New Years 2024

Hey there Posse. What is everyone doing for New Years 2024? It will be my first NYE without work for years, maybe decades. Jin has a new-ish office work role and they have enforced shut down for 2 weeks over the holiday period. So it will be his first NYE off in years also. We are in a quandary.

New Years 2024

New Years 2024

As always there is plenty of choice nearby and in the city. Sydney is famous for its fireworks display along the harbour and rivers. They go all the way up to the end of our street, which is 20km away as the crow flies from Sydney City. As a dog owner I find them execrable but as a person they are so alluring.

We also have a few invitations from friends homes, have turned down all paid for events, don’t want to brave the heaving city madness or the inevitable children at our nearby riverfront.

Jin is a little bit under the weather. It’s just a cold but if he’s not showing marked signs of improvement he will be better off on the couch at home in front of the TV with whatever hot cold concoction I’ve brewed him.

My secret wish is that we stay home, have some Korean BarBQ on the patio and a few quiet drinks.

Perfume wise I’ve been enjoying my Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Vetiver a lot in the muggy Sydney heat this summer. Maybe it will get the gong. I love its sweet juicy opening and smooth white floral heart made extra fresh and green by a dry vetiver, all over a lovely laundry musk base.

Whatever you all end up doing please stay safe and have a lovely time.

Let us all know what you hope to be doing, with whom and how you think you’ll smell for New Years 2024, the last year of a quarter century!

All my love to you, Jin & Kath!!!
I’m staying home ( as always) with Monsieur – this is one of my least favorite holidays, with the enforced jollity, etc. But! I do have fun planned for NYE Day (today) – the annual Run Your Ice Off 5K, then a fun lunch ,post-race
And no. I don’t actually run the race. That’s for savages and fiends!!! 😉
(aka people way fitter than me!)

  • Dina C. says:

Nerolia Vetiver sounds beautiful! A dear bestie gave me a large pump bottle of Beautyencounter Neroli hand lotion for Xmas, and I love it. Your NYE plans sound good to me. My hubby and I are both sick with colds, so staying in and watching movies sounds great. Have a great celebration everyone!

    • Portia says:

      Get Well Soon DinaC,
Neroli is a perfect mood changer, eh? It lifts out of the deepest doldrums. Glad you’ve got something gorgeous to sniff while you’re ill.

Been very ill with a horrid case of shingles as well as the flu so I’ll be home in bed for NYE-and I am quite fine with that, as I have my 3 feline bed warmers to attend me.

Much love, travel, happiness, good health, windfalls and daily joy to you and Jin. Thank you eternally for being YOU.

    • Portia says:

OH NO! I’ve nursed shingles in a couple of BFs over the years. It’s utterly debilitating. Fingers crossed for fastest recovery MzChrz.
Thank you! All good wishes returned with love.

We will be staying home with the dogs. People here go all out with fireworks, even on cold years, but the forecast for this year is extraordinarily warm, so best to keep them in, safe, and comforted. Plus I do not care to be out and about anyway with so many drinking and driving, so we will just pop corn and watch movies. Wishing you all peace, joy, and good health in 2024!

  • MMKinPA says:

We will be getting together with friends on the 30th which surely means the couch on the 31st. Our son usually ends up staying the night with a group of friends. Hopefully we’ll make it to midnight! I’m still pondering but thinking of some different perfume project ideas for 2024. I didn’t “work” my collection well enough in 2023 so I want to come up with something that will get me re-motivated to really use everything. Happy New Year to all!

    • Portia says:

      Hey MMKinPA,
After doing the New Year 2023 sample/decant purge I’m hoping to get back to my full bottles for a year. LOVED your 365 on Insta a few years ago.
HA! Good luck on the 31st and I hope your kid brings the crew, that will make it extra special.

@ MMKinPA, I’m a big fan of the little-tray technique someone in perfume land came up with, namely selecting a couple of features perfumes for a week or month

  • Maya says:

I don’t go out New Year’s eve. It always felt like you were almost obligated to go out and party and I don’t like that. So I have snacks and a drink or two by myself or with a few friends.
Wishing everyone a great New Year!

  • Tara C says:

I will do the usual, a glass of champagne with my husband at home with the dog, just the way I like it. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy & prosperous 2024!

  • Kathleen says:

Wishing all of the Posse the best of everything in 2024! I hope Jin is on the mend soon. The transition into the new year for me is preferred quiet as well and at home. I prefer New Year’s Day rather than the eve to celebrate in my own mind a new beginning and to set my mind right to welcome intentions. I plan to go on a long hike on New Year’s Day with my dog. xoxo

    • Portia says:

KATHLEEN! I got your postcard! LOVE it, and love receiving international post. Thank you.
All your good wishes returned in full with love.
Enjoy your NYD hike with pooch, it sounds like a very nice thing to do to welcome the new year.

We’ll be staying home with a tot of whisky. The fireworks terrify Mr Jarvis Cockapoo. If we weren’t home I suspect something tragic might happen. As it is we wrap him tightly in a scarf, block his ears with cotton wool, have an Adaptil plug in & have the tv on loudish. He still trembles & his heart races.
We both have this evil virus that isn’t Covid & it’s hanging round like a bad smell.
A peaceful 2024 to all the Posse ??

    • Portia says:

Hope you both get well ASAP. jin is also suffering the ghastly non C19 cold, grrr, poor thing.
Good luck with your fur baby.

Hot ginger water for Jin? I hope he is much better soon. It will be a quiet new year’s here. I was recalling one year in NYC when we went out to dinner, went to a party, stopped for chicken wings and White Russians at a diner at 3 AM. I came home, puked, went to sleep and felt fine the next day. What a strange memory. Will definitely be a quiet evening in this year as in theory I’m available for work all of that day. I’m with you on fireworks: beautiful for people, horror show for dogs.

    • Portia says:

Yeah Cinnamon, we are cooking up various traditional anti cold recipes and going the modern medicine drug bust too.

HA HA HA HA HA!! That sounds like the PERFECT NYE.

  • Tom says:

I’m sorry about the fireworks making the dog nervous. I wish people here wouldn’t randomly set them off. Personally I don’t do New Years: too many people out desperate to have a good time. I’ll pass.

    • Portia says:

Yeah Tom, it is often a desperate search for the BEST TIME EVER!
Jin has come down ill with a cold so we are definitely staying in.
