We’re now post the autumn equinox and we’ve decidedly tipped towards autumn here. The middle of the day can still get quite warm but that’s sandwiched between cool mornings, sometimes misty, and evenings that darken earlier, which means cooler too.
The painter finished the front of my house. Lots of washing down, repointing, patching, a couple of new airing bricks. The house was last painted around 10 years ago, I think, if not a few more. That go-round was lavender. This time I’ve gone for silver blue. I live on a busy road and houses that are white or beige look dirty very quickly after repainting, which you can see from the sliver of house on the right side of the pic. That’s my neighbour who isn’t terribly house proud.
Trip into town for haircut (and attempt at new coffee shop, which was totally meh). And, Saturday night was a harvest moon. Beautiful — and a bit spooky.
Un Coeur du Desert is the second to last of my recent round of sampling. I guess I felt like catching up with Tauer’s offer. In any case, however, I recently noticed a new Tauer juice has been released which is based around geranium.
Released in 2016, notes for Coeur include resins, coriander, cedar, ambergris, patchouli and cumin.
The opening of this is classic Tauer, as in classic L’Air du Desert Marocain – this is a sort of flanker to LDDM. But, it has an odd, sort of fascinating, barnyard note, which I wonder is an enhanced leather aspect or just the cumin. Per the notes list, no birch tar, etc, that you would expect to represent leather.
As it warms and opens up, I get L’Air but more intense and less sweet. Strong incense (those resins?), a very gentle whisper of vanilla (not in list).
Very good longevity, as is the case with many Tauers. In the drydown we’re in amber territory. Almost sweet but not tipping over into it. Plush, comforting.
The thing I liked most about this is the hay, barnyard thing. It’s pongy without being too much.
This is available here priced at £165 for 50ml of extrait, which makes it a bargain in the current scheme of things.
It occurred to me after doing Tauer Shadid, this and the Villoresi Sandalo that I am really not wearing these types of perfumes much right now (so, why did you buy the samples, you wonder…).
Yes, Lutens Arabie will still be prominent in autumn (once it’s colder)/winter rotation but I am much more focused on classics and big white florals at the moment. In between samples, I’m doing a load of Divine, Eshal or Shalimar.
What about you? What are your in-between choices for this autumn?

I bought a travel spray of Apricot Privee when it was on sale and really enjoyed it. I went back to get a bottle but long gone, I regret not having in it my considerable collection. The apricot note was fresh and juicy without being the sugary sweet of many fruit scents.
That post-equinox shift into cooler mornings is exactly when LDDM-adjacent resins start making sense again—Au Coeur’s cumin/barnyard whisper is the kind of detail that disappears from memory if you only spray once at a counter. Curious whether anyone here wears it as a full-day autumn signature or more as an evening layer over something cleaner.

That barnyard aspect is such a great surprise — and not so pony as to make Coeur difficult.
Hm, just read the comments — maybe because I lived for so long in an older part of the DC metro area I was picturing some kind of a row-house situation. I’d love to wind up eventually in something like that again, they feel very comforting to me. Twice in my life I’ve lived in the “end unit” of a row so I had the much-coveted windows on three sides instead of two 😀 I’m experimenting with a bunch of scents right now and reminding myself I do NOT need to buy anything.
I wouldn’t have minded a detached cottage but small ones are hard to find here, way more expensive and frequently need a lot of work to make the interior reasonably modern. I have never lived in an end of terrace.
I also thought you had a stand alone home! Love the choice of color and I love all the detailing on the front.
I think my Ormonde Jayne Woman would pair well with our current rainy days.

Def attached. Terrace of four workers cottages across the road from a farm (no longer working). I wouldn’t do thatch. A lot of maintenance.

I was under the same impression as Musette. I was picturing a white cottage, stand alone, with a kind of arborish, antique rose covered gate and a garden to match. Been watching too much Acorn/PBS, too! That is a beautiful blue. Hope it inspires your neighbors to pull up their socks and get some color going on either side of you.
Ah, not all older housing here is quaint thatched cottages. There’s a lot of terraced stuff dating back quite far.
As to my neighbours, we shall see. The people on one side, maybe; the woman on the other I doubt it. But, maybe I’m wrong.
I really enjoy Bulgari Parfumee au The Rouge as an early fall scent. It’s got rooibos tea, fig, walnut, orange, bergamot, pink pepper, resin, and musk notes. On me it’s a transparent veil of warm tea scent. Another fig scent I love at this time of year: L’Artisan Premier Figuier Extreme.
I love the color of your house front. Very cheerful and fun. Our weather is also cooler and rainy now.
I have yet to find a tea fragrance that really gets me going. Would like a really dark, black tea one.
Fig seems great for this transitional time. We’re not rainy yet. Hoping rainy season holds off till November.
We are having the weirdest autumn ever. It’s starting to get chilly at night, which I love, but it’s still over 80f during the day. We are also getting the beginning of a new hurricane which will bring humidity and possibly rain, as well as coastal flooding. This is the third one since summer (climate change? Never heard of it) and it’s supposed to be a bad El Niño year. So it’s light and airy in the day and dark and comforting at night. Scent wise, I mean.
Yup, El Niño effect.
That’s a lot of storms already.
WOW! “Divine, Eshal or Shalimar” are three of my faves Cinnamon! Smelling super fine.
We have had spring, summer, autumn, winter and nuclear winter here in Sydney this last week. Sometimes all in one day. It’s made perfume choosing a crap shoot. LOVE IT!
