What to Wear… when you can wear anything

Posse, my darlings!  Time flies!   This Halloween, it’ll be 4 years since I got bounced from my horrible situation with El O.  FOUR YEARS!  And while there are a few things I miss (all related to business and/or handyman stuff around the house) one of the things I don’t miss?  Having to police my bedtime fragrance.  Now… I’mo be fair about this:  it’s not really his fault, nor is it his problem – sleeping with a perfumista, especially one with a penchant for heavy (HEAVY) hitters, can be problematic.  And … okay…. maaayybe 42 sprays of Mitsouko was, perhaps, about 39 sprays too many.

It’s the bedtime version of Office Wear – when you’re sleeping with someone, what you wear (or how much) can require some consideration.  But now?  Now that I tend to sleep (actually SLEEP) alone?

Katy, bar the damb door!  Musette is going for it! As you know, I’m a huge fan of BWFs and attars and I also love the Total Experience.  Nothing I love more than a shower gel, body cream and a few spritzes of some glamorama perfume.  I have been known to bomb my entire house with Carnal Flower!  Fracas? Add the powder and stand back!  No5 which, normally, isn’t that overwhelming, becomes nuclear level, when you put on all the stuffs! (and I’ve got ALL THE STUFFS!)

And I do it on the regular.  Mostly.  There are a couple that do not play well with sleep.  Amouage Lyric?  Entirely too distracting – it’s actually given me nightmares, if you can believe it (believe it)!  No22, one of my Summertime favorites (the heat brings out the fattiness of that powderbomb, like when you taste a bit of cooled-down funnel cake.  Icky to taste but intriguing to smell)…. wearing it in cooler weather for bedtime slides allll the way into the powder and makes me cough.  A lot.

But the tropical glam of Alberto Morillas’s Ines de la Fressange?  I will spritz that on my pillows, my sheets, the fan blades…. and me… and happily go to the Land of Nod, dreaming of driving from Paris to Marseilles in July, in a vintage convertible.

So…. do you indulge at bedtime?  Which ones do you love most?   If you sleep with another, do you have to police your application?  Your actual perfume? Which ones?  (omg.  I remember riding with my sister – in her truck, in Summer, with all the windows down… and she was yelling at me because she hated April Aromatics so damb much!  With the windows down! (I may have already mentioned that – but…. really?  THE WINDOWS WERE DOWN!)

Spill the tea (but not the perfume, like when I spilled Aromatics Elixir on that leather chair and had to move out of the house for a few days) – I’m gone this week  (staying with family and friends so I will play Perfume Nice)   –  when I get back I’ll poke one of my newly manicured paws and send some fun to the winner!

And KATHLEEN!  I still need you to gmail me – I don’t have your deets.

I save all the body mists for night use so as not to offend my husband, who has very strong fragrance preferences and does often accuse me of marinating myself. In the current rotation are some from Vera Wang, Candie’s, B&BW, and Sol de Janeiro, mostly citrus, coconut, honey, and fig themes as I find those best put me to sleep with a smile on my face–and no negative opposition from the other pillow.

I wear most of my crazy stuff at night. Because I do not share my bed with man nor beast I don’t get any editorial comments. And as selfish as it is to state that, I’d have it no other way.

My favorite bedtime fragrance is Ilang Ivohibé, sadly discontinued. I find the combo of jamine and vanilla very comforting.

I’ve found any heavy hitters keep me awake. Though to be honest I don’t tend to plan to wear anything to bed. May be the dregs of the day.

I usually forget to wear a scent to bed. When I do, it has to be a light and easy one or I can’t sleep. Lightly spraying the bedding works well for me.

I usually wear what I want to bed. If it’s a work day, I just continue on with what I wore that day. The perfumes that I love wearing to bed are Infusion d’Iris, no 22 and no 5. No 22 and no 5 extraits seem to work the best for bed. But recently, I have just want a dab of perfume before bed. Lyric is too gorgeous to be wasted on sleep.

Hahaha this is making me think of Portia saying there are scents that give Jin nightmares… I spray my Tisserand Sleep Pillow Mist (lavender, jasmine, sandalwood) on my bed and that’s about … it. I do tend to try little spritzes of things in the evening so some nights I probably go to bed smelling like a posh perfume counter.

My hubby has a poor sense of smell which he inherited from his mom, so he couldn’t care less what I spritz day or night. He only wears after shave or cologne – when he remembers – for my sake. As for me, I’m super sensitive to scents so I have to be careful what I choose so it doesnt keep me awake. Lately it’s been Thymes Neroli Sol lotion. I also like Burberry Brit Rhythm for Femme, a lavender, iris, clean musk blend that is very soothing. I wish more fragrances came with auxiliary shower gel, scented lotion, and other products. I love those things!

I don’t generally do perfume at bedtime (I know, sad). I do use essential oils on the pillows and sheets (current one is mixture of lavender, jasmine and something I can’t recall but it’s lovely to fall asleep with). I’ve never been big on the layering. Generally, fragranced body cream makes me itch (need the simple hypoallergenic-ish stuff). I think the idea of wafting everything Carnal Flower is glorious.

Delightful read, Musette! I’ve started wearing Shalimar Millesime Iris to sleep, as well as Tiger by Her Side, Shaghaf Oud, and others that are less mainstream for Miami. One of my fave sleeping scents is Kilian’s Straight to Heaven and I think it’s gentle enough for most company.

    Musette,
Jin has started getting nose burn from the top notes of fragrance and it makes his eyes water and nose run. I have to put scent on at least 15 minutes before we leave the house, if we are driving. It’s only certain perfumes and weirdly he can wear screamingly obnoxious heavy hitters and no problem.
    Very bloody annoying,
Fortunately we sleep in different rooms so I can skunk the place up for sleep too.
