December Perfume Sample Fairy Godmother

Esperanza the Perfume Fairy Godmother

Hey, it is time again for the Perfume Sample Fairy Godmother for December (little early, but good to start those Christmas wishes!).     So here’s how Fairy Godmother works – this post will be open for the entire month of December 2013.   I’ll start a new one at the beginning of January.   For those of you new or that need a reminder of how this works – in comments you can list one or two things that you are yearning for and can’t seem to get –  a perfume sample is the easiest wish to grant for me.  Or you can wish for a full bottle, decant, vintage perfume or discontinued perfume you can’t find.  If someone has it and can help you out, they can reply to you in comments and then you can arrange to go offline through e-mail to work things out.

Please don’t post e-mails in comments unless you spoof them somehow, like this – patty at perfumeposse dawtcawm (spelling the dotcom at the end that way prevents robots from finding it as easily). Caveat Emptor and all that, don’t send people money, check out their references on MUA or Basenotes or the Facebook groups before you send something in a swap, if you wind up doing a swap.  We have some amazing Fairy Godmothers that show up every month, granting wishes right and left. If you’ve been the recipient of some kindness, do give back when you can. I know people have gotten wishes granted, and every month they comb through the posts trying to find one or two people they can help out, and it just makes my heart happy. If it’s a gift, send away.  I should note that  it’s more likely that a Fairy Godmother will happen along if you are a fairly regular commenter on The Posse and people recognize your name. I’ll sometimes play Perfume Posse Fairy Godmother and go through the list and grant some perfume sample wishes. I’ll pick from ones that nobody has been able to help with – I’ll spin my random.org wheel  – and send them The Precious.  perfume sample magic wandSo what is it that your heart desires?  (pulling out wand from the back of the closet and blowing off an inch of dust)

  • Edward says:

If anyone has a smidge of Prada’s amber pour homme and pour homme intense I would love to try them out, not sure if I should… Please email me.

  • Matsukaze says:

    Dear Fairy Godmother,
I’ve come to that point in life where I need a Real Woman’s perfume… I was looking around online for scents to check out at a department store, and the 2 which really caught my attention were Chanel Coco and Hermès 24 Faubourg, neither of which could be found. Samples would be coveted and cherished!

    • Matsukaze says:

I guess I should add that I’m extremely curious about the vintage Chanel no 5– I was able to find the current no 5 quite easily, and when I tried it on for fun, my beau’s reaction was, “Chanel no 5! More like no 2!” :/ it definitely smelled like a powdered diaper on me, and I was so sad. So I went home and read around and found out about this mysterious Vintage One; the idea of reformulating a scent had never occurred to me before that moment, and I felt like I’d been gypped! Ya don’t gyp a girl out of her glamour!

    • Civet says:

Hi Matsukaze! I can help you out with some 24 Faubourg. My gmail is civetohell.

  • Civet says:

I know I’m a little late to the party this month, but PFG, I would love to try any of the SSS’s Sonoma Naturals: Spiced Citrus Vetiver, Amber Incense, or Cocoa Sandalwood. I’m far from my decanting supplies right now, but I’ll be back next month with lots of offerings! Happy Holidays, everybody!

    • thegoddessrena says:

I’ve got a little bit of cocoa sandalwood I can send you. My yahoo address and screen name are the same

  • Kim McBirnie says:

Dear fairy godmother, Eau d’Iparie by L’Occitane. I had a stash, and have only just found out that they have discontinued it. I have worn it for so long that it feels like part of my identity and I am utterly bereft that I can’t get it anymore. Alternatively any recommendations for scents that I may be able to go cold turkey with…

  • Emily S says:

This month I can send out:
Cartier So Pretty (small decant, ~2 ml, I think)
Tom Ford Violet Blonde (1.5 ml)
Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist (~1 ml)

  • Emily S says:

Hi all! I’ve been MIA for a few months, but I’m back and I sure missed you all!

This month I’d love a sample or decant of the vintage formulation of Caron Violette Precieuse.

I’ll post my contributions below. Happy Holidays!

I would like to try a bit of Absolue Pour le Soir Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Can you do that Esperanza? =o|

  • Elsa says:

Hi and I am new at sampling perfumes. I have been trying out at dept stores until I found this blog with more interesting ways and more niche perfumes to try. I am waiting for samples I ordered online and am so excited to indulge and share with my 3 daughters and friends. Thank you for your posts full of insight. Someone mentioned a book that is a good read about perfumes?
    Blessings, Elsa

    • Lisa D says:

      Hi Elsa:

Welcome! I think somebody posted above about a Mandy Aftel book – they might have been talking about Essence and Alchemy, which is a history of perfume. She also wrote an instructional book on creating your own perfumes, called Sense and Sensibilities, and co-wrote a cookbook titled Aroma.

