswithpinknoses.

Couple of updates on other things.  One, next week I am moving the perfume business from my partner’s house to mine.  Can I tell you how stupid happy I am to be able to smell all my beautiful perfumes again whenever I want?  I’ve missed them, and I feel like my perfume muse has left me abandoned the last two years.  It was so nice to go in and grab anything and resmell it for reference. There were some days I decanted, and kept running into things I missed and would spritz myself, then forget and run to the store. I must have smelled like a fright. I’ll also start doing some giveaways with my posts again. It’s been terrible logistics to do it without having them here.  So yeah!

Second – Anya.  We are about 1.5 weeks post-injury. I assumed she would be paralyzed, but the little stinker is back to standing up on her own.  She’s not taking steps yet, but she’s got some feeling in her feet again. It’s not super strong, but she reacts to  pressure.  She is such a pip.  She’s still got 5 more weeks of restraint and crate rest and then maybe more rehab, if needed, but she’s happy.  We are dosing down on the steroids to every other day a small amount once a day instead of full dose 2x a day. She hasn’t had a pain med in two days.  I don’t think she needed them the two days before that, but the prednisone makes her pant and thirsty, so I wasn’t really sure if she was panting for that or had a little pain.

So happy for Anya 🙂 She’s great!

I do love NO. Such a lovely scent!

  • Cinnamon says:

I always want to love things with neroli or orange blossom. Alas, doesn’t happen often. Hurrah for Anya, who clearly has her own mind about what’s up with her body. Hope she continues to improve.

  • Portia says:

    YAY Patty!
Getting the frags back at yours will be heaps of fun. Does that mean you’ll be doing ALL the decanting? That’s a BIG ask.
Also hooray for Anya. Fingers crossed the good outcomes continue.
Neroli Entrenoir and I have only met in the Champs Elysees store after I’d already blown my nose completely doing the Historical Remakes Session. So I have no memory of it at all. Thanks for the reminder.
    Portia xx

My sister, niece and I will be doing it, at least for now. It will be okay! I know, I am always amazing by my little Anya. She is so good when this happens. I had left her in her pen at night the first week, I didn’t want to move her more than I absolutely had to, and she was totally fine. Then I started thinking it was time to bring her back into the bedroom with me at night, but I hadn’t made the decision, thinking we would wait until done with the steroids. I went to bed one night trying to decide, and as soon as I got back into the bedroom, she barked at me. It was time. So she’s been back in her little playpen by my bed since then. She’s very communicative.

Try the Neroli, I think you’ll like it at a minimum. It really is beautiful. My only complaint is I wish it projected more, but it could be the notes are either not made for that, or you get nose fatigue with them easily? Not sure.

  • Dina C. says:

Patty, glad to hear that your Anya is still hanging in there and getting better. Yay! I’ve been on an orange blossom and neroli kick this summer. I hadn’t heard of this Guerlain release, so I need to sniff this. Especially since I love tea scents, too.

    • Patty says:

OMG, you do need this. You love tea too, don’t you? It’s just super charming and lovely, and it makes my heart happy. I thnk it came out in 2018 maybe? I should have looked.

  • Tara C says:

Like you, I pretty much ignored this one, finally bought a bottle in April. So glad to hear Anya is better and your perfumes are coming home!

    • Patty says:

Were you the one that mentioned it in the tea post? If so, thank you! I have no idea why I didn’t at least try it, but those darn things are so expensive, it hurts to get one if you don’t love it. The perfumes coming home make me so happy. I’ve missed them!

  • matty1649 says:

I’m so glad Anya is recovering well.

  • Maggiecat says:

Neroli? Tea? Two of my favorite notes in one scent? Must. Try.
And I’m happy Anya is doing well.

  • Musette says:

oooh, Anya! The Girl is sending ALLADEHEALINGVIBES, babygirl!
That is SO fab for you, Patty, having the perfumes back at Camp. Yay!

    xoxoxo

    • Patty says:

I know. I mean, it’s not like I don’t have perfume, but it’s not the entire library that I was used to using as a reference!

  • Sarah says:

Hmmm. “Joy and sunshine served with your lemon vanilla tea”. Seems a comforting tonic for living in “interesting” times.
ANYA! Go get’em baby. 100% healing ordered for you.

  • March says:

YAY ANYA that is fantastic!!! Also YAY your perfume coming back to your house! Where are you going to set it up? How the heck are you even moving it?!

    • Patty says:

I know! on both! It’s going to be in the walkout basement. so decant a while, then go swim and relax in the sun. We are moving it with a Penske truck. 🙂 LOL, sorry, shirl, Harry and I are going up to get it and bringing it back, using movers to get it all on the truck. We are going to pack it, though. don’t trust movers for that!

  • Janet in California says:

That sounds lovely. I seem to have completely missed this release!
