Pimiento+++ by Miller et Bertaux

Hello Posse, Miller et Bertaux are one of my favourite perfume houses. Here on Perfume posse I’ve written about Santal+++, Spiritus/Land and A Quiet Morning. Two lovers who opened a shop together in 1980s France to sell the wares they discovered and brought back from their many journeys. The obvious extension then is to make perfumes that also reflect their adventuring. A globally inspired brand that speaks to me on so many levels. Pimiento is their latest offering and I fell madly for it at the 2020 Spring Summer launch at Libertine Perfumerie, where I subsequently returned to grab a bottle. I know! So exciting.

Pimiento+++ by Miller et Bertaux 2020

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Clary sage, Saffron, Chili
Heart: Ginger, Geranium, Blackberry
Base: Woods

The cool blast of freshly cut bell peppers is offset by the more herbal sage. Already at open the zing of ginger and crackle of saffron give us depth and lustre. Sadly the cut pepper only lasts for a minute or two, i really want it to stay at least into the heart.

What we do get in the heart is a complete fragrant turnaround. Berry sweetness changes the whole complexion of Pimiento. We are now in a much more modern drug store perfume territory. No judgement. I really like how it has taken this turn. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still quite happily weird but now it has something non perfumistas will be able to recognise as perfume.

By dry down Pimiento is spicy, slightly sweet and all drizzled over a smoky woods. The fragrance hasn’t collapsed but it does become quite soft and comfortable. I even get whiffs of salt and cold ocean water lapping around the edges.

Skewing late 20th century masculine yet fully unisex. Good projection for the first hour, more on a good day. Longevity is fairly standard and I find myself nearly scentless at around 5 hours, ready for a respritz or change.

Can you see yourself liking Pimiento +++?

Sounds interesting but not my style. I remember Trouve and Green Green Green very well. This was one of my gateway Houses to this fragrant world. May need to revisit those!

    • Portia says:

OOOOH! I love that M<iller et Bertaux was one of your gateway houses. SO COOL! These guys are pretty out there for a novice, I bet some of them spun your head a bit?

y’know… this is one of those Houses where I think “hmmm… I know their work”… only to find I really don’t. For no reason other than I haven’t been paying attention. This one.. hmm… I loveLOVELOVE clary sage – but carefully interwoven into other things because as an essential oil it can be a bit narcotic (ask me how I know ;-). That and the bell pepper sound intriguing but the rest of the journey is a bit unexciting-sounding. xoxoxo

      Hey Musette,
I think there might be a few in the oeuvre that might tickle your fancy. They are well worth a sniff next time you do a Surrender To Chance order.

Miller et Bertaux do the most INTERESTING scents! I’m not sure this is something I’d need to own, but it’d still be lovely to smell, thanks!

    • Portia says:

      Heya March,
Yes. they are so creative and unfettered in their choices. HA! Maybe you would like it but probably a decant would do you, just for those times.

I just realized that the only M&B I’ve tried was Spiritus – and that explains why I didn’t explore the brand further, with me not being all Incense Ho (like SOME people 😉 xoxoxo
