December Perfume Sample Fairy Godmother

Esperanza the Perfume Fairy Godmother

Hey, it is time again for the Perfume Sample Fairy Godmother for December (little early, but good to start those Christmas wishes!).     So here’s how Fairy Godmother works – this post will be open for the entire month of December 2013.   I’ll start a new one at the beginning of January.   For those of you new or that need a reminder of how this works – in comments you can list one or two things that you are yearning for and can’t seem to get –  a perfume sample is the easiest wish to grant for me.  Or you can wish for a full bottle, decant, vintage perfume or discontinued perfume you can’t find.  If someone has it and can help you out, they can reply to you in comments and then you can arrange to go offline through e-mail to work things out.

Please don’t post e-mails in comments unless you spoof them somehow, like this – patty at perfumeposse dawtcawm (spelling the dotcom at the end that way prevents robots from finding it as easily). Caveat Emptor and all that, don’t send people money, check out their references on MUA or Basenotes or the Facebook groups before you send something in a swap, if you wind up doing a swap.  We have some amazing Fairy Godmothers that show up every month, granting wishes right and left. If you’ve been the recipient of some kindness, do give back when you can. I know people have gotten wishes granted, and every month they comb through the posts trying to find one or two people they can help out, and it just makes my heart happy. If it’s a gift, send away.  I should note that  it’s more likely that a Fairy Godmother will happen along if you are a fairly regular commenter on The Posse and people recognize your name. I’ll sometimes play Perfume Posse Fairy Godmother and go through the list and grant some perfume sample wishes. I’ll pick from ones that nobody has been able to help with – I’ll spin my random.org wheel  – and send them The Precious.  perfume sample magic wandSo what is it that your heart desires?  (pulling out wand from the back of the closet and blowing off an inch of dust)

  1. Dear Fairy Godmother, I don’t have anything particular in mind at the moment, but I am an academic studying the way people “author” and write about scent, so I wish for the weirdest or most interesting/out-there scents you might know of. Love, Professor Em, AKA friede at thegmails.

    • off the top of my head: Comme des Garcons Stephen Jones — metallic, mineraly floral; Nike de St Phalle with its pronounced mushroom note; Revolution by Lisa Kirk (tear gas and blood, anyone?) and, of course, the notorious Secretions Magnifique by Etat Libre D’Orange.

      • Good ones, Mariekel! And I’ll add the inky-metallic-odd M/Mink by Byredo (my very first scrubber!).

    • As the official weird person of the fairy business, I’ll be happy to pass on my notes and a few weird ones as well. See above for my misplaced email address.

      • Jan, I’d love it if you could share your notes. I have a feeling my tastes are a little towards the weird and wonderful side as well.

  2. Hi all, thanks so much to my super-generous perfume godmothers (and godfather—hi Lucas ? ) last month. This month, I’d love to try a newer release, if anyone has a smidge to spare (I’m putting out a scattershot call once again in the hopes that one sticks ? ): Tom Ford Oud Fleur or Tobacco Oud, Imaginary Authors Cape Heartache, MDCI Cuir Garamante, Puredistance Black, MdO Violet Fumee, Jovoy Rouge Assassin, or Tableau des Parfums Ingrid. Thanks so much yet again!!

    • Hi to my Nov. Fairy Godmother! I can help you with the smidge of MdO Violet Fumee. It’s just a 1/2 filled 1 ml. vial but it’s yours if you want.

