Hey there Posse Peeps! Next on our journey through my lovely husband Jin’s fragrant wardrobe we stumble across Une Folie de Rose by Les Parfums de Rosine. This brand comes from historic fashion designer Paul Poiret. In 1911 he was the first fashion designer to have a fragrance brand, Rosine was his daughter and it’s named for her. Last year when we were in Paris Anna Maria and her family came up to see us from their holiday house in Italy. We went to the store at the back of the Palais Royale and had a good old fashioned getting to know you sniff of most of the collection. Our SA could not have been more helpful. Anna Maria bought the oudh rose and Jin fell madly in love with Une Folie de Rose. Yes, they both left with purchases.
Une Folie de Rose by Les Parfums de Rosine 2004

Les Parfums de Rosine gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, Coriander
Heart: Ylang, Jasmine, Tea rose, Bulgarian and Turkish rose absolue, Iris
Base: Sandalwood, Oak moss, Patchouli, Vetyver, Benzoin
This was a total surprise buy from Jin. I’d never have picked this fragrance for him. It’s WAY more me leaning but who can ever tell with fragrance? Jin is now a chypre wearer! I suppose if he wears CHANEL Antaeus then he’s always been a chypre wearer but this is a horse of a different color.
The cool green rush of citrus and quite plainly, coriander opens. It’s not just the greenery of coriander though. I smell broken rose stems and leaves too. Fresh and invigorating.
The heart is a bouquet led by rose but with a tapestried approach. More like a florists front stoop than the chill moistness of their fridge. Floral and green, a little bit grassy too. I’m put in mind of Patou Joy and CHANEL No 19. Not the same as either but definite fragrant memories from facets of both.
Heading towards dry down a remarkable oakmoss or a recreation of it hums fuzzily underneath all. Everything else in the baseline is merely playing backup.

This is how it smells on me. On Jin there is a lovely spicy wash and warm manly skin scent added to the mix. He comes with his own beautiful smell that elevates Une Folie de Rose into something personal and unique.
Gosh! The last time we talked of Les Parfums de Rosine here on the Posse was 2014. There needs to be MUCH more chatter about this beautiful, historic brand.
Do you have a fave from them? Does Une Folie de Rose sound like it might suit you?

I love the sound of Une Folie de Rose. I went looking to check it out further. Seems it’s been discontinued fairly recently. It’s sold out everywhere. I’m going to hunt for a sample anyway.
