Esperanza the Perfume Fairy Godmother
Hey, it is time again for the Perfume Sample Fairy Godmother post for July.
So here’s how Fairy Godmother works – this post will be open for the entire month of July 2013. I’ll start a new one at the beginning of Aguust.
For those of you new or that need a reminder of how this works – in comments you can list one thing that you are yearning for and can’t seem to get – a perfume sample is the easiest wish to grant for me. Or you can wish for a full bottle, decant, vintage perfume or discontinued perfume you can’t find. If someone has it and can help you out, they can reply to you in comments and then you can arrange to go offline through e-mail to work things out. Please don’t post e-mails in comments unless you spoof them somehow, like this – patty at perfumeposse dawtcawm (spelling the dotcom at the end that way prevents robots from finding it as easily). Caveat Emptor and all that, don’t send people money, check out their references on MUA or Basenotes or the Facebook groups before you send something in a swap, if you wind up doing a swap. We have some amazing Fairy Godmothers that show up every month, granting wishes right and left. If you’ve be a recipient of some kindness, do give back when you can. I know people that have gotten wishes granted, and every month they comb through the posts trying to find one or two people they can help out, and it just makes my heart happy.
If it’s a gift, send away. I should note that it’s more likely that a Fairy Godmother will happen along if you are a fairly regular commenter on The Posse and people recognize your name.
I’ll also play Perfume Posse Fairy Godmother and go through the list every month and grant some perfume sample wishes. I’ll pick from ones that nobody has been able to help with – I’ll spin my random.org wheel – and send them The Precious.

Thanks a bunch! The Guerlain is wonderful. I thought I would hate the Bobbi Brown, but it’s a really good suntan lotion smell. The Mimosa is a simple, well made fragrance, very nice. As a ginger freak, the Ginger Essence is right up my alley, lol. My granddaughter Jenna begged me for the Delicious, she loves it. All in all, it was a big hit, and I thank you,

Sold at Neiman Marcus late 1970’s, early 1980’s from Ebullience perfumes, small company, two nice guys outside of Philly. Had a great dusting powder with a giant ostrich puff. They also had a men’s scent named Hot Chocolate which came in a tin like Hershey’s powder.

I still have some Shari by Cara Nome – would that qualify as a stripper scent (a long shot, eh?) Here’s a bit about it lifted from my pinterest board: “Shari by Cara Nome, a discontinued fragrance that was first launched in 1927??? From The Vintage Perfume Vault: The Continuing Story of Cara Nome Perfume – about the only information I could find on the vintage fragrance…. but the scent is really nice – a spicy Oriental Vanilla as close as I can guess. Sort of reminiscent of Blue Waltz but lighter, more powdery.”

Mary P, this was an eye opener! I honestly believe the Cara Shari was what my Grandmother wore for years. This stuff is amazing! I must have smelled a sample earlier in my journey, but then I called it a no. Now it has become a yes and no.
It still seems to remind me of a soft leather glove, drying over a sweet wood fire. Then I resmell my arm and get a black tea from somewhere. So, this one gets saved for the first chilly day. Hooray for those little oddities you all send me, and Carolyn, this reminds me of how far I’ve fallen into the rabbit hole, lol.

I’ve never smelled it, but it has been recommended, and I have a hankering for tobaccos. Also, one of my delightful June Fairy Godmothers put me onto SSS.
I have a new budget rule that I don’t buy samples until I first sample everything available for free in tester bottles in NYC retail shops — in other words, never.
Perhaps a Fairy Godparent can provide the loophole that will let me try stuff that doesn’t retail in these parts?