  3. Dearest Fairy Godmother, Here is what I am obsessing over : Parfumerie Generale’s L’oiseau de Nuit ~ and here is my story: I am fairly new to this world of niche perfume, etc.and I had been planning on purchasing my very first full bottle of a niche fragrance as a Christmas gift for myself this year.I had been sampling tons of scents from all sorts of houses but sort of became a tiny bit obsessed with Parfumerie Generale after trying a few of Pierre’s creations and falling in love with almost all of them.I have been saving up towards a full bottle and finally chose ” L’oiseau de Nuit ” because it just felt “right” for me ( it is hard to explain, but I think people reading this might understand what I mean by finding a scent that just feels like it belongs on your skin… ) But, as things have turned out, I will need to scale back a little bit and instead of a full bottle I hope to be able to purchase either a partial bottle or a 20ml – 25ml decant of this scent at an affordable price. If anyone can help me or just point me in the right direction I would be very grateful and very happy 🙂 Wishing Everyone A Blessed Holiday Season <3 find me at longball2010 atlivedawtcom

  4. Happy Holidays to all you Fairy folks! Many thanks to all who have granted my wishes in the past also to those who have taken my rejects 🙂 This month I am all about the notes Tuberose and Musk! Mmmmm! I am looking to try Beyond Love By Killan (may be a good contender in my Battle of the Tuberose’s) and maybe a cozy Musk (I’m looking at you Le Labo Musc 25 or even Serge Lutens Clair de Musc). Give me a shout out at my gmail address using my username above. Even if it’s just to say hi!

  5. I have often read about Mandy Aftel’s perfumes, and enjoyed reading her book, but have never had the chance to sample any. I would be eternally grateful if the Godmothers could wave their wands my way!
    Happy wishing to all!

  6. Dear Esperanza and other wonderful perfume fairies!
I helped Heather last month and Heather helped me too. This month I would like to try Parfums de Nicolai Rose Oud & Amber Oud, or finally put my hands on a little bit of Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Velours.
I hope many wishes will come true in December!

  7. Dear Fairies,
I’ve read of Bal a Versailles’ skanky reputation, and I’m interested in seeing if it is as skanky as people say,
    ty

    • Hi Elia, I think I can help. It’s in a weird container, so I have to check on how to open it. Odd, eh?

  8. Hello Esperanza and all Fairies,
This month I am looking for a sample of BK Forbidden Games (had a tiny bit, loved it, can’t find it anywhere). I’d also love to try a sample of Hilde Soliani’s Bell’ Antonio. I’ll be looking out for those I can help out, too. (My email is debby msrd at comcast dawt nettttt – no spaces and misspelled dot and net on purpose, of course!)
    Thanks,
    springpansy

    • Hi Debby,

I can help you out with the Forbidden Games – emailing you now…

  9. Hello Faeries!
Was someone last month looking for niche iris? I ended up sending CBIHPs out instead, but I do have some small iris samples I’d love to go to a good home. Let me know if anyone is interested. Off the top of my head, stuff like The Different Company’s Bois d’Iris. I wish I could name the others, but I’m traveling at the moment.

    • I didn’t ask for Iris last month, but I’m certainly interested in trying ones I have not, like TDC Bois d’Iris. eliared a][ zoho do][ {om.

    • If you have a sample of Acqua di Parma’s Iris Nobile, I’d love to try it. I’m at patricialschneider AT yahoo DAWT com.

  10. Happy Holidays Everyone ! I have a 5 ml decant of SL Fille de Berlin that needs a good home . I also have 5 ml of SoOud Ouris that needs a good home . ( And a boxed mini of Donna Karan Woman . )
I would love a sample of Mona Violet Fumee , and am very curious about the new release from Floris Private Collection : Patchouli .

  11. I had no luck with my November wish, so I’ll try again. I’d love a sample of the legendary Ormonde Jayne Woman. If you can spare some, please email me at patricialschneider AT yahoo DAWT com. Thanks!

  12. Dear Fairies, I am still wishing for Rose Nacre du Desert but would be equally happy for some Rose Barbare, or Coco in extrait…

  13. Last month my request led to meeting a person in person, and trying both of my requests. That turned out pretty excellent, so I’ll try again…
I’m looking for a smoky/incense or leather vanilla scent. Curious about Vanille 44, or any others the people here can suggest. Have sniffed Atelier Vanille Insensee, and it’s not quite what I’m looking for…
As always am delighted to share some of my weird and vintage finds with others in exchange, too.
    Email through my gravatar…

  14. Dear Fairy Godmother,
I have a longshot for you. I’m looking for small samples of some Roja Doves- particularly the chypres. My Mom tried them in NYC recently and fell in love, and I’d like to give her the chance to retry them for Xmas. I’m willing to pay- but I am a financially strained student. I would be so grateful for any help.

