Reverse Squirrel

These are the first days of fall. The wind

at evening smells of roads still to be traveled

while the sound of leaves blowing across the lawns

is like an unsettled feeling in the blood

from ‘How to Like It’ by Stephen Dobyns

…thus begins Autumn for our part of the world – and the frantic Reverse Squirrelization of your pal Musette.  March and I both have that ‘unsettled feeling’ – and we both assuage it with really deep cleaning (I know I’ve written about that before but (insert shrug emoji)… but this year?  I took it to ELEVEN!

But I cannot write about it now because I just came from Physical Therapy and I. Am. BEAT!  The 14.6′ fence really did a number on my shoulder but I am resistant to surgery, so we’re doing some intense work to rebuild the muscles surrounding the tear (which we’re hoping will mend with scar tissue).   I’m wearing the latest in Kinesiology tape (it comes in PINK!, too!)  and I’m just whupped.  So I’ll tell you all about Reverse Squirrelization next post, okay?

In the meantime, tell me something – anything – I’ll have M. Jacques poke a paw for a couple of fall scent samples as a thank you for letting me be so damb lame this go-round.

    Hey Musette,
it seems we are all crumbling to dust nowadays. I hope the shoulder heals up quick.
    Portia xx

Oh Ms A, that shoulder sitch sounds so painful…I bet they are tearing it up with PT, but good for you to avoid surgery. I’ve got a bum knee and I don’t want surgery either. Hope you are getting some relief.
I love your cleaning posts! Looking forward to the Reverse Squirrelization.

Your poor shoulder! But at least you can make a design statement out of it. Really, they should come up with designer colors. Patterns too. Dorothy Draper Braziliance. Glen Plaid. Why not?

I’ve been getting the “must fly South” thing with the shorter days. Of course I can’t fly south to much warmer than what we get here- I just hate it getting dark at 4:30. So I guess I will just sublimate by reorganizing and FINALLY dusting the books..

I didn’t realize it had a name but this is exactly what I’ve been doing lately. We have a bulky waste pickup once a year where you can toss all manner of things to the curb to be picked up and it’s now! So driving around you see lots of couches, stuffed chairs, mattresses, dressers etc….all the bigger stuff you’ve just been waiting to get rid of. My contribution felt really good lol.

Your poor gimpy shoulder! I hope it does heal up well. Both of my kids had shoulder surgery within a year of each other. My son had a slap tear from weight lifting, thus repair was needed. My daughter’s was a labrum tear that she got in a funnier way: she was at her all-nite HS grad party, had a neck and shoulder massage, and then crawled through an inflatable maze. While crawling thru, she dislocated her shoulder and tore up her labrum! So her friends tease her that she got beat up by a balloon. 🙂

I met a friend this weekend and she ended up selecting three nice bottles of perfume. She’s happy with them and I no longer feel guilty that I never reach for them.

  • Kathleen says:

I also do more cleaning and decluttering in the fall. The weather is more refreshing and I feel more energetic. I’m loving the cooler temps! Best wishes for successful rehab of your shoulder.

  • alityke says:

Autumn, the time of year idle dog owners stop picking up after their pooches. They can’t find it under the leaves apparently & it’s never them who stand in it is it? Lazy barstewards. Rant over for now

    • Tom says:

oooh, I HATE people who do that. I hope their dogs get diarrhea all over thier expensive sofas.

  • cinnamon says:

Ah, best wishes with shoulder and PT. I have another three months of ‘in front of laptop’ situation. I think I need another visit to osteo soon and to be doing a lot more regular stretching during the day. Autumn is definitely twitchy time. Deep breaths? And lots of tea.

Good luck with the fence @ PT and avoiding surgery! Kinesiology tape looks so cool – reminds me of Kerri Walsh @ Rio olympics.
I’m doing lots of stair climbing @ PT now after a total knee replacement 6 weeks ago. It’s harder now than it was when I rehabbed the other knee as I was 10 years younger then. Feeling a bit bionic.

  • March says:

Thanks for explaining the tape stuff to me — I see it on folks at the gym and I’ve been curious! I’ve been reverse squirreling all over the place today, got to get things OUT of here. Dusting and rearranging my tableaux … <3

  • Tara C says:

I’m guessing reverse squirrelization means decluttering and purging? I’m doing some of that myself. Cleaned out the pantry and fridge today. Next up is the floors and ironing. After that, weeding out unused and unneeded dishes, clothes and shoes. However no perfume is leaving the building. 🙂

    • March says:

Hahaha YEP!!! We do our “spring cleaning” in the fall. I won’t spoil Anita’s fun with her details but we’re both decluttering. I need an orderly house cuz Winter is Coming and I’ll be inside more.