  • Jan Last says:

Hi, all. I’m putting this on both the November and December fairy lists. Smelling and thanking are the great parts of fairying. So, I’ve sent this message:
I think this is the package you sent. If not, I have made a mess of my samples. Please let me know, argggghhhh!
The most unusual thing happened when I sprayed the Azagury (It’s not even added to the spreadsheet yet). Suddenly I was in a place I’d been before, probably before we returned to the US. I got the lovely ginger at the opening, and copying from Fragrantica “Himalayan jasmin, rose from Morocco, ylang and datura”. The only place I can think of is the Royal Botanical Gardens. It was almost spooky. I’ll be re smelling until it gets figured out.
First time for smelling the Helmut Lang. It is something! Not too much of anything, not too sweet to wear, I’m not getting the woody, but rich floral and musk.
CDG Energy C Lime? Taking it to Puerto Rico with me. It’s cheerful, really Limey and fun.
L’Artisan Safran Troublant is on my just ok list. Traverse du Bosphore is very wearable, but gets a little sweet on me.
Montale Crystal Flowers was a BIG ROSE, lol.
Thanks so much for the samples, the top two may become FBs.

If this was you who sent these, please let me know so I can thank you personally. jdeangeo at aol dot com.

  • Tracy W. says:

    Dear Fairy Godmother,

I am so glad I found you! I been looking for you and others like you. Searching for ways to make a great amber fragrance, I happened upon your site and liked your page on Facebook. I am somewhat new to the fragrance world. About 12 years ago I donated all my fragrances to Goodwill and stopped wearing scent completely after a life-altering event. None were top dollar but I had always loved smelling pretty, mysterious, and unusually interesting at the same time. Recently, after a local department store frag sniffing day (my first in over a decade) I left disappointed after smelling the trendy smell-one-smell-all designer and celeb fruit punch, cotton candy, alcohol frags. The far out notion to order essential oils and make my own the old way being non-stingy with the concentration was born. After spending a small mint on the oils and researching, I realized I owned nothing much of decent fragrance to compare and detect notes with.

I am a big lover of the rather uncommon scents and favor deep, amber, woodsy, musky, fruity frags for winter. I am not the heady, sweet flower or conservative office type woman. In my teens-30’s I loved Coty Wild Musk, Vanilla Musk, Emeraude, Shalimar, Dana Tabu. (Yes, I confess to adoring that horrid, overly spicy, dirty but addictive scent I loathed but could not stop huffing in my Grandmother’s bathroom.) I still love all of those but am limited to whiffing the finer old scents due to my location and the two cents with lint in my purse. I live in a small town where I do not have access to them. So far, I love whatever Guerlain has made and would love to sample Mitsouko, Jicky or any of their fine scents. (just ordered a Samsara sampler from Ebay) I am also highly curious of Tom Ford’s Black Orchid which I cannot find here. From Fragrantica’s reviews, it seems a marvelous scent that may fit, though read of the unisex quality of it and am not too fond of uni frags. I recently discovered Avon Faraway and Extraordinary at a thrift shop. Those are both new to me and I am impressed. So… *sigh*, I am giving you an idea of what I like since I cannot personally sample the yummy ol’ biggies myself. I am also open to new scents with an old world, incense, amber, sandalwood base and citrus/light floral top and mid notes. Woodsy/musky/vanilla is always welcome and fitting for these cold, mid-western winters… and I am a southern woman who does not fit here in this little farm town. I’m probably killing the cows or curdling their milk, my dogs are wondering who I am and hating my new found lost love, my husband keeps waving his hand across his nose when I walk by, and I have no desire to leave a Bath and Body Works/Victoria’s Secret trail my nose is overly bored of. I don’t want to knock people out, but think I might die happy if I were to receive some mysterious, other worldly, complex, intriguing, odalisque-type frags. My Mother loves White Shoulders. Unlike me, she is pure. Sorta. It is soft, sweet, innocent, and I do not take after her.

Thank you Fairy Godmother for taking the time to read my lengthy post. Since I did not know exactly what to request, I felt the need to give you as much info as possible so hopefully I may receive a glorious blessing or two sometime soon. Thank you again, and have a beautiful, scrumptiously scented holiday season! (By the way, your blog on ambers also has me curious of Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Ambre. Thank you for the great read and hope to see you soon! 🙂

      Hi Carolyn,
I don’t have the ones you’re after, but I can share a smidge of AbdesSalaam Attar Feromone Pour Femme. I apologize for the name. Despite that, I think it’s pretty intoxicating. 🙂

      • leathermountain says:

Oops, it might not even be a gardenia scent. I’m not good at distinguishing white flowers. Still, I think it’s worth a sniff.

Dearest Fairy Godmother, Here is what I am obsessing over : Parfumerie Generale’s L’oiseau de Nuit ~ and here is my story: I am fairly new to this world of niche perfume, etc.and I had been planning on purchasing my very first full bottle of a niche fragrance as a Christmas gift for myself this year.I had been sampling tons of scents from all sorts of houses but sort of became a tiny bit obsessed with Parfumerie Generale after trying a few of Pierre’s creations and falling in love with almost all of them.I have been saving up towards a full bottle and finally chose ” L’oiseau de Nuit ” because it just felt “right” for me ( it is hard to explain, but I think people reading this might understand what I mean by finding a scent that just feels like it belongs on your skin… ) But, as things have turned out, I will need to scale back a little bit and instead of a full bottle I hope to be able to purchase either a partial bottle or a 20ml – 25ml decant of this scent at an affordable price. If anyone can help me or just point me in the right direction I would be very grateful and very happy 🙂 Wishing Everyone A Blessed Holiday Season <3 find me at longball2010 atlivedawtcom