      • Hi Carol, I was just going to write this one in as my request! Any chance you could spare another teensy bit, or swap for some Unspoken? I haven’t swapped in ages, but you can see my old tokens as Poodlegirl on MUA.
You can message me there, or at standing daht armsakimbo daht cohm. Thanks!

    • Connie, I can send you a sample of Unspoken, a lovely chypre. Contact me at standing dott armsakimbo dott comm.

  15. Greetings, Fairies!
This month I have another request for my Aroma Chemistry high school class: raw materials for tincture, infusion, enfleurage, or maybe even expression or distillation. Do you have some great spices? Resins? Flower petals you’re looking to unload? I can give you a tax-exempt letter, heartfelt gratitude, and some sample treats from my personal stash. 🙂

Thank you again to all those spectacular Fairies who have donated fragrances to our class from my October request. It’s going great!
    ~lm

    • Hi again LeatherM 🙂 I have resins – frankincense, myrrh, copal, amber. I think I have some rose petals, lavender and jasmine flowers somewhere in my tea stuff bins – will dig em out if they interest you.

      • SallyM, that all sounds wonderful! I’ve just emailed you. Thank you so much.

  17. This month I’d love to try Ambra di Luna by Monegal. And Vierge de Fer by Serge Lutens if possible.

I also wanted to ask, is there going to be a swapmania this year?

  18. I am in the mood for plum scents. I seem to remember La PrairieLife Threads Platinum, Natori and Kate Walsh Boyfriend as having a nice plum note but I can’t find any testers for them anymore. I would be grateful for any of these or any other plum scent

  19. Does anyone by chance have any original Fendi?? I adored it when it came out, but my husband (boyfriend at the time) couldn’t stand it, so I quit wearing it. I don’t even remember what it smelled like and for some reason I thought about it last night.

Happy Thanksgiving and a very joyous Chanukah to those celebrating these awesome holidays!

    • I have a cherished bottle of original Fendi in EDT, Tammy! I could send you a sample from it. Email me at elisagabbert at gmail if you see this.

  20. My name shows I am in the US but I am actually in Canada… if anyone in Canada has a bit of SL Arabie they can spare, please email me at cazaubon at me dawt com. Thanks! I have lots to swap for it.

  25. Hi Fairy Godmothers, On the prowl for sweeter scents again. Does anyone have a bit of Tom Ford Velvet Gardenia?

  26. Oh sorry, I was trying to spoof the email. My bad. It’s the standard suffix; I just added the extra m like I did on “dott.” I’ll have to come up with a better way!

  27. Would love to try Givenchy Ange ou Demon, anyone have a small sample? please write to edwardnr17 at gmail dawt com

  28. I have a goodie box to give away–more than 2dozen samples to a U S respondent

        • Thank you so very much 🙂 Shall I message you my information?? Happiest Holiday Wishes for you and yours <3

        • Oh no. I am only one day too late? I’m gonna die. Oh well. It’s okay. You have made a commitment to the first responders and I understand. Maybe some good fortune will find me yet some time soon. 😉 You are generous. Very kind of you to offer what you have. At this point I have nothing to offer in return for a share but am trying to get there.

  29. Hey Tammy! I’ve got a couple of minis of Fendi and I can spare one for you shoot me an email at bookwyrmsmith at live dawt cahm.

  30. I’m in a gardenia mood. I’d love to try a smidge of Aftelier’s Cuir de Gardenia or perhaps Isabey’s Gardenia? Or any other gardenia that my perfume buddies find intoxicating.

    • Hi Carolyn,
I don’t have the ones you’re after, but I can share a smidge of AbdesSalaam Attar Feromone Pour Femme. I apologize for the name. Despite that, I think it’s pretty intoxicating. 🙂

      • Oops, it might not even be a gardenia scent. I’m not good at distinguishing white flowers. Still, I think it’s worth a sniff.

