Well the heat has finally hit here as well. Not like Paris, not even like Peoria, but it hit 80 F at 10am and it isn’t looking like it will get much better. So I will skip the slightly musky musks I had sitting here as well as the celeb tie-in and talk about beating the heat.
I drink gallons of liquids- unsweetened iced tea and water mostly although lately perhaps because of diet I have been craving celery juice and beet juice. Whatever that means. I am down to just the other side of 200lbs. Still no GLP-1 but still not ruling it out. I am a bit Mary Baker Eddy about pills and drugs in general and while I know there are actual people with actual needs that GLP-1s fulfill for them I also know I would be in the group of “lazy-butts who want the easy way out” but then can’t get off the Merry-Go-Round lest they gain back their old waist.

The most famous dress from a movie nobody was allowed to see.
So I have been wearing those musks in the privacy of my home for the past few days, which I am still arranging around a new TV. A neighbor moved out of state and didn’t feel like taking it with them. I’ve had a 20″ for the past million years in the bedroom since that’s where I get reception and I don’t take cable. This one I am setting up with Roku and a Blu-Ray player and if I ever have some one over I can show them a movie like a normal person. I am still waiting for the copy of Letty Lynton and at this rate I will no doubt have the disc at the same time I have not only dieted enough to fit into but may have been able to sew myself a copy of the famous eponymous dress, which apparently sold thousands of copies at Macy’s and was apparently copied by the future Queen of England in one of her gowns.
So what have I been wearing? Agua de Colonia Concentrada by Alvarez Goméz (thanks alityke) I found in a corner and have been enjoying the heck out of. Lemony fresh with hints of lavender and petitgrain. I could keep a plant mister of this in the icebox and be set for summer.
How are you beating the heat (if you’re having it?) Let us know in the comments.

Agua de Colonia Concentrada is in the fridge along with the 4711 splash & stick.
Did I tell you I found the Alvarez Gomez Colonia the waitress was wearing? It’s the Orange Blossom one. Bought it immediately. Bleugh! Even the deodorant roll on is WAY too BWF on me! The biggest indolic OB I’ve ever come across. She’s the equivalent of Mae West in a corset & thong growling her immortal “come up & see me sometime”. Never tried it again. Maybe it’s a freezing cold weather cologne.
Glad you’re still loving the lemony OG.
Yep. That was you! Now I need to go look for the orange blossom one.
Good luck
ooops also CONGRATS on your weight loss! At your height I’m guessing/assuming you must be pretty near your target weight.
I still need to lose a few. You lose muscle as well as weight no matter what you do. So I am upping the protein. Cheese please!
We’ve missed the worst of the heat, thank goodness (it was 101F in D.C. yesterday!) but it has been drrryyyyyyyyy, alarmingly so. A bit of rain yesterday and today, apologies if you could hear me squealing in delight. TV “like normal people”? hehe we don’t own one, I dunno why. We go to movies and I watch stuff on my laptop. I forget this isn’t “normal” until it comes up somehow. It’s like I’m telling them we live without indoor plumbing.
I was raised that the TV gets sort of shoved off into a corner. Not owning one is the ultimate. I at least don’t have a 96” one.
I prefer the dry, but have found I need to marinate myself in good now. Age and weight loss.
March! 2 things. #1. Ages ago you wrote about the Leighton Denny nail file. Based on your words, I bought one. Money well spent. It’s a wonder! I am not a creeper/stalker but I do send good energy your way every time I use it. #2. I have not owned a t.v. for more than 2 decades. People find out, give me a side eye and ask, ‘So just what do you DO at night!?” I smile and change the subject.
I think it’s more “normal” than you think not to bother. I got rid of my TV years ago but thought I probably couldn’t do it. Wrong. I was shocked. Never missed it in the slightest….I do what you do. And there’s Prime. Have you seen Project Hail Mary (on Prime)? I haven’t loved a movie this much in a long time!!!
Bit cooler here Tom. 8-18°C (46-64f). I’m wearing original Boucheron Femme EdP. Audacious! Just had a glorious bubble bath, now off to bed.
Portia xx
That sounds like perfection. I used to have back in the day a bottle of Boucheron someone gave me for giving them directions and things to do in LA.
Actually.. Peoria ( IL – I suspect Peoria AZ is even hotter) is BAKING! And it’s a humid heat, which I and my skin adore . I’m wearing a lot of perfumed body creams – Amouage Dia, Lyric & Jub25 ( not together, obvs), the Lelong, the attars – since I on ON MY PORCH for the bulk of the day ( and go to the gym when nobody’s there) I can waft without choking everyone out ( which happened when I wore Dia cream AND perfume)
I have finally gotten the the CrepeErase portion of the program- I am not using that necessarily, but I am needing some serious gook de femme with retin-a.
Tom-check out The Ordinary website. Extremely inexpensive and very effective serums and potions. My daily ‘go to’ is the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Hydrating Serum. 30 ml. is $9.90 online-same product at Sephora is $17.50. It’s a game changer. I use it in the a.m. on damp skin and before bed, again after a face wash on damp skin. No scent, no color. A little goes a long way. I am much older than you and still get compliments on my skin.
Thanks! A friend turned me onto them and I love them.
I am in the fewer drugs the better camp. I resent the ones I have to take but appreciate that they keep me safer. As to GLP-1s, they seem to have their positives and negatives. For some people (I’m seeing you India Knight) things seem to go a bit overboard (she had a lovely full face — which is now gone).
We’re looking hot through the end of July. At this point I’m alternating between bigwhiteflorals (because my brain just really wants me to wear them) and the lighter things. Did Eshal yesterday and it was great. Probably be Ninfeo Meo today.
I think BWFs SING in the heat!!!
Sometimes, sometimes not, imho, in our heat. We swing between humid and still and windy and dryer. Right now though they def sing.
I moved away to get out of the humidity. I don’t need it to be bone dry like Phoenix and PS, but I had a “remember this” moment with humidity the last time I visited NYC and that was quite enough thanks.
I agree!
Ninfeo Mio! What a great idea!
The heat is winning even without the heat dome. The predicted weather for the next 8 days is in the 90’s (32’s) and continued humidity for at least 4 days.
I’ve already mentioned perfumes I am enjoying this summer. PG Bois Naufrage, a fig and Tom Buxton Sleeping with Ghosts, with quince and marigold are also getting love.
Yay! on the new TV!
It’s such a cliche that we say “It’s a dry heat” but it really helps. I’d rather be in ours. Heat + humidity makes me want to bit someone.
And dry heat makes the just want to cry and start chopping people up… until my cuticles fall off my fingers and render them a bloody mess.
Which is why I miss coastal CA – a perfect mix!!!
Yep. You’re a Santa Monica gal. Going east of Lincoln Blvd feels like cool moisturizer on days like today.
Yay on the new-to-you TV! Sorry about the heat. I can relate. We’re having another heat wave here this week. I’ve been wearing AG Chevrefeuille, Chanel Cristalle vintage edt and Cristalle eau Verte edt, Dior Escale a Portofino, and some other fresh citrus-y things. Maybe AG eau d’Hadrien tomorrow.
Yes, the TV is great. And a great excuse for a spring cleaning that I have been putting off. Net project: get rid of clothes that don’t fit.