        • Leathermountain, Attars are ALWAYS worth sniffing. Thanks so much for the offer!!! Will e-mail you.

Carol, I have some Fille de Berlin so save that for someone else. Happy to send you the Fille En Aiguilles. bogsc at aol dawt com.

      • Hey Carol/Tracy W. Think this reply was meant for Tracy’s post. Didn’t want it to go unnoticed.

  32. Dear Fairy Godmother,

I am so glad I found you! I been looking for you and others like you. Searching for ways to make a great amber fragrance, I happened upon your site and liked your page on Facebook. I am somewhat new to the fragrance world. About 12 years ago I donated all my fragrances to Goodwill and stopped wearing scent completely after a life-altering event. None were top dollar but I had always loved smelling pretty, mysterious, and unusually interesting at the same time. Recently, after a local department store frag sniffing day (my first in over a decade) I left disappointed after smelling the trendy smell-one-smell-all designer and celeb fruit punch, cotton candy, alcohol frags. The far out notion to order essential oils and make my own the old way being non-stingy with the concentration was born. After spending a small mint on the oils and researching, I realized I owned nothing much of decent fragrance to compare and detect notes with.

I am a big lover of the rather uncommon scents and favor deep, amber, woodsy, musky, fruity frags for winter. I am not the heady, sweet flower or conservative office type woman. In my teens-30’s I loved Coty Wild Musk, Vanilla Musk, Emeraude, Shalimar, Dana Tabu. (Yes, I confess to adoring that horrid, overly spicy, dirty but addictive scent I loathed but could not stop huffing in my Grandmother’s bathroom.) I still love all of those but am limited to whiffing the finer old scents due to my location and the two cents with lint in my purse. I live in a small town where I do not have access to them. So far, I love whatever Guerlain has made and would love to sample Mitsouko, Jicky or any of their fine scents. (just ordered a Samsara sampler from Ebay) I am also highly curious of Tom Ford’s Black Orchid which I cannot find here. From Fragrantica’s reviews, it seems a marvelous scent that may fit, though read of the unisex quality of it and am not too fond of uni frags. I recently discovered Avon Faraway and Extraordinary at a thrift shop. Those are both new to me and I am impressed. So… *sigh*, I am giving you an idea of what I like since I cannot personally sample the yummy ol’ biggies myself. I am also open to new scents with an old world, incense, amber, sandalwood base and citrus/light floral top and mid notes. Woodsy/musky/vanilla is always welcome and fitting for these cold, mid-western winters… and I am a southern woman who does not fit here in this little farm town. I’m probably killing the cows or curdling their milk, my dogs are wondering who I am and hating my new found lost love, my husband keeps waving his hand across his nose when I walk by, and I have no desire to leave a Bath and Body Works/Victoria’s Secret trail my nose is overly bored of. I don’t want to knock people out, but think I might die happy if I were to receive some mysterious, other worldly, complex, intriguing, odalisque-type frags. My Mother loves White Shoulders. Unlike me, she is pure. Sorta. It is soft, sweet, innocent, and I do not take after her.

Thank you Fairy Godmother for taking the time to read my lengthy post. Since I did not know exactly what to request, I felt the need to give you as much info as possible so hopefully I may receive a glorious blessing or two sometime soon. Thank you again, and have a beautiful, scrumptiously scented holiday season! (By the way, your blog on ambers also has me curious of Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre. Thank you for the great read and hope to see you soon! 🙂

    • I can send you some vintage Emeraude and Shalimar if you like.d a few newer things (don’t think zI have enough vials on hand to make up another box of 20 but I’ll send you at least a handful)

  33. Hi, all. I’m putting this on both the November and December fairy lists. Smelling and thanking are the great parts of fairying. So, I’ve sent this message:
I think this is the package you sent. If not, I have made a mess of my samples. Please let me know, argggghhhh!
The most unusual thing happened when I sprayed the Azagury (It’s not even added to the spreadsheet yet). Suddenly I was in a place I’d been before, probably before we returned to the US. I got the lovely ginger at the opening, and copying from Fragrantica “Himalayan jasmin, rose from Morocco, ylang and datura”. The only place I can think of is the Royal Botanical Gardens. It was almost spooky. I’ll be re smelling until it gets figured out.
First time for smelling the Helmut Lang. It is something! Not too much of anything, not too sweet to wear, I’m not getting the woody, but rich floral and musk.
CDG Energy C Lime? Taking it to Puerto Rico with me. It’s cheerful, really Limey and fun.
L’Artisan Safran Troublant is on my just ok list. Traverse du Bosphore is very wearable, but gets a little sweet on me.
Montale Crystal Flowers was a BIG ROSE, lol.
Thanks so much for the samples, the top two may become FBs.

If this was you who sent these, please let me know so I can thank you personally. jdeangeo at aol dot com.

  34. Hi and I am new at sampling perfumes. I have been trying out at dept stores until I found this blog with more interesting ways and more niche perfumes to try. I am waiting for samples I ordered online and am so excited to indulge and share with my 3 daughters and friends. Thank you for your posts full of insight. Someone mentioned a book that is a good read about perfumes?
    Blessings, Elsa

    • Hi Elsa:

Welcome! I think somebody posted above about a Mandy Aftel book – they might have been talking about Essence and Alchemy, which is a history of perfume. She also wrote an instructional book on creating your own perfumes, called Sense and Sensibilities, and co-wrote a cookbook titled Aroma.

  35. I would like to try a bit of Absolue Pour le Soir Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Can you do that Esperanza? =o|

  36. Thank you Fairy Godmothers for granting several wishes over the last couple of months! I’m still after a few unanswered wishes. If anyone has some Yuzu Rouge, MDCI La Belle Helene, or anything from Sarah Horowitz or Saffron James to share, that would be great! Thanks again and Happy Holidays to all!

  44. Hi all! I’ve been MIA for a few months, but I’m back and I sure missed you all!

This month I’d love a sample or decant of the vintage formulation of Caron Violette Precieuse.

I’ll post my contributions below. Happy Holidays!

  45. This month I can send out:
Cartier So Pretty (small decant, ~2 ml, I think)

  46. Dear fairy godmother, Eau d’Iparie by L’Occitane. I had a stash, and have only just found out that they have discontinued it. I have worn it for so long that it feels like part of my identity and I am utterly bereft that I can’t get it anymore. Alternatively any recommendations for scents that I may be able to go cold turkey with…

  47. I know I’m a little late to the party this month, but PFG, I would love to try any of the SSS’s Sonoma Naturals: Spiced Citrus Vetiver, Amber Incense, or Cocoa Sandalwood. I’m far from my decanting supplies right now, but I’ll be back next month with lots of offerings! Happy Holidays, everybody!

    • I’ve got a little bit of cocoa sandalwood I can send you. My yahoo address and screen name are the same

  48. Dear Fairy Godmother,
I’ve come to that point in life where I need a Real Woman’s perfume… I was looking around online for scents to check out at a department store, and the 2 which really caught my attention were Chanel Coco and Hermès 24 Faubourg, neither of which could be found. Samples would be coveted and cherished!

    • I guess I should add that I’m extremely curious about the vintage Chanel no 5– I was able to find the current no 5 quite easily, and when I tried it on for fun, my beau’s reaction was, “Chanel no 5! More like no 2!” :/ it definitely smelled like a powdered diaper on me, and I was so sad. So I went home and read around and found out about this mysterious Vintage One; the idea of reformulating a scent had never occurred to me before that moment, and I felt like I’d been gypped! Ya don’t gyp a girl out of her glamour!

    • Hi Matsukaze! I can help you out with some 24 Faubourg. My gmail is civetohell.

  49. If anyone has a smidge of Prada’s amber pour homme and pour homme intense I would love to try them out, not sure if I should… Please email me.
